History of the city of Gelendzhik: from Torik to a modern resort

Gelendzhik is a city where all dreams will certainly come true! This is exactly how residents imagine their seaside, cozy, resort town. When choosing a place for your next summer vacation, you should definitely pay attention to this place, worthy in all respects, comfortably hidden in a bay on the Black Sea coast. It’s better to start getting acquainted with Gelendzhik with the history of the appearance of the first settlement on the site of the modern city. This way you can learn not only historical and very interesting facts, but also imagine future travel routes to tourist places. And in general, have an idea about the city itself, its inhabitants and the place in which Gelendzhik is located. So, on the shores of the Black Sea in the hospitable Krasnodar region there is the rapidly developing resort of Gelendzhik. The city itself is located on the shore of Gelendzhik Bay, starting at Cape Tonky and ending at Cape Tolstoy. There is a strong opinion that there is a very precise distance of one nautical mile between the two capes. This fact has long become a landmark of the townspeople, about which they proudly tell visitors to the city.

History of Gelendzhik

The place where the resort now stands has ancient roots. This is evidenced by the presence of historical monuments around the city of dolmens dating back to the 3rd century BC. Further, the convenient and quiet bay has been occupied by many nationalities for centuries. The ancient Greeks settled here, and a little later the Romans. Then the bay became a Byzantine harbor, which later became part of Khazaria. After the defeat of the Khazar Khaganate, Gelendzhik Bay became part of Kievan Rus. Since the 11th century, this part of the coast again passes into Byzantium. Gelendzhik was even part of the Ottoman Empire. It was then that the name of the city appeared, which has survived to this day. In 1829, the bay became part of the Russian Empire. And then the small fortress grew into a small village, which began to grow continuously. In 1900, the first sanatorium was opened in Gelendzhik. And in 1907, Gelendzhik received resort status. And only in 1915 the settlement began to be proudly called a city. By the way, the name of the city has several meanings. Which of them is true is unlikely to be known. Translated from Turkic “Gelendzhik” means “white bride”, from Turkish “white poplar”. Here the Turks traded slaves, which is why the name is so unusual. However, scientists still believe that “Gelendzhik” is a derivative of the Adyghe word meaning “small bay”. This is such a rich and interesting history of a small resort town. This will allow lovers of history and interesting tourist routes to have a meaningful vacation and get an unforgettable experience from their vacation.

Archaeological find

Proof of the site of primitive people was the discovery of archaeologist V. E. Shchelinsky. In the mid-60s, in the vicinity of Gelendzhik, he discovered stone tools and household items. After a detailed study, it was found that the find dates back to the Acheulean era. Over time, a substantial collection of stone tools was collected. This made it possible to reveal their exact age: the found materials are approximately 120-200 thousand years old. Today, all ancient sights are located in the local history museum. Scientists have found that the primitive sites in Gelendzhi Bay date back to the Middle Paleolithic period. They are considered the northernmost historical monument of the Acheulian period in the Caucasus region.

Big Gelendzhik

Now it’s worth talking about the modern resort city. Gelendzhik itself is located in close proximity to the city of Novorossiysk, the distance between them is only 30 kilometers. From Krasnodar to Gelendzhik it is about 190 km. The town itself has a record that is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Gelendzhik has the longest embankment on the Black Sea coast. Its length is about 14 kilometers. The city authorities assure that this is not the limit, and every year the pride of the city improves, becomes prettier and grows. As for the concept of “Big Gelendzhik”, it is not only the city itself. Here the situation is the same as in Greater Sochi. Greater Gelendzhik includes nearby small villages and hamlets located on the coastline, as well as large urban-type settlements also located on the coastline, and several more villages that are located some distance from the sea. Big Gelendzhik starts from Inal Bay and ends at Cape Pinay, in Tsemes Bay. Large settlements of Greater Gelendzhik: Kabardinka, Arkhipo-Osipovka and Divnomorskoye. Smaller villages: Praskoveevka, Dzhanhot, Betta, Krinitsa. All these settlements are located directly on the coast and are loved by tourists and vacationers. Vinogradny, Pshada, Vozrozhdenie, Aderbievka, Tekos, Teshebs and Mikhailovsky Pass do not have direct access to the sea.

Ancient period and the foundation of Thorik

From the 7th to the 4th century BC. e. The Black Sea coast was colonized by the Greeks. For settlements, they chose places with fertile soil and convenient access to the sea. Greek settlers moved north and east. This period is known to contemporaries as the “Great Colonization of the Greeks.” At the beginning of the 6th century, Gelendzhik Bay in the Tonky Cape area was chosen for the founding of a city, later named Torik.

Historical facts about the existence of Thorik are mentioned in the book “Description of the Sea Adjacent to Inhabited Europe, Asia, Libya,” written by the ancient Greek navigator and geographer Skilakos of Cariande. He quite accurately described the location of the city: “... Behind the Sind harbor (modern Anapa) live the Kerkets (modern Novorossiysk). Behind them is the Hellenic city of Torik with its harbor and the Toret settlers.”

Brief mentions of Thorik are found in the writings of other ancient authors.

Gelendzhik infrastructure

Gelendzhik is a resort city and this speaks for itself. The main city-forming factor is the resort and tourist complex. Everything here works specifically for tourists. Almost the entire population of the city and nearby villages works in this infrastructure. And we must give credit to the Gelendzhi residents, they are doing it very well. The holiday season is the main income for more than half of the population. Therefore, local residents try and work for the benefit of their people and the city all season long, so that later they have something to live on in the winter. Waterpark Golden Bay

People who come to relax in the city of Gelendzhik should definitely visit the water park. For example, Golden Bay is the largest outdoor water park in Russia. This also speaks to the significance of such a facility for the resort of Gelendzhik. There are 44 slides and 67 descents. A specially trained lifeguard is on duty near each slide, instructing visitors before the descent. However, the rule of behavior on the slides is to be attentive and cheerful.

Climate in Gelendzhik

Perhaps the most positive factor for residents and guests of the city is the absence of industrial production in Gelendzhik. There are no plants or factories here that can cause damage to the unique climate. That’s why the mountain air here makes your head spin, and the sea freshness invigorates you. Gelendzhik, having such climatic conditions, is ideal for restoring health and relaxing after a busy life in big cities. If we talk about the climate of this area in more detail, it is worth noting that the weather conditions here are unusually mild. The subtropical climate, of course, brings surprises in the form of unexpected summer downpours. But such rains are usually short-lived and warm. And then the weather improves and the sun immediately appears. In general, summers in Gelendzhik are long and relatively dry, and winters are short and mild. As many as 250 sunny days a year, one can only dream of such weather. Gelendzhik Bay is not large, so the sea water warms up quite quickly in the spring and cools down somewhat longer in the fall. The bay reliably shelters the city from storms, and the mountains from the northern, cold winds. The abundance of green spaces turns the city almost into a cozy garden. All these factors make Gelendzhik simply an ideal holiday destination for adults and children.

Since Gelendzhik is a resort city, the tourism industry here is at its best and is still developing. A large number of entertainments for every taste are presented to the attention of tourists and vacationers. There are many places where you can go with the whole family (with children) or as a couple, or even alone (if the traveler likes to spend time alone). And now we can talk about choosing a possible type of vacation, as well as about the attractions and positive aspects of the resort. The first sanatorium appeared in Gelendzhik back in 1900. Since then, many of them have been built in the city. Sanatoriums, holiday homes and children's camps occupy the central coastal part of the city. The health resorts here are surrounded by green spaces, they have cozy parks and their own clean beach areas. For recovery, a large selection of sanatorium procedures is offered here, in addition to sunbathing and swimming in the sea: aerotherapy, mud wrapping (though the mud here is imported, they are delivered from the shores of the Sea of Azov, famous for its mud springs), grape therapy (this type includes many different procedures) , various types of massage, physical therapy and much more. There are also courses in health resorts to improve the health of little vacationers. In holiday homes you can not only relax well, but also have fun. Animators organize many fun holidays and exciting evening activities.

You can relax and have a great time in Gelendzhik on your own. Vacationers are offered a huge selection of hotels and guest houses, hotels and town houses. If funds do not allow you to stay in an expensive hotel, then you can take advantage of numerous offers of housing in the private sector. Here you can find accommodation to suit every taste, everything will depend on your pocket size and personal wishes. You can rent a room or an entire apartment on a turnkey basis in any area of the city. Accommodation prices will fluctuate, as elsewhere, depending on the proximity to the beach: the closer, the more expensive, the further, the cheaper. Although there is an area in the city where even the proximity of the sea may not greatly affect the price. The area located in the immediate vicinity of the airport is considered cheaper, although otherwise it is in no way inferior to the rest of the city. Rather, on the contrary, it is much quieter and calmer here, because there are fewer nightclubs and cafes open until the morning. A short excursion about housing in the city was carried out. In conclusion, we can only say that both ordinary people and wealthy people can live here comfortably. The city has apartments to suit every taste, even the most demanding. Well, now it’s worth talking about the entertainment offered by the city to the attention of vacationers.

Byzantine era

In the 6th century, Crimea and the eastern coast of the Black Sea fell under the influence of the Byzantine Empire. The Romans were firmly entrenched on the trade sea route and held a monopoly in their hands. Byzantine fortresses were built along the entire coast. A city called Eptala then flourished in Gelendzhik Bay. Its golden age lasted until the arrival of the Tatar army. At the beginning of the 13th century, Genghis Khan's horde destroyed many prosperous cities of the Black Sea region, including Eptala.

For two centuries, Genoese colonies dominated the lands of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. Italian merchants quickly raised Gelendzhik Bay from the ruins and gave the new settlement the name Mavrolaco. They founded a trading post there. In a short period of time, Mavrolako became the most visited port on the Circassian coast. It was a key link on the trade route from Feodosia to China. The supremacy of the Italians was interrupted by the Turks.

Entertainment in Gelendzhik and city attractions

It’s probably worth starting right away with the city’s beaches. Everything here is the same as everywhere else. The coastline of the resort consists of beaches: urban, public and private. Along their entire length there are berths where pleasure and entertainment vessels moor. On each of which you can take a walk into the open sea or go fishing. Tourists are also offered walks along the sea with visits to interesting places on the coast. Larger ships offer a sea voyage with a whole entertainment program that will be interesting for both children and adults. On the shore, you can rent a catamaran or take a breeze on a banana boat or tablet. And if you wish, learn how to operate a jet ski. And extreme sports fans will certainly enjoy flying over the expanses of water on a parachute. Another extreme entertainment associated with the depths of the sea is diving. In Gelendzhik you can try yourself as an underwater diver. Of course, there are no such beautiful underwater landscapes here as, for example, in the Red Sea, but scuba diving has its own charms. You can dive on your own (if you have experience in this matter) or with an experienced instructor. If you wish, you can even undergo training and receive a diver certificate.

There are many inflatable slides on the beach for little holidaymakers. To the delight of kids, here you can pet a pony or ride a camel, and also take a beautiful photo as a souvenir with exotic animals. There are many retail outlets on the beach offering cold drinks, ice cream or other delicacies. There are also professional photographers who offer to create a whole portfolio of beautiful photos, for example, against the backdrop of the surf.

Cable car

The cable car to the Markotkh ridge (Markotkh - the name of the ridge comes from the word “marko” - blackberry and “tkhy” - ridge.) operates almost around the clock. One ascent and descent costs about 350 rubles, but what views open up from above. It's worth a look. At this height, approximately 500 meters, you can clearly see how the city goes around the bay. Far below, the Black Sea spreads out in a light haze. On the Markotkhsky ridge there is an inscription Gelendzhik one hundred meters long (longer than the Hollywood inscription). Several years ago it was created by local residents.

Entertainment in the city

There is also plenty of entertainment in the city. If you no longer want to go to the beach or want to get new sensations and knowledge, then you can go on a city tour and visit interesting places along the way. And there are many of them in the city.

Water parks

For children and adults, a visit to the water park will be an incredible adventure. By the way, in Gelendzhik there is the largest water park in Russia called “Golden Bay”. On its territory there are slides for different tastes, different heights and configurations. There are also many cafes, bars and dance floors, and there is also a water park with a hotel. Everyone would want to relax in such a place. There are two more slightly smaller water parks in the city, they are called “Behemoth” and “Dolphin”. From visiting them you will also be left with a sea of positive emotions. In each of the water parks you can take a whole series of beautiful photos as a souvenir.

Safari Park

This truly wonderful building will delight all its visitors, regardless of age. There are many interesting objects located on the territory of the safari park. This is essentially a rehabilitation center for animals. Therefore, of course, there is a zoo filled with rare species of animals: lions, tigers, bears and many other representatives of the animal world of our planet. In addition to the zoo, there is a terrarium, a butterfly exhibition, a maritime museum and many other interesting things on the territory. There is also a cable car in the safari park. The cable car here is the longest in the city. The price of the entrance ticket also includes a funicular ride up to the mountains. In the park you are allowed to take photos, which will later add to your collection of photo reports about your vacation on the Black Sea coast.

Tourist complex "Olympus"

This place is specially built just for entertainment and fun. On the territory of "Olympus" there are many entertainment facilities, bars, restaurants and cozy cafes. It also has its own cable car and a modern concert hall. “Olympus” was created to make vacationers comfortable and interesting.

Amusement park

There are two amusement parks in Gelendzhik. The first and larger of the two is located next to the embankment. The park has many attractions that kids and adults will enjoy riding. Bright and beautiful photos will be taken in the park among many remarkable places. Another park is located on the territory of the Sunny Beach sanatorium. The park is called “Sunny Island”. It will be interesting to take a walk with the kids here and go on rides. You can also sit in a cafe and try delicious ice cream.

Dolphinarium

There is also a dolphinarium in Gelendzhik, which you can visit any day. Performances are held here 4 times daily. Dolphins, fur seals, sea lions and walruses take part in interesting performances. In addition to the city dolphinarium, there are two more dolphinariums in the greater Gelendzhik area. But the city one is the largest of the three and the most popular. No less interesting will be a tour of the “Underwater World” exhibition. Here you can walk on your own, or you can enlist the help of a guide. You can take photos or video in the pavilion for free. By the way, you can see here not only representatives of the underwater world, but also living tropical butterflies.

Resort museums

For those who like to learn new things, there is something to see in Gelendzhik. The city has museums and an exhibition gallery. The local history museum is located almost on the seashore. Its exhibition includes exhibits from different times and nationalities that previously lived on the territory of Gelendzhik Bay. Antiquities are located here. There is also an exhibition telling about the local flora and fauna, both modern and ancient. The most complete and no less interesting exhibition will tell museum visitors about “before” and “after” revolutionary times, about the battles that were fought here during the Great Patriotic War. To make the excursion more interesting, you can use the services of a guide. History buffs can take memorable photos and videos here. The Gelendzhik exhibition hall does not have a permanent exhibition, so new exhibits appear here every 2 months. Here you can see exhibitions of paintings by local artists and sculptors. The exhibited works can be from eminent authors, as well as young, promising masters. Another, or rather two, interesting places that city guests can visit are wax museums. The first collection showcases famous personalities, popular film heroes and cartoon characters. Another exhibition is more reminiscent of a cabinet of curiosities. The exhibition is dedicated to various deformities of the human body. The figures are completely scary and not entirely pleasant, so it is better to come to this museum only for adults.

Horse rides

There is also this type of entertainment. Horseback riding can be a real exotic experience, especially for true city dwellers. You can ride horses along walking trails or take a long and exciting walk. Climb the mountains and go through hard-to-reach places. See the virgin nature of the Caucasus Mountains and the local landmark - dolmens. Along the various horse routes you may come across fast mountain rivers with cold and clear water, sparkling waterfalls and deposits of blue clay. If you have no riding experience, you don’t have to be afraid. Experienced instructors will provide horse riding training and select the most convenient, but no less interesting route for a beginner. No less popular among tourists today are trips to the mountains on ATVs or jeeps. This entertainment is more exciting and dynamic. However, apart from adrenaline and a few interesting places, you won’t be able to get anything else from this type of excursion. A horseback ride can take travelers much further than a car route. Although, to each his own, all types of recreation have their fans. This is just a small list of interesting places and entertainment that can be found in the city itself and on the territory of Greater Gelendzhik. Separately, I would like to note the beauty and unusualness of Mount Parus and the location where the series “Storm Gates” was filmed. Otherwise, you are unlikely to be able to see everything in one vacation.

Wines of Gelendzhik

The city has long been famous for its vineyards. The best grape varieties are grown on the fertile lands of the Gelendzhik region. That’s why there is also a winery here. This is the only industrial production located in this area, which does not spoil the ecological cleanliness of the city at all and brings good profits to the city treasury. Wine produces several varieties of alcoholic beverages of excellent quality from grapes grown here. To learn more about winemaking, you can take a tour of the plant. The guide will give you a full tour of the winemaking workshops, talk about the production processes, and teach you how to choose the right brand of wine for various dishes. But the main and most enjoyable moment of the entire tour of the plant will be the wine tasting. After which you can purchase the variety you like right here. You can buy good wine without visiting the factory. After all, in the city there is a branded store from a winery. There is also a full range of alcoholic products produced at the plant. There are a couple of other interesting events in the city that not only tourists are in a hurry to attend. One of such events is the international air exhibition “Gidroaviasalon”. This event takes place twice a year and attracts many guests, not only ordinary people, but also many famous personalities. This air show has become one of the main attractions of the city. Another event is not so large-scale and is more related to recreation than anything else. We are talking about the annual carnival that opens the holiday season and takes place in the city in May. The spectacle turns out to be bright and joyful; tourists take part in this fun event with pleasure. At the end of our story about this beautiful resort city, I would like to say a few words for those who nevertheless decided to spend their long-awaited vacation in Gelendzhik. The fact that the city is certainly beautiful, clean and cozy certainly became clear from all that was said above. In Gelendzhik there is something to see, where to go on excursions and where to have fun. As for housing, there is no shortage of it. Perhaps only during the peak season you will have to settle not so close to the sea and the beach. Prices here are about the same as on the entire coast. You will have to get to the city by bus, personal transport or by plane. Unfortunately or fortunately, there is no railway in Gelendzhik. The city is located in close proximity to the seaport of Novorossiysk, so there is regular bus service. The Greater Gelendzhik region is ecologically clean, therefore there is no railway here. But for those who want to come here by personal transport, the local roads will be a pleasant surprise. The roads of the city and surrounding area have recently undergone major repairs and have not yet fallen into disrepair (as often happens here). During the peak holiday season, the city experiences interruptions in water supply. But this does not mean that there is no water here for a long time. We are talking about drinking water. It is better to buy this in stores. As for the weather in this area of the Black Sea coast, it almost always pleases the local residents. The mountains protect the bay from winds from the mainland. The bay itself protects the shores from strong sea winds. Many vacationers are interested in the condition of the beaches, which are famous in Gelendzhik. There are many of them, and mostly they are all covered with sand. The exception is the beaches located along the edges of Gelendzhik Bay, where the surface is pebbly. The sand in the rest of the coastline was lifted from the sea floor. Such coverage on the city’s beaches is much preferable, because there are many vacationers with children. Sandy beaches are also good for health resorts and sanatoriums and children's camps. Separately, it is worth mentioning once again the city’s embankment. This is truly a magnificent creation. The local embankment is probably the most beautiful and well-appointed on the entire Black Sea coast! There is cleanliness everywhere, beautiful and well-groomed flower beds, cozy seating areas with benches, sculptures and fountains. Walking here in the evening is simply magical. The embankment is replete with small cafes and restaurants. By the way, since we are talking about the cafe, we can say a few words about the food. Everything is fine with this in the city. There are many catering outlets (canteens, cafes and small restaurants) in Gelendzhik. Prices vary depending on the prestige of the establishment. But simple lunches, breakfasts and dinners are quite affordable. Nearby settlements such as Kabardinka, Divnomorskoye and Arkhipo-Osipovka are no less good than Gelendzhik itself. It also has its own attractions. Each of the villages has its own highlight. The infrastructure in large settlements is well developed, as is the bus service between them. During the season, these places are crowded and noisy, just like in Gelendzhik itself. In smaller villages such as Praskoveevka, Krinitsa, Betta and Dzhanhot, everything is much more modest. It is not so noisy here and there are many fewer places of entertainment. But there are quiet and clean beaches, beautiful scenery and a calm atmosphere. Relaxing in such places is a real pleasure. True, not everyone likes to spend their holidays this way. Therefore, we can advise families with small children or people looking for silence, not crowdedness and privacy to stay here. Of course, this article does not list all the sights and interesting places in Gelendzhik. However, it is certainly possible to get an approximate picture of the resort city of Gelendzhik. Since people who lived here in past centuries appreciated all the charm of this wonderful place on the Black Sea shore, while conquering the bay from each other, then a modern person simply needs to spend a vacation in Gelendzhik at least once. Surely, once you come here, you will definitely want to come back again...

Mysterious ancient dolmens

The tribes that lived during the Bronze Age left behind burial structures. These are huge slabs made of large stones in the form of a table. They were found in the 2nd half of the 19th century and called dolmens. People of that time, using stone tools, were able to create stunning tombs to preserve the peace of their ancestors.

The use and construction of dolmens continued until the 7th-8th centuries BC. e. The reasons for the cessation of their operation and construction are not clear.

Today there are about a hundred such attractions in the Gelendzhik area. For tourists, 2 dolmens in the village of Aderbievka, located in the foothills of the Markhot ridge, are more attractive:

  • tiled (height 2 m) – made of stone blocks and directed by the portal to the southeast;
  • block with ornaments on the walls (height 1.7 m) - a structure made of L-shaped blocks with an open space under the roof, its walls are decorated with inset ornaments, the portal is oriented to the south.

Fact 3. The most famous cat

An interesting fact from Gelendzhik: on the embankment there is a bronze monument to one of the most frequently mentioned characters in Pushkin’s poem “Ruslan and Lyudmila” - the Scientist Cat. There are ten such sculptures in Russia, but the Gelendzhik cat is the most famous.

The monument was erected in 2008. The literary character is depicted quite funny: in appearance he is similar to a wise, gray-haired professor in a robe and glasses. The cat holds a book in his right paw, and his left one is raised up, showing the gesture of a lecturer demanding silence in the audience.

A very interesting tradition has already developed among the city’s schoolchildren and students: before each difficult exam, they rub a cat for good luck, hoping for its help at a crucial moment. From frequent touches over several years, the cat has already been polished to a shine, but there is still more to come!

  • Entertainment in Gelendzhik for the whole family

Fact 4. Similar to Hollywood

Gelendzhik is far from being the cinematic capital of either the world or Russia, but it is in this city that there is a unique monument, the equivalent of which can only be found in Hollywood, the “worldwide empire of dreams.”

On one of the hills of the city, Mount Markhot, there is an inscription “Gelendzhik” - one of the largest in the world, it can be seen even from space. The height of the letters is 22 m, and the total length of the inscription is about 100 m.

An interesting fact about Gelendzhik: the width of the letter “Zh” is 9 m! The inscription is installed at an altitude of 600 m above sea level, and it is difficult not to notice it from anywhere in the city. By the way, all the consumables for making the monument were not additionally brought to the mountain; they were mined on site without the use of special equipment.

Jeeping

Extreme vacation in Gelendzhik is traditional Jeeping. However, you will not encounter a single familiar jeep, in the usual sense of the word. But the UAZ will be a faithful iron horse.

Walking in UAZ:

  • Extreme;
  • Excursion.

Extreme ones are designed for young people - these are puddles, the UAZ skids, but with all this it is safe, there are no cliffs.

Excursion trips are designed for families with children and the elderly. In UAZ cars you can get to the ancient dolmens, which, as they say, heal the soul. Here you can improve your physical health. More recently, Chinese dates began to be grown in Gelendzhik, which contain twice as much vitamin C as citrus fruits.

Travel plan

A plan drawn up before your trip will help you manage your vacation time wisely:

  1. If you come for one day, then concentrate your attention on exploring the embankment, where you will find most of the city's attractions.
  2. With a two-day stay, you will have time to visit all the significant places of Gelendzhik: one day will be spent exploring the sights of the embankment, the second - visiting museums, water parks, and churches.
  3. If you have three days left, you can combine a sightseeing tour with a beach holiday.
  4. If you come for 5–7 days, you will have time not only to get to know Gelendzhik and swim in the sea, but also to explore the outskirts of the city: the village of Mikhailovskoye, where the landscape park and the Natasha spring are located; the valley of the Zhane River, where there are waterfalls and mysterious dolmens.

Fact 8. Pine under protection

Gelendzhik is a uniquely beautiful evergreen city. According to local residents, the air there is so clean that you want to breathe it in again and again! The reason for such an amazing atmosphere is the Pitsunda pine forest, located near the city and under the protection of UNESCO.

These trees have a bizarre appearance: a spreading, unusually shaped crown with very long needles, reaching a length of 18 cm. The pine is affectionately called “Chernomorochka” for its unique growing region.

It differs from its relatives in that it releases six times more phytoncides into the environment. The combination of pine needles and refreshing sea air is very useful for people with breathing problems, and therefore the resort is visited annually by thousands of people who want to receive treatment. And for children this is simply a unique source of health.

Tips for tourists

By following some tips when planning your trip, you can save money and also avoid many troubles:

  • buy train and plane tickets in advance. For example, if you are going on vacation in the summer, you can purchase air tickets in the winter. This way the flight will cost much less;
  • Gelendzhik is a city with mountainous terrain, many streets are located at an angle. Therefore, the further from the sea you live, the harder it will be to get to the beach. Choose housing on Shevchenko, Ostrovsky, Tchaikovsky, Krasnogvardeyskaya streets, located near the sea, as well as close to the main city attractions;
  • When vacationing in the summer months, do not overexpose yourself to the sun for long periods of time. The best time to be on the beach is before noon and also after 16.00. Protect your skin from ultraviolet radiation with special cosmetics, use hats and sunglasses;
  • follow basic hygiene rules: wash vegetables and fruits before eating, drink bottled water, pay attention to the expiration date of purchased products, do not buy food outside during the hot months.
