How Almetyevsk found its name

We decided to talk about the name of our city. Of course, a resident of any town, village, village, city interprets the name of his settlement to suit himself. How residents and visitors call our city – there are many options here.

What do Almetyevsk residents call their native land? We conducted a survey in our VKontakte group “Almetyevsk News (Banner of Labor)”. Subscribers were offered five options for the name of the city. And one more thing: they could show off their creativity and share new ideas. The votes were distributed among 106 respondents. 47.2% answered that the city is called as it is - Almetyevsk, the name is abbreviated (Almet) - 31.1%, 2.8% voted for the oil city, but 5.7% voted for the long and proud name - oil capital. The overwhelming majority of the population speaks simply Tatar - Elmet. The remaining 1.9% did not share what they call the city, reserving the right to keep a secret.

Let's remember the history of the name itself. Let's fast forward from 2018, the year of drones and cars in outer space, to 1719. A time when agriculture was the main occupation of the population, and the appearance of the first submarine was something beyond belief.

The lands of the southeast of present-day Tatarstan were empty almost until the first third of the 18th century. Thanks to a survey of the authorities, in 1840 it became known that the village of Almet-Mullino (now the city of Almetyevsk) was founded in 1719, and in 1747 the presence of 23 households and 85 male souls was recorded in it.

There were two opinions about the founder of the settlement. The first mention of the village of Almetyevo dates back to 1735. Mulla Almet wrote a letter to Colonel I.N. Tatishchev, which ended with the words: “I, Almet-Mulla, wrote this letter to Zayu from the Almeteva village.” It turns out that the village was named after the mullah.

Nevertheless, the prevailing opinion among historians and local historians was that the village of Almetyevo on the Zai River was founded by Almukhamet, a native of the village of Almetyevo, Baylyarsky volost (now the village of Almetyevo, Sarmanovsky district). In this case, they usually referred to the text of the shedjere of Bikchura Khan, recorded by Riza Fakhreddinov.

However, arguments in favor of the founder of the village of Almetyevo were obtained during a complete census in 1746-1747. The documents indicate that in the village of Almetyevo there lived one person named Almet, the son of Seit. He owned a mill on the Ursala River, which spoke of his prosperity, and the very appeal of Mullah Almet to the command of the Sheshmin Landmilitsky regiment (above about this letter) indicates that already during this period he belonged to the ruling league.

It follows that the founder of the village of Almetyevo (Almet-Mullino) on the Zai River was a 23-year-old Tatar, Teptya by class, mullah Almet Seitov.

On August 10, 1930, Almetyevo became a regional center. In 1952, the village of Almetyevo was transformed into a workers' settlement.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR on November 3, 1953, the working village of Almetyevo was transformed into a city of republican subordination - Almetyevsk.
This day is considered the founding day of the city of Almetyevsk. Based on an article by R. Amirkhanov from the book “Almetyevsk”, published in 2003, prepared by Regina PANFILOVA

The Tatar Drama Theater was created in 1944. Performances in Russian and Tatar languages take place on its stage. The building itself has a solemn appearance and consists of two floors. A wide snow-white staircase leads to the central hall of visitors.

The theater lives an intense creative life. Thanks to its great potential and active touring activities, the theater is known far beyond the borders of Tatarstan. In the case when the performance is presented in the Tatar language, for the convenience of Russian-speaking spectators, there are headphones on each chair through which the translation is broadcast.

Coat of arms of Almetyevsk

The coat of arms of Almetyevsk is made in the form of a so-called French shield. In the upper part there is a red rectangle (side 1/6 of the height of the coat of arms), with the inscription of the name of the city. The letters are convex and golden in color.

In the central section of the emblem’s plane, against a blue background, an oil rig with a drill bit is depicted. On a blue background, in the left corner - the numbers “1953”. There is a yellow border around the perimeter. The composition is not included in the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation. Approved by Decision No. 558 of the executive committee of the City Council of People's Deputies on October 9, 1987.

Pasmurov's estate

What else to see in Almetyevsk and the surrounding area? Many tourists prefer to go to the estate of landowner Pasmurov, which was built in the 18th century and is the oldest building in the vicinity of the city.

The estate of that time was a spectacular three-story building with large white columns. Today this architectural creation is destroyed. All that remains of the estate is an old brick outbuilding and a small, overgrown pond. But despite this, the place attracts many tourists with its history.

Now there is a school here. In her museum you can see old photos of Almetyevsk landmarks from different angles.

The estate is located in the village of Novonikolsky, Almetyevsk district.

Aktash Proval

Not far from the city there is a lake called Aktashsky Proval, which in 2005 was recognized as a natural monument of regional significance.

In August 1939, a tractor was working in a field near the village of Kaleikino. The unsuspecting tractor driver drove the tractor in the direction of one of the hills, and suddenly a gap formed below, into which the tractor and the tractor driver fell.

They were unable to get the tractor driver out, and the place acquired a bad reputation among local residents. A lake with clean and transparent water formed at the bottom of the hole. Several attempts were made to descend into the depths of the hole and find the sources of the current. But they were never found.

The Aktash failure is something that every tourist tries to see in Almetyevsk (more precisely in the Almetyevsky district). After all, according to legend, if you throw a pebble into the lake and make a wish, it will definitely come true.

Map of Almetyevsk with houses

The northeast of the city is built up with low-rise comfortable houses, in which about a third of the population lives. In the west and northwest there are modern neighborhoods and the private sector. Using a map of Almetyevsk with house numbers, you can find any building if its address is known.

In the historical district of the city there are many green spaces; the facades of the buildings have been renovated and look very modern and beautiful. However, most townspeople prefer to live in the northeastern part, where large-scale construction of private brick cottages is underway. The prestige of the area influences the pricing policy in the real estate market.

A map of Almetyevsk with houses allows you to verify the presence of infrastructure facilities in each microdistrict of the city, as well as see whether there are green parks and ponds, highways and stops nearby.

Other sights of Almetyevsk

In 2007, a monument to oil was erected in the city, which represents an oil fountain and consists of 12 silver jets 27 meters high.

The monument is located on Lenin Street. There are benches and flower beds nearby. This area has become a favorite place for local residents to meet and walk.

The cascade of ponds is another attraction of Almetyevsk on Gafiatullina Street. Here you can make a date or meet with friends, ride a bike, stand on the Lovers' Bridge and simply admire the surroundings.

Adjacent to the cascades is Gagarin Street, which is a long pedestrian promenade area. On its territory there are many gazebos, sculptures and various interesting objects.

There is also the Aeronaut sports club, which offers those who wish to take a ride over the city in a hot air balloon.

Here on Lenin Street there is an art gallery of Almetyevsk. What to see at the exhibition? Its funds contain thousands of works of decorative and applied art, paintings and sculptures by Soviet and Tatar masters.

The exhibitions of this gallery are enjoyed by both Almetyevsk residents and tourists coming to the city.

Economy and industry of Almetyevsk

The economic component of Almetyevsk, like the entire region, is the oil industry. A significant part of the city's budget is formed by oil refining companies.

A large hosiery factory “Alsu” operates on the territory of Neftegrad; it was built and opened at the initiative of an oil refining company in order to reduce female unemployment in narrowly specialized employment.

Industrial enterprises are located close to each other, creating a kind of industrial zone in the city. The location of industrial districts can be viewed on Yandex maps of Almetyevsk.

There are many local entrepreneurs working in Neftegrad, who have filled the city with shopping, entertainment and business centers, hairdressers, cafes, restaurants, and shops. On the central streets it is impossible to find a house in which the entire first floor is not occupied by retail or service facilities.

The standard of living in the city is quite high and practically does not differ from the capital of the republic. This helps keep young people in Neftegrad and increase the population.
