I talked to the guys who want to change their time zone and area of residence, and asked: how comfortable do they consider the current living conditions in Muravlenko, are there, in their opinion, prospects for self-realization here, and what are the reasons for the desire to move to larger cities?
The young people I talked to asked not to use their real names in the article; only under these conditions did they agree to talk openly about everything. It’s strange, but the guys think that because of their position they may have problems at work. Therefore, further in the text the names of the characters have been changed.
Six months or more
According to a survey that took place on the social network VKontakte, half of the respondents believe that there are no jobs for young people in our city, and the other half are sure that there is work, but it takes varying amounts of time - from a week to six months - to find it. The study involved 177 people over 18 years of age.
Some young Muravlenko residents dream of moving not to the “land”, but to neighboring cities. They believe that even there there are more prospects. “I’ve been working as a salesperson in a toy store for almost a year,” says Alina. “I tried to find something else, but it didn’t work.” I wouldn’t want to stay in my current position in the future: the pay is low. I have a management degree, graduated from Tomsk State University. But the situation in Muravlenko on the labor market is difficult. I can’t find a job in my specialty, and I have no desire to retrain as an accountant, as they suggested to me at the Employment Center - I didn’t get a graduate degree so that I could later work in a position where they hire people with a secondary education.” The girl wants to move to Noyabrsk and open her own business - selling handmade jewelry. She believes there are more opportunities for young entrepreneurs there.
Perhaps Alina is right in some ways, but Muravlenko also has many successful businessmen among young people. Andrey Ostroverkhov, together with his wife Ksenia and business partners Ilya and Oksana Khrabrov, seemingly just recently opened the first point of sale of “coffee to go” in Muravlenko, and the second will soon open. Designer Dinara Poplavskaya used grant funds to purchase the necessary equipment for her photo studio, and now there is no end to those who want to sign up for a photo shoot... And we can give more than one such example when young and enterprising people start their own business and find themselves in the black.
Victor also faced employment problems. He, like many graduates of the Muravlenkovsky Multidisciplinary College, hoped that upon graduation he would be hired by the oil workers. “It’s impossible to get a job at a city-forming enterprise, I tried, but they didn’t take me,” says the guy. – By the way, they didn’t explain why. Yes, connections are needed everywhere now! I haven’t registered with the Employment Center, I don’t think they will offer me anything suitable. In general, to be honest, I would like to make music professionally - write melodies, songs, but I can’t make money doing this in Muravlenko, so I’m going to leave for St. Petersburg as soon as I save up some money.”
It’s true, there are no representative offices of major recording companies in the city, but there is a studio in the Youth Resource Center. And history knows many enthusiasts who began to create their hits “on the knee”, then successfully conquered the musical Olympus.
Natalya Sasina, director of the Employment Center:
– Many applicants apply for highly paid jobs; most often they want to be managers, lawyers, clerks, economists. But the most in demand for many years have been blue-collar professions: special equipment operator, repairman, driver, turner, electric and gas welder, highly qualified electrician, cook. Electronics engineers, systems engineers, continuing education teachers, and doctors are often required. In total, since the beginning of the year, 176 Muravlenko residents aged 18 to 29 years old have turned to us for advice, of which 114 are officially recognized as unemployed. In total, 56 people have been employed since the beginning of the year. We also offer young people participation in program events: paid internships at city enterprises, temporary employment for graduates aged 18-20.
"Boring and grey"
Roman is 25 years old and dreams of moving to Moscow. Two years ago, the “I’m leaving my hometown forever” puzzle was almost complete for him - the guy spent six months in the capital, but then returned to the North for family reasons. “I have two higher educations – economics and philology, and I’m just bored at Muravlenko,” he says. – And the capital has long been attracting me with its cultural delights, and besides, it’s easier and cheaper to fly from there on vacation. I didn’t want to return to our city. Here you live as if in a vacuum - the same people on the streets, the same events, which the local media talk about year after year only in superlatives, as if a concert or festival was held for the first time, and did not set everyone’s teeth on edge... It’s boring and grey!
According to Roman, the construction of an ethnopark and modern trails for snowboarding and skiing on the city Sopka and in its environs could somehow improve the situation. “The creation of such infrastructure would attract tourists to Muravlenko, but most importantly, investors. And, perhaps, over time, shopping centers and a water park would appear here... Why not try to make the Yamal Sheregesh out of our city?”
Another of my interlocutors, Robert, also believes that in Muravlenko there are few places for recreation for working youth: “I would like us to have a skate park, a climbing wall, and rental of roller skis at the ski base. Young people want to have a fun and varied vacation, but we, in fact, are only offered swimming pools and gyms. Of course, it’s good that there are a lot of them, but variability is needed.”
However, according to the guy, our city has prospects. He believes that young people need to take the initiative into their own hands - write projects to create new places for leisure in Muravlenko, and win funds for their implementation in grant competitions. “In Yamal there are all the opportunities for this, but it’s just a pity that, in fact, the powers that be have shifted the responsibility for creating favorable conditions for the lives of young people onto ourselves,” Robert complains.
The guys who claim that life in Muravlenko is boring and uninteresting can be partly understood - there really is a problem. But it’s unlikely to be one of the spicy ones. Finding something to do in your free time is not difficult. And when making claims to the authorities, you need to understand: young people are people aged 18 to 30, the needs of 20- and 30-year-olds are different. Of course, a young family would prefer that funds from the treasury be allocated for the construction of a kindergarten rather than a skate park. At the same time, we, creative and enterprising ones, are given a chance with the help of grants to add variety to our leisure time.
Vera Kazakova, head of the youth policy department of the UKiMP:
– Young people aged 18 to 30 years can visit gyms completely free of charge at the Center for Patriotic Education and at the Youth Resource Center, there is a club “Young Family”, associations of KVN and hip-hoppers on the basis of the MRC. You can learn to write jokes and rap from Tuesday to Sunday from 14:00 to 20:30, and the club meets on weekends. Several times a year we host auto and photo quests and thematic festivals. In addition, we are always ready to support the initiatives of city residents and help them hold an event. Imposing any projects on adults “from above” is pointless.
Ideal place
Well, everyone has their own reasons for moving, but in the end they come down to one denominator: no work, no opportunity for creative fulfillment, boredom. And we can partly agree with the opinion of the respondents. True, probably, the desire to change places for those who are still at the beginning of life’s journey is the norm; young people always want more and better for themselves... By the way, according to the guys with whom I was able to communicate during the preparation of the article, Muravlenko - an ideal place for young families with children: safe, with a relaxed way of life, well provided with schools, kindergartens and additional education institutions. The heroes of the article say that when they find a soul mate, they will be happy to return to their hometown.
