GRES-2 in Surgut as a winter attraction

“What interesting things to see in Surgut in winter?” I asked myself this question on my first visit to this city. All the most beautiful and interesting things from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug are located in Khanty-Mansiysk, but what about Surgut?

No matter how strange it may seem, there is GRES-2. It is the country's largest gas-fired power plant. And this is really what is worth seeing in winter in Surgut.

So, let’s go, and given the cold weather, we go to Rationalizer Street, after the roundabout we go to Elektrotekhnicheskaya Street, turn right onto Energostroiteley and left onto Tumannaya (what a telling name). From afar you can see a cloud of steam enveloping the entire station and the surrounding area. Therefore, everything, absolutely everything, is covered with a dense layer of ice and snow. Such a snowy and icy kingdom. A narrow road to nowhere, nothing visible except white fog. Siland Hill is no different. Meanwhile, it was still light outside, but here...

The GRES is a sensitive facility and for this reason it must be protected from attacks by everyone, especially tourists. Having driven along a narrow road and stood in the first available place, I began to take photographs. But then 2 men with guns ran up to me and asked me to show me what I had photographed there. Luckily for me, I just inserted a new helmet and took one shot of snow-covered trees, I showed it, the men lagged behind me.

Here he is

Well, what to do, let's move on. Having driven no more than 300 meters, we arrived at a normal parking lot. There is the same steam, the same snow-covered trees, everyone is walking around taking pictures and there is no security. And this is not just a parking lot, it is also a mini embankment near the pond at the state district power plant. It was minus 30 outside!!! Even a little more, but the water doesn’t freeze, that’s where this huge cloud around the power plant comes from.

Some smart words:

The gas is burned, the water evaporates, the steam turns the turbines, the exhaust steam condenses and is discharged into this lake. Those. steam is used in a closed cycle, but in order for the steam to become water again, it must be condensed, that is, cooled. It is for this condensation of steam that water from the reservoir is used.

It was very unusual and beautiful, a lot of people were walking around, everyone was taking pictures against the backdrop of the pond. We also clicked pictures and moved on.

We drove as far as possible around State District Power Plant -2, took a few shots from the car, so as not to run into guys with gunshots again. And we went to the other side of the ice-free pond.

On the other side of the pond, Surgut residents have dachas, walked around the winter dachas and around the pond, there is ice near the shore, but somewhere in the middle a cloud of steam rises, there is still the same water that does not freeze.

So it goes…. In short, if fate suddenly brought you to Surgut in a harsh winter, go to GRES-2 and look at this miracle.
