Dolgoruky Estate
Shchelkovo and its surroundings are known primarily for their estates, which were owned by noble families of the empire for centuries. So in the village of Lukovo there is an estate that once belonged to the princes Dolgoruky. From the middle of the eighteenth century, the estate became the property of the eminent nobleman Izmailov. The estate was rebuilt many times. Significant modifications to the house and buildings were carried out at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The estate had a home theater, on the stage of which both the owners and their guests, as well as serfs, performed. A luxurious park was laid out near the house, which also hosted all kinds of festivities, with illuminations and fireworks. The flower of the Russian intelligentsia, artists, writers, and theater figures gathered here. During the years of Soviet power, the estate was transferred to the jurisdiction of the department of public education, which decided to transfer the building to a boarding school for street children. This led to major changes to the estate. And now it is a very sad-looking government building. True, part of the park and the pond have been preserved.

A magnificent two-story building in the Baroque style, simply pleasing to the tourist’s eye. The façade is yellow, with tall windows and doors framed in white stucco. Three arches at the central entrance, above them an open wide balcony with snow-white columns on the second floor. A wide alley leads to the house, flanked by well-groomed vegetation. There are two massive flowerpots in front of the entrance. There is a small tower on the roof, especially for astronomical observations. Some buildings of the estate are given over to the sanatorium.

The city of Shchelkovo is the center of the Shchelkovo district, which in total includes more than a hundred settlements. The city administration manages the entire city at once. That is, Shchelkovo, although it is divided into microdistricts, does not have separate management for the microdistricts.
These microdistricts consist of villages included within the city (Khotovo, Potapovo), as well as various territories, designated both by characteristic names (Solnechny, Zarechny, Dalniy Voronok) and simply by different numbers (Shchelkovo-3, Shchelkovo-7).

The Klyazma River flows through the entire city, and it seems to separate the old and new parts of the city. The right bank is mainly built up with old two-story buildings and Khrushchev buildings. However, apartments in such buildings are sold at a fairly high price due to their proximity to main transport routes and various institutions.
Traditionally, the most developed part of the city is its central part. Proletarsky Avenue runs here, which flows into the Shchelkovskaya highway leading to Moscow. You can often see traffic jams on the avenue, since this is the main road in the city, and there is no backup road yet.

The immediate center of the city is Lenin Square, which Shchelkovo residents simply call “the square.” It contains the “zero kilometer” of the city, the administration building, a monument to the leader of the revolution and a modern cinema, which was built on the site of the old one. The city limits of Shchelkovo include several villages, so there are quite a large number of private houses on the outskirts of the city. But also new microdistricts consisting of new buildings are appearing in Shchelkovo. New houses here are mainly built in the format of an entire residential complex, creating all the necessary infrastructure specifically for it. Already now, residential complexes such as “Gagarinsky” and “Bogorodsky” are densely populated; apartments in them can be purchased from about 55 thousand per square meter.

The Solnechny Park residential complex is distinguished by its convenient location relative to communications with Moscow, from which you can walk to the Voronok platform in a few minutes on foot. The journey to Moscow by train will take 50 minutes, and you will immediately get to the metro station, from which you can reach the Kremlin in 7 minutes.

On the south-eastern outskirts of the city there is a military airfield Chkalovsky, which is now also used as an international airport, mostly used for air cargo transportation. For this reason, you can often see planes taking off and landing over the city, flying at such an altitude that you can clearly see the appearance of the plane. At first, the noise from flying airplanes may be unusual, but over time this sound will no longer attract attention.
If we talk about the prestige of microdistricts, then “Far Voronok” is considered one of the not entirely favorable ones. Now it is already being built up with new buildings, but there are still a lot of dilapidated two-story houses left.

Its exhibitions are housed in a house built in the mid-nineteenth century, which is an example of Art Nouveau architecture. The oldest church in Shchelkovo is the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. A truly magnificent and picturesque architectural structure. Its construction began in 1909 and ended in 1915. But, with the advent of Soviet power, first a theater was opened in the church building, then a foundry. The beautiful building was defaced. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the building was returned to believers.

Especially for lovers of non-standard youth recreation, the city has five good nightclubs. Almost all of them accept payment in several ways and offer a wide variety of alcoholic drinks and cocktails to suit every taste. The only temple that survived during the times of militant atheism is the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The stone cathedral was erected at the expense of the Murashov merchants. In Shchelkovo there is a well-kept park called the Sundial Park. Two years ago, an unusual sculpture called “Clock Man” was installed there. This grotesque statue made of bronze and granite depicts a man in the form of a cabinet in which are mounted many different kinds of clocks. Two angels were located right there, in the form of benches, and they also had a clock instead of a head. There is also a sculpture “Time” in this park. It consists of two characters. This is an elderly man and a little girl, they look with curiosity at the time disk they hold in their hands.
In memory of the non-stop flight across the North Pole of the people's favorite, the hero of Soviet aviation, Valery Chkalov, a monument was erected in Shchelkovo. What is he? This is a model of the aircraft on which Chkalov’s crew flew from the Soviet Union to the USA.
