Myshkin Museums. Tourist and educational complex "Mouse Chambers" (Mouse Palace)

The tourist and educational complex “Myshkin Chambers” appeared in the city of Myshkin in 2008 with the support of the governor of the Yaroslavl region A. I. Lisitsyn. As part of the project, a new building was even built on the left bank of the Volga River. The two-story mansion is stylized as an old Russian tower: the main entrance is decorated with a wide porch with carved columns, and the windows of the second floor are framed by lace trim.

Over the years, the Mouse Palace has become one of the main attractions of Myshkin. At the height of the season, groups of tourists arrive every day for an audience with the Mouse Tsar, arriving by boat and bus.

In the Myshkin Chambers, guests can enjoy museum exhibitions and a theatrical excursion. The interactive program is designed primarily for children of primary and primary school age, but adults will be interested in the palace collections.

Due to similar names, tourists sometimes confuse the Mouse Palace with the Mouse Museum on Uglichskaya Street. But their exhibits and programs vary greatly.

Exhibits and tour at the Mouse Palace

A visit to the palace begins with an entertainment program. Courtyard girls in sundresses greet the guests - they will be the main guides: they will tell all the secrets of the palace and show all the rooms.

First, the girls lead the visitors to the royal chambers. The entrance to them is guarded by menacing guards who demand to know the password. The girls suggest what needs to be said to the guards, and the tourists are allowed into the throne room, where they wait to meet the royal couple and listen to the story about the city of Myshkin.

Soon the Mouse King and the Queen enter the hall. They welcome guests, introduce them to the traditions and life of the mouse state, and dance. In conclusion, the spouses wish the travelers a pleasant viewing of the exhibition and the courtyard girls lead everyone to the hall of bears.

This room features a collection of teddy bears. The exhibition is complemented by paintings and coats of arms depicting clubfoot. The exhibition is dedicated to the symbol of the Yaroslavl region - the bear.

The tour continues in the Living Room with access to the balcony. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Volga, and then go into a dim room where girls tell interesting legends about mirrors. In addition to the usual ones, this room contains distorting mirrors, which children especially like.

Then tourists are invited to the basements of the Mouse Chambers. There is a real menagerie here - different types of rodents live here in cages and glass boxes: mice, rats, chinchillas and other members of the family.

The program ends in the children's room with toy mice or a walk along mouse trails to the Mouse Grotto and the Kissing Bridge.

Entertainment programs

In addition to group excursions, the Mouse Chambers organize festive tea parties with fun competitions and theatrical performances.

Such entertainment is primarily aimed at children. For adults, the Mouse Palace currently offers only one program. In addition to tea drinking, it includes tasting of locally produced alcoholic beverages.

The “Mouse Chambers” complex (aka Mouse Palace) was opened in 2008 with the active support of the then governor of the Yaroslavl region A.I. Lisitsyn. And also 2008 was the year of the mouse according to the eastern calendar, and therefore special for the city of Myshkin.

A visit to the complex is organized in the form of interactive programs: the guards ask for the password, the courtyard girls are happy to reveal all the palace secrets and escort guests along mouse paths, the king and queen in the throne room talk about the difficult royal life and teach how to protect themselves from cat misfortunes. You can also see in the imperial hall a large collection dedicated to the symbol of the Yaroslavl region - the bear. And the most unusual part is the royal menagerie - a mini-zoo with live mice. Date of visit 01/03/2018. Highly recommend. Interesting game program and exhibition, as well as a mouse zoo. Bank cards are accepted. Special respect for this. I would like to increase the opening hours to 18.00. In all other respects, well done. Slavyan, 01/05/2018

We visited the museum on August 19, 2017. I was disappointed with my visit to the museum. We paid 200 rubles per person. for the so-called excursion. A crowd of more than 60 people gathered. (all this time, while the museum workers were gathering people, everyone was crowding on the museum porch). If you consider that the exhibition halls are very small, you can imagine what it was like there: it was hot, you couldn’t see anything and you couldn’t hear anything. The guide (her name was Yulka) was without a microphone, she couldn’t hold the audience, and she even shouted at the children, who really wanted to see the exhibits. In 30 minutes, our crowd was driven “at a European gallop” through several halls and shown to the door (exit) on the other side of the palace. As a result, we heard nothing and didn’t really see anything. As it turned out, there should also be a Mouse Grotto, themed rooms, and life-size mouse puppets. They didn't show us any of this. It's a pity that you wasted money, and even more wasted time. I agree with Svetlana. We were also rudely shown the door (when asked about the ticket price. And then a crowd of more than 60 people were galloped through several halls and shown to the door (exit). The guide (who gave her name as Yulka) raised her voice at the children. Conclusion: it’s a pity for wasted time and money Irina, 08/24/2017

We decided to visit Myshkin with our family on July 15, 2017. Arriving it turned out to be a city day in Myshkino. In general, the city left a positive impression, which cannot be said about the mouse palace, which we were not able to visit due to the large number of groups being served, as the not very friendly person at the entrance explained to us. It turned out that after driving 200 km we did not visit that museum, so to speak, which positions its city. I don’t want to offend other Myshkin museums, but there are such exhibitions in almost every city. It turns out that not all guests are welcome in Myshkin. Vladimir, 07/17/2017

We were shocked that there is no toilet in the 2008 building. The impression is completely ruined. From the whole city. Irina, 01/03/2017

A nice and interesting museum for children, with elements of a theatrical performance - a performance by the Mouse King and the Queen, a wonderful “mouse zoo”, colorful exhibits, beautiful views from the balcony. The child (5 years old) really liked it. You can take photographs everywhere (except the zoo, so as not to scare the animals). Tickets are purchased for the excursion; the schedule of excursions is posted at the entrance; as a rule, they are held in the first half of the day. The only thing that bothered me was that before our excursion (according to the schedule) they squeezed in a late group from the ship, and we had to wait about 15 minutes. The scene with mice suddenly coming to life in the mill is a genuine find of the museum workers... The guide Dasha is an amazingly artistic and beautiful creature with a perfectly developed speech. The blacksmith looks like an old Russian intellectual who has gone to the people. The Goncharka does not shy away from people and values her work. The mouse king and the mouse queen are pretty good actors. ... and even post-apocalyptic rats and house mice look incredibly touching. I personally liked it, and so did the group of tourists I led from Nizhny. I hope that our date will be repeated. Mikhail, 07/18/2016

I have been to Myshkin many times and admired the new museum (Chambers). We came with a wedding cortege in June 2013 and everyone really enjoyed it. Last summer we took our granddaughter (she is 3 years old) on an excursion. For a whole year Nastenka asked: “When will we go to Myshkin again?” Last week they took her to Myshkin’s chambers again. Before we had time to leave the city, she asks: “When will we go to Myshkin again?” The child really liked it. And how can one not like such beauty? Such wonderful girls-tour guides, beautiful, lively, don’t put your finger in your mouth (especially Anya). Thanks everyone! Everything is very great! Irina, 06/02/2016

And we liked everything. Very polite staff. And the program is good. I went with my wife. We will eat again soon with the child. Highly recommend! Pavel, 11/30/2015

We arrived in Myshkin on 05/03/2015. We liked the performance on the street and a group of 5 people decided to visit your museum. We entered the museum and were simply in SHOCK! When asked how much tickets to the museum cost, an insanely angry museum employee pointed to the doors and gave us all the information on the door, go and read. WE ARE STUNNED by such rudeness. As it turned out later, tickets cost 200 rubles. There were 5 of us per person, so 1000 rubles. Apparently your museum didn’t need them. Working in tourism My colleagues and I, who wanted to see your museum in order to organize group programs, understood everything for ourselves. You need to work well or not work AT ALL. It is a pity that the museum was opened, but due attention was not paid to the selection of personnel. Workers like yours belong in the market, not in a museum. A SHAME! Svetlana, 05/05/2015
