TOP-26 - what to see in Bataysk, Rostov region

Local history scholars insist on several versions of the origin of the name of the city of Bataysk. According to one of the common ones, it follows that it got its name from a river called Bataisu. Which translates as Batu stream. The headquarters of the famous conqueror, Batu Khan, was allegedly located in this place. According to another version, the name of the city comes from the Turkic phrase “ba tai su”, which means “wet lowland with a stream”.

General information and history of the city

Bataysk is a small city in the Rostov region, in terms of population as one of the districts of Rostov-on-Don (117 thousand people), in fact it is such a district.
The city border extends only 8 km from the extreme point of the Don capital, making Bataysk a satellite city. Since the 14th century, it has been known about the source, on the site of present-day Bataysk. Travelers hurrying along the trade route to China during the Mongol-Tatar yoke stopped here; Peter I immediately built fortresses in his Azov campaigns. The village was founded in 1769; the road to Kuban passed through it. The name comes from the phrase Batu - su, that is, Batu's well. At the end of the 19th century, a branch of the Vladikavkaz railway was laid through Bataysk, and a large sorting point was organized, which gave life to the settlement. By the revolution, the city's population reached 20 thousand people.

After the revolution, Bataysk became a workers' village, and the status of a city was assigned to it in 1938. During these years, an airfield and an aviation flight school were opened here, whose graduates became Heroes of the Soviet Union more than a hundred times. Bataysk was captured and liberated in the Great Patriotic War along with Rostov - twice in 1942 and 1943. After the war, the city was missing a railway station, a bakery, a dozen enterprises, and thousands of houses. The destroyed national economy was restored at an accelerated pace over several decades.

Nowadays, industrial and construction companies and depots operate on the territory of Bataysk, however, the majority of the working population prefers to commute to work in Rostov-on-Don, guided by higher wages in the Don capital.

Sights and leisure

Bataysk has quite interesting architecture. The largest and most beautiful attraction of Bataysk is the Holy Trinity Church, which was built in 2003. Previously, there was a church built here in 1854, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union it was destroyed. Due to the absence of a church, services were held in the cinema, and then a new beautiful temple was built. On its territory there is a monument to St. Andrew the First-Called.

In memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War, a memorial was erected in Bataysk, on which the names of all the city residents who died during the defense in the Great Patriotic War are carved.

There is a beautiful park of culture and recreation named after V.I. Lenin, where you can enjoy beautiful sculptures and monuments. There is a monument to female breasts here. According to legend, those who rub this work of art will be happy in love.

In the city there is a monument to Romeo and Juliet, who came to their first date at the House of Culture. All newlyweds are photographed with this monument during their wedding photo shoot.

You can have a very good time in Aviator Square or in the Park. There are attractions and small cafes there.

For cinema lovers there is a large cinema with two cinema halls and slot machines.

There is also a famous landmark dedicated to the old railway station - the steam locomotive monument.

Climate and ecology of Bataysk

The climate in Bataysk is moderate - continental, steppe. In winter, quite a bit of snow remains on the surface, mainly due to the fact that the thaw does not allow it to lie for a long time. Snowfalls can be quite long and heavy, and in the private sector (and the city is half private) there are transportation problems. Spring and autumn are rainy, but summer is real, southern steppe. It's hot during the day, and it's no better. The average temperature in January is -2.3˚С, in July +24.5˚С.

The environment contributes to the increasing population of residential areas: the air is clean, pollution from industrial enterprises is minimal. Modern urban planning standards that guide the design and construction of multi-storey buildings require the presence of internal squares, parks, and green spaces.

Negative factors of the environmental situation are frequent flooding of the city's private sector due to floods of the Koysug River.

Population of Bataysk

Bataysk is one of the few cities whose population did not decrease after the collapse of the USSR. If in 1991 there were 93 thousand people in the city, then in 2014 there were already 117 thousand. The positive dynamics are associated with the commissioning of large volumes of housing, which contributes to the movement of the physically active population to the city.

Now in the new districts of Bataysk, young families with children predominate, since all conditions have been created for the growth and development of the younger generation in the city. Many people prefer to live in shady and quiet Bataysk rather than in polluted and noisy Rostov.

In general, people are friendly and non-conflicting. Easier and calmer than in the neighboring regional center.

Reviews from residents about the city of Bataysk

Reviews about the city, published in 2016, show citizens' satisfaction with it. At the same time, reviews from 2022 and 2018 tell only about shortcomings. They mainly complain about bad roads, sometimes about garbage, dirt, high utility bills, and also about local residents. This is probably due to the fact that people are simply tired of the protracted crisis of recent years and have begun to treat everything more irritably and negatively. The increasing number of complaints about bad roads can also be associated with the increase in motorization of the population in our country. Previously, this factor did not bother many people.

Comparing the indicators of Bataysk and many other Russian cities, we can confidently conclude that living conditions here are generally quite good.

Districts and real estate of Bataysk

Bataysk starts from the street. Polovinko (then Embankment), from which it began to grow on both sides. This street is now part of the Severny district (or Northern residential area - SZhM).

Bataysk Map

The city is bisected by a railroad. There are only two road bridges across it, so when something goes wrong with them, a transport collapse begins in the city. The areas to the right of the railway are Vostochny and Aviagorodok, on the left are the center, the Zarya district (or simply Zarya), the RDVS.

In 1959, the village of Koysug was included in the city. In the south of the city there is the village of Red Garden, which, despite its proximity to the city, is a rural settlement in the Azov region. Being literally a few steps from Bataysk, residents of the Red Garden must travel 40 km to Azov to obtain certificates, visit a clinic or school.

The city is dominated by one-story private buildings. Recently, several complexes of multi-storey buildings have been built. Such a complex of 14 multi-storey buildings was erected in the Severny district. The proximity to the transport artery with Rostov explains the high prices for houses in this part of the city. A standard one-room apartment can be bought here for 2.2 million rubles. One of the advantages of the area is that you can walk to the highway and take any passing bus to Rostov.

Northern residential area

The eastern residential area also has its own multi-storey complex. Prices for new buildings are 1.5 million rubles. for a one-room apartment, 2.2 million rubles. for a two-room apartment, and from 2.7 million rubles. for a private house with a total area of at least 80 m2. The Bataysk marshalling station is located in this area.

All administrative services are located in the block bounded by the street. Lenin, Engels and Workers. For those who work in the administration, it is convenient to buy housing in this area, especially since the price here starts from 1.8 million for a one-room apartment. Disadvantages: high gas pollution due to traffic congestion.

The RDVS district (named as the main enterprise is the mechanical repair plant of Rostovdonvodstroy) is located in the very south of the city. This is a synthesis of a small industrial zone and the private sector. Housing here costs 1.5 million rubles. for one-room apartments, and 2.5 million rubles. for the house. Getting from RDVS to the center, and even more so to Rostov, without personal transport is very inconvenient: there is only one bus route to the area, which during rush hour is completely clogged at the final stop.

The Zarya district (or Aviator Square) is one of the best places to live in the city. There are many modern multi-storey buildings, a school, two kindergartens, a park, and a hospital. The price of apartments starts from 1.6 million rubles.

The village of Koysug (like Red Garden) consists almost entirely of one-story buildings. When choosing housing, you should be very careful - many houses are built of adobe (a mixture of clay and straw), and only the outside is lined with brick. If you don’t heat such a house for at least one season, then you won’t be able to remove the smell of mold from the walls. Buses travel around the village regularly, only very slowly (sometimes it’s faster to walk). A brick house for one family can be purchased for 2.5 million rubles.

Map of Bataysk with streets

The city has an official territorial division into 7 microdistricts, which can be viewed on the map of Bataysk with diagrams. Only two microdistricts are built up with high-rise buildings; the rest are dominated by the private sector. The layout of the streets is clearly rectangular. The main city highways - Engels and Kuibyshev streets, which can be seen on the map of Bataysk with streets, run parallel to each other through the entire settlement.

Another significant highway is the Eastern Highway; it goes around the city from the east and is a continuation of the M-7 Don federal highway. Bataysk is connected to Rostov-on-Don by the Southern and Western entrances. Also in the western part of the city, the federal highway Rostov-on-Don - Azov originates.

The map of Bataysk with streets and houses clearly shows that most of the administrative buildings, retail facilities, and educational institutions are located in the central area of the city. Here are located:

  • Military registration and enlistment office;
  • Cinema;
  • Museum;
  • Hospital and clinic;
  • Central Market;
  • Supermarkets;
  • Fire Department;
  • Banks.

Local residents consider the Lenin City Cultural Park to be one of the city’s attractions, which, as a detailed map of Bataysk shows, is also located in the center. This is not only a favorite vacation spot for townspeople with shady alleys planted with mulberries, but also the main meeting place for lovers, for whom there is a special bench installed here. The park also has a reconciliation bench and a wishing stone.

City infrastructure

Problems with the infrastructure of Bataysk are the same for all districts. Firstly, there are seasonal hot water outages. During the warm season, residents of high-rise buildings are left without hot water. The only thing that saves us is the presence of water heaters and water heating systems.

The second is a small water pressure. In order for the water supply to work, pumps are often installed on the top floors of houses.

The third bad weather is seasonal flooding. Bataysk is located in a lowland, and seasonal flooding is common here. Therefore, when choosing a house in the private sector, it is necessary to inspect the basements for traces of water, and if there is no basement at all in a private house, it is worth considering whether everything is okay here.

Consequences of flooding

Fourth – huge expenses for heating. The city's housing and communal services charge the population a disproportionate payment for heating in the winter - almost half of the amount of all services. An autonomous heating system for houses becomes a salvation.

There are 11 secondary schools in the city, which are not as prestigious as Rostov’s, but provide sufficient knowledge. It is just as difficult for a child to get into kindergarten as in any other Russian city; you must wait in line and pay an official fee.

Among the special education institutions in the city, there is the Bataisky Railway College, which trains specialists to work on the local railway. stations.

Bataysk Railway College

The cultural life of the city is in full swing. In Bataysk there are 3 music schools, several centers for the development of children and youth, 5 cultural centers in the districts, a cinema, a sports school, and an art school. The city does not experience an acute shortage of restaurants and cafes, just for them you won’t have to travel to Rostov.

There is one clinic and one hospital on the territory of Bataysk. Those city residents who go to Rostov to earn money mostly undergo treatment in the Don capital, since many enterprises have their own medical insurance.

Transport throughout the city runs regularly and without delays, but there are too many people wanting to leave during rush hour, and a slight crush is created in the cabin. Minibuses (15-20 minutes drive) and electric trains (22 minutes) run between Bataysk and Rostov.
