Bobruisk. Attractions on the map, photos with descriptions of what to see, where to go

Archaeologists have discovered evidence of human presence on the territory of modern Bobruisk, dating back to the 3rd century. BC. The city was named after the Bobruika River, on the banks of which it was founded.

In the 12th-13th centuries. Bobruisk was part of the Principality of Minsk, and at the end of the 18th century the city became part of the Russian Empire. Before the Patriotic War of 1812, a fortress was built in Bobruisk, which played a decisive role in the defense of the city from French troops.

Until the middle of the 19th century. In the city there was a ban on the construction of stone buildings outside the fortress walls. Therefore, during the fire, Bobruisk was completely burned out. At that time there were about 2 thousand wooden buildings and only 8 stone ones.

After the revolution, Bobruisk was occupied by German troops for a year. In 1922 it became part of the USSR. The German occupation was repeated during the Great Patriotic War. It lasted from 1941 to 1944.

Since 1991, the city became part of Belarus.

What to see around Bobruisk and on the way here - lakes, museums, places of memory in an overview of the main attractions of Belarus.

The importance of the city in the modern world

Bobruisk, whose sights have existed for more than 600 years, was first mentioned as a city in documents in 1387. At that time it was part of the territory of the Principality of Lithuania. But for the first time people settled in these places in the Stone Age, which is confirmed by archaeological finds. During the 5th-6th centuries, a settlement of ancient Slavic tribes appeared on the banks of the Berezina River.

The settlement owes its name to the massive beaver pelt industry. In ancient times, the population was actively engaged in beaver hunting and fishing. Today it is a large regional center of the Mogilev region with petrochemical, woodworking and timber industries, machine-building plants and food production enterprises.

The area of the city is just under 100 square meters. km.

Monuments

The main historical monument of the city is the Bobruisk fortress built in the early 19th century, erected to protect the western borders of the state. It was the largest building of defensive architecture in Russia at that time. The only citadel that withstood the pressure of French troops in the war with Napoleon.

Afterwards it was used as a prison for political prisoners, including the Decembrists. During the Great Patriotic War, the fortress was used by the Germans as a concentration camp. In the post-war period, they tried to blow it up and destroy it. Today, restoration work began to restore the ancient bastion.

The Kancelson merchant house, built in the Art Nouveau style at the beginning of the 20th century on 25 Internatsionalnaya Street, is a monument of wooden architecture and is included in the list of cultural and historical values of Belarus.

The tank monument on the grave of soldiers who died during the liberation of the city from the Nazis was installed on Victory Square. At the intersection of the pedestrian Socialist Street with Karl Marx Street there is a monument to the Beaver, the symbol of the city. There is a belief that a wish will come true if you touch his ring.

At the intersection of Pushkin and Proletarskaya streets, a monument to the literary hero of the story by Ilf and Petrov, Shura Balaganov, was erected.

Bobruisk fortress

This is the first thing that attracts history buffs to the city. The Bobruisk fortress is called a sister city to the Brest fortress, and its history is no less remarkable. This defensive structure was built by personal order of Emperor Alexander I. The implementation of the plan, approved personally by the Tsar, was led by engineer Karl Opperman, a German by birth who was a Russian citizen. The architects successfully used the features of the landscape and old buildings (for example, the old Jesuit church), around which the fortress was built. As a result, an entire city was erected with architectural buildings in the classicist style, a square, a botanical garden and a temple. The cobbled streets and square of the Bobruisk fortress have repeatedly hosted military parades.

The fortress was protected by ten-meter walls with loopholes and water ditches. Supplies of weapons and ammunition were designed for a year of siege, food - for six months. This made it possible to withstand a four-month siege by Napoleon's army in 1812. After that, the Bobruisk fortress served as a military warehouse; political prisoners were also kept here, and during the Second World War, the Germans set up a concentration camp for prisoners of war there. In the 50s, it was decided to destroy the fortress, the walls of which fell into disrepair during the war. They spent a lot of dynamite to undermine the defensive structures, but the bastion survived.

Now the authorities are working on the restoration of the Bobruisk fortress. Tours of the ancient bastion are becoming increasingly popular among connoisseurs of architecture and military history. The Belarusian authorities are planning to turn the Bobruisk fortress into a modern historical and cultural complex with a developed tourist infrastructure, so if you want to see the battle scars of the great citadel, it is better to hurry.

Legends of Bobruisk

There is one legend associated with the name of Bobruisk .
There lived a beggar Jew Moses. He had a vision in which he was given a decree to go into the desert and lead his people there. Moses walked on the sands with the Jews for 40 years. One day the women could not stand it and rebelled. They got tired of wandering and left in an unknown direction. The women decided to set up camp near the nearest river. They built houses there and settled permanently. There were so many women that everyone began to call them a swarm. This is how the first name of the settlement appeared - Bab Roysk. Now it is a big city called Bobruisk.

According to another legend , in ancient times one had to manage to find a way to it. This involved following a school of sardines as they swam through the Talking River. A Bridge led through it, the passage of which required great dexterity. Then the person found himself on the path of joy. To those who tasted this feeling, the Talking Mountain was revealed.

On the way, the man met gnomes, and became acquainted with the Great Tube. If he was in the mood, he would point the way to the Temple of Awakening, from where it was easy to get to the Building of Fire. The doors were opened by a crazy Temple Wolves trainer.

They alone could show the further path, but only to a select few who know the components of the Shar's elixir. However, with the Wolves you need to spend time over a keg of beer. Then the animals will advise you to return to the Talking River, to the crocodiles. For their friendliness, they introduce the traveler to the beavers, who, after intimate conversations, will guide the person to Bobruisk.

One of its legends is connected with the Port Arthur building . The house is built of red brick, in the form of a rectangle, with two exits from the courtyard. Externally, the building resembles the Western Wall of Jerusalem. In this regard, there is a belief that if a person touches a house and makes a bright and sincere wish, it will certainly come true.

Beaver Monument

And of course, one cannot fail to mention the monument to the symbol of the city, which local residents consider to be perhaps the main attraction of Bobruisk. More precisely, two attractions, because there are two monuments. One beaver - on Karl Marx Street, not far from the market - greets you standing, while the second is luckier: he sits with his legs crossed.

It must be said that monuments love to sit on benches - from Leonid Utesov to John Lennon. Leonid Utesov lounged imposingly on the famous Deribasovskaya, and John Lennon actually went all the way to Cuba, occupying a bench in one of the public gardens in Havana. The symbol of Bobruisk sits at the entrance to the Tavern on Moskovskaya, as if inviting you to enter the establishment.

Initially, the Beaver was simply bronze, but restaurateurs decided to decorate it, which gave the symbol of the city a special charm. In general, it’s worth saying that this is a good marketing ploy, because tourists specifically come to Sotsialisticheskaya Street to take pictures on the bench next to the cheerful beaver. Therefore, when you tell your friends that you were in Bobruisk, and they decide to tease you with the question “did you see beavers?”, you can answer: “Of course. I even took a photo with one.”

The video about Bobruisk is a real mini-tour of the glorious Belarusian city on the Berezina River. Photos of the most beautiful sights and a very interesting song dedicated to this city. Take a look, you won't regret it.
