Monument to those killed in the explosion of the Champagne adits

Memorial to the victims of the tragedy of the Great Patriotic War. The Inkerman adits were called Champagne by the local population due to the fact that they were used to store champagne wines that were produced in Sevastopol. During the Great Patriotic War, part of the adits was transferred for military needs.

Ammunition was stored here, as well as hospitals, industrial enterprises, dormitories and infrastructure for the inhabitants of the adits. In 1942, before the Germans arrived in Sevastopol, some of the wounded military personnel, as well as civilians, were evacuated. The remaining people bravely held the line.

On the night of June 29-30, 1942, by order of the command of the Black Sea Fleet, the ammunition storage facility was blown up. As a result, people who were unable to leave the quarries on time due to shelling died under the rubble. Among them were the wounded, women, children and old people.

According to various sources, the death toll ranged from 1,500 to 3,000 people, but the actual number of victims remains unknown to this day. The monument is located in Inkerman, not far from the railway crossing public transport stop.

Monument to the 345th Dagestan Rifle Division

This monument was opened quite recently, on October 30, 2019, on the anniversary of the start of the Second Heroic Defense of Sevastopol. The map of attractions of Crimean Inkerman is extensive and rich. Their fame spread far beyond the borders of the peninsula.

St. Clement Monastery

This monastery is named in memory of Bishop Clement, who preached the laws of Christianity, and was exiled to Crimea for hard labor. In the 8th-9th centuries, monks began to cut down cells and other places of worship right in the limestone rock, giving rise to the famous Inkerman Cave Monastery. Even the altar here is carved from stone. This is one of the 10 most ancient monasteries in the world.

The monastery is still in operation. It is not against tourists here if they come with their heads covered and in appropriate clothing. However, women wearing trousers are given skirts to visit the monastery. The entrance is free. Taking photos in the sacred place of the Crimean city of Inkerman is also allowed; only monks and other workers of the monastery cannot be photographed.

Kalamita

Time has not been kind to the Byzantine fortress of Kalamita in the Monastery Mountain area: out of five towers, only one 10 meters high is well preserved. But it also leaves a lasting impression. For guests of Crimean Inkerman, a souvenir photo is a mandatory ritual in this place. The citadel built by the Genoese eventually passed to the Crimean Tatars and defended the western coast from the Ottoman Empire for quite a long time, but in the end, Taurida was forced to submit to the power of the Turks.

You can still hear stories that among the ruins you can hear the groans of prisoners beaten to death who could not be sold at the slave market. Others claimed that someone here had seen the ghosts of English soldiers who were trapped here during the Crimean War.

Zagaitan fortification

The fortified settlement of the ancient Tauri inhabitants of Crimea, which includes over three hundred cave structures, resembles a honeycomb in its appearance. The surviving parts of the former unified complex are located south of the Kalamita citadel, on the mountain between the left bank of the river. Chernaya and adjacent highway.

Winery

A mandatory place on the list of things to see in Crimean Inkerman is the local vintage wine factory. The area of the cellars where unique wine varieties are born is 55 thousand m². The glass pipes through which the future wine flows, the huge oak barrels, and the stacks of bottles covered with a thick coating of dust, awaiting the end of their aging period, are also impressive.

The one and a half hour excursion flies by in a flash, the winemakers talk so captivatingly about their work. Anyone can visit here, but you need to sign up for the excursion in advance. The tours end in the tasting room, after which everyone typically lingers at the local specialty store.

White adits of Inkerman

Sevastopol owes the title of white stone to the city of Inkerman. It was in the vicinity of Inkerman that white stone was mined for Sevastopol, reviving the hero city after the war. The town itself bore the name Belokamensk for 15 years. This is what its famous white rocks look like in the photo in the vicinity of the city of Inkerman. White limestone began to be mined here for the construction of ancient Chersonesos. And the first written evidence about the Inkerman adits is dated 93 BC, when the Monk Clement was exiled here.

Romantics tell a legend about Saint Clement, who discovered a spring in dry ground, which over time turned into a fabulously beautiful lake. A more realistic story involves blasting that accidentally exposed underground water. Many people go to the beaches of Sevastopol, Lyubimovka or Uchkuevka, getting there by sea boats or minibuses.
