Sochi is the most beautiful resort in Russia. This is probably the only city on the Black Sea coast where you can relax and work, enjoy the warm sea and snowy mountains at the same time.

Those who love interesting excursions and vibrant nightlife should relax in the central part of Sochi. Those who like to quietly lie on the beach can stay in other areas - Adler, Lazarevsky, Khosta - all of this is part of one large city.

There is one amazing place that is worth visiting, no matter where on the Black Sea coast you find yourself - this is the Olympic Park.

Book your vacation in advance! This is a guarantee of low prices and availability of holidays.

Fisht Stadium

Fisht Stadium is a unique sports attraction in the Krasnodar region.

The height of the stadium reaches 69 meters, it is designed in the shape of a sea shell and a snowy mountain peak. Australian specialists worked on the project, and this work of art was erected by Russian and Turkish construction companies. This majestic building fits well into the surrounding mountainous landscape and vaguely resembles the shape of the Fisht mountain of the same name. In 2022, the Fisht stadium is preparing to host the FIFA World Cup; about 1 million people plan to visit it.

Sports attractions

Since the territory of the Olympic Park is huge, for transportation it is best to choose one of the vehicles: a bicycle, rollerblades, scooters, Segways or some other nice type of mini-transport. Otherwise, you will simply get tired and the walk will be unpleasant.

Fisht Stadium

The most grandiose structure of the Olympic Park. The opening and closing of the XXII Winter Olympic Games were held here, and you probably saw this stadium on TV. The design of the stadium was based on the shape of the structure, reminiscent of both a shell and a mountain top. Capacity 40,000 spectators. Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, additional work has been carried out to increase fan capacity. Currently the stadium can accommodate 45,000 people.

Ice Palace "Bolshoi"

During the Winter Olympic Games, the Bolshoi Ice Palace was the main hockey stadium. It is designed for 12,000 spectators and is multifunctional. It can be transformed into a boxing ring or concert venue, to host trade fairs or circus performances. Today, the Bolshoi Ice Palace is also the home rink of the local hockey team Sochi.

In addition to these creations, here you will see:

  • The Iceberg Ice Palace, where the Russian World Figure Skating Championships and hockey tournaments are currently held. Youth hockey teams play here for the prestigious Black Sea Cup.
  • Shaiba Ice Arena, the second most important and largest sports facility after the Bolshoi Ice Palace
  • Sochi Autodrom is the pride of the Olympic Park and the venue for Formula 1 racing.

And in order not to wander alone through all this beauty, you can come here on a tour.

Ice Palace "Bolshoi"

The second iconic object of the Olympic heritage is the Bolshoi Ice Palace.

This stadium was built in 2012 according to the project. This is the first structure of this level of complexity designed by Russian engineers and architects. The complex consists of underground and above-ground parts, with a total area of 100 square meters and can accommodate 12 thousand guests.

Olimpic village

This object of architectural and design work also deserves special attention. A total of 47 residential complexes were built on the territory of the “village”. During the Olympic Games, athletes and members of their families lived here. In addition, media representatives, trainers, as well as people who were directly involved in organizing such a large-scale project were located in the village. Yes, at the moment the Olympic Village has been converted into a resort complex and bears the colorful name “Juicy”.

Ice Sports Palace "Iceberg"

The Iceberg Ice Palace was designed and erected in 2012 in the Olympic Park. “Iceberg” occupies an area of 68,000 m2, has an ice arena and accommodates 12 thousand seats and a training skating rink.

This sports palace has a unique microclimate maintained in the stands and arena. It can easily be repurposed for summer sports competitions.

"Adler Arena"

The indoor speed skating rink stands majestically on the flat terrain of the Caucasus Mountains.

The complex has an unusual design: it is an oval stadium, 400 meters long, with two competitive ice tracks. Tinted stained glass windows fit harmoniously into this project and emphasize its grandeur, because the height of the building reaches 25 meters.

If you get to the ice palaces at night, they will have beautiful lighting that will captivate any eye and you will be able to capture your happy faces against this beautiful background. They open before you in all their glory - the Fisht stadium, the Shayba ice arena, the Big Ice Palace, etc. You will be able to take a photo next to them as a keepsake and show everyone that you were here.

Singing Fonan

On the territory of the Olympic Park there is the most important, in my opinion, sports heritage - this is the “Olympic Fire Bowl”, and now the “Singing Fountain” in the Olympic Park.

The fountain was built for the opening and closing of the Olympic Games, and now every day it delights resort guests with its evening show.

The singing fountain in the Olympic Park is designed in the form of a Firebird sculpture, which has a fiery crest and huge wings. The bowl has a diameter of 75 meters. 264 gigantic fountains are equipped with cannons capable of shooting jets of water to a height of 70 meters, each individually illuminated. The fountain is controlled using a control panel that combines all the functions of the fountain into one.

If you are flying on a plane to Sochi and are sitting on the right, then the entire Olympic Park will appear before your eyes when you land.

Olympic Park in Sochi - a place on a grand scale

I have been planning to visit the Olympic Park in Sochi for a long time. I wanted to do it right after the Olympics, but things didn’t work out. But better late than never. If you find yourself in those parts, I recommend going. And you can just walk around the territory during the day and look at the amazing buildings, and in the evening you can come specially to listen to the singing fountain. As I understand it, locals go there like they go to a regular city park now. Some go rollerblading/biking, some take a walk with the child, some go swimming (in the warm season). It’s probably convenient to live nearby, there’s always somewhere to get some fresh air.

Olympic Park

Honestly. The Olympic Park made a pleasant impression. Yes, you can talk about politics, about the need for the Olympics, etc., but I propose not to go beyond the sights and now consider this object in this light. So, it looks unusual. Modern. That is, it really works for the attraction, at least once.

Well, if you live in Sochi or Adler, then you can still come here to spend your leisure time (walking, rollerblading, bicycles, beach), the territory allows it. Especially, I think, there is freedom for rollerbladers here, where else can you get such an area with an even surface in the surrounding area. It’s not that important for cyclists anyway. Well, the beach here is good, although traditionally rocky: there are few people, the embankment is long and landscaped, the sea is clear.

Look at the photos and you will understand everything yourself. The only thing that bothered me was the mesh fence. It’s everywhere, everything is fenced off, you can only go through certain places. We did not immediately find the passage to the beach. I suppose it was done for safety, but it is inconvenient and aesthetically terribly unattractive. The more the fence looks temporary (and it is, indeed, not permanent), which gives the impression of some kind of work or construction.

There are several other museums nearby

The Olympic Park is a complex of buildings in which training and competitions are held, mainly in winter sports. The largest and most significant stadium is the Fisht Stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2014 Olympic Games. After its modification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, its capacity reaches 47,659 people.

In addition to the stadiums, the Olympic Park has a lot of facilities intended for the accommodation of athletes, as well as transport, educational, historical and entertainment facilities, including the now famous Singing Fountain in Adler. There is a Tesla Museum, a Museum of Retro Cars, a Formula 1 track and Sochi Park.

The Olympic Park has several colorful paths. I also noticed them when I was looking at the satellite map, they are clearly visible there. If the weather and mood are good, the place is suitable for photo sessions, in my opinion. Although maybe it’s just me that has sunk into my soul.

Stunning colorful paths, I photographed them from all sides

How to get there

Getting there by car is not a problem, there are signs everywhere, and any navigator will guide you normally. Even if you make a mistake and come from the wrong side, it’s not a problem to get where you need to go; the road, one might say, goes around the Olympic Park. You need the A-147 highway, then follow the road signs towards the Olympic Park and then you need the Olympic Avenue. There are many free parking lots, including free ones.

The easiest way to get to public transport is by train "Lastochka". From Sochi it takes about 50 minutes to the Olympic Park stop. After leaving the station, you will have a one and a half kilometer walk to the center of the park, to the fountains. It will be better if you rent an electric scooter or bicycle.

From Adler you can either take a train (10 minutes ride) to the same station, or take a bus to the Sochi Park stop: 125С, 135, 135Э, 88 and minibuses 54, 57.

Map and parking

The dot on my map is in a free parking area. I asked around, this parking lot is always free and its area is quite large. From the map it may seem that it is a long walk to the center of the Olympic Park, where the singing fountain is, but in fact it takes no more than 15 minutes. At the time of my visit, there was definitely another free parking lot on the embankment near the Bolshoi Sports Palace, but it was quite small. Also, during some events they open access to other parking lots (at normal times they are closed), but I don’t know whether they are paid or not. You can also park in the Sochi Park parking lot for free.

Sochi Park

We walked around, took photos, it’s time to go to the Sochi Park amusement park and ride for the rest of the day.

You will get unforgettable emotions. This is a mini-Disneyland in Russia. But I advise you to go there after you’ve visited the ice palaces, otherwise, after you’ve skated to your heart’s content and walked around the park, you won’t want to go anywhere.

How to get there

The easiest way to get to the Olympic Park, even from Tuapse itself, is Lastochka. This is a high-speed electric train that will quickly and comfortably take you to Sochi. For some trains this is the final station, others go further to the airport, and still others will go to the park, where we need it. If you live in Sochi or Adler itself, you can get there on a comfortable air-conditioned bus.

You can get to the park comfortably and educationally on the Matryoshka excursion bus, which runs every day from Sochi to the Olympic Park. You will not only enjoy a wonderful trip on such a branded bus, but also listen to a tour about the sights of Sochi.

You can also rent a car, a resort map and get to the park yourself; along the way we recommend stopping and taking memorable photos of Sochi’s sights.

What to see

You can spend the whole day in the Olympic Park, and later want to go here again. So, you left Swallow and walked into the park, what do you see? Somewhere in the distance there are some structures, but it is not yet clear what they are; multi-colored stripes go towards them. You can see the rides ahead on the left, and large stands next to you on the right. There are also bicycles for rent, electric cars with trailers ready to take you to the Olympic venues, and souvenir shops.

If you are not in a hurry, it is better to walk and enjoy every little detail. When you walk a little forward, you will understand that the large stands are made for Formula 1 , and the multi-colored stripes are tracks, there are 5 of them in total and each is painted to match the color of one of the Olympic rings. They are wide enough, so there is enough space for electric cars, bicycles, and numerous pedestrians. You will have to walk for quite a long time, and even under the scorching sun, so either choose a cloudy day, or wear a Panama hat, take care of your head.

Be sure to look around so you don't miss anything. Every little thing here has its own story, you can stop and read if you are interested.

After walking around Sochi Park and watching the show of singing fountains, you need to quickly hurry to Lastochka so as not to miss the last flight. Otherwise, you will have to look for a late bus or call a taxi. So the main advice is to follow the Swallows schedule, because this is the best way home.

If you have already visited this amazing place, leave a comment and share your impressions of what you saw.

For dinosaur lovers

Fans of prehistoric times should visit the dinosaur museum. Neither adults nor children will remain indifferent. When the lights are turned off, the hall plunges into darkness and, being in the very center of the jungle, visitors can experience almost primordial horror. In the barely lit thickets, the screams and growls of prehistoric giants are heard, and heads and tails move in a chaotic manner. The lizards may be robotic, but the emotions from what they see are real. All this pleasure costs 350 rubles .
