In 1792, the Kuban lands were granted to the Cossacks by Empress Catherine II - this is how Ekaterinodar, which later became Krasnodar, was founded. The guidebook will tell you about the development of past events. Here we talk about what you can see in Krasnodar today in winter.

Many have heard about the warm climate of Krasnodar. But the trip brings detailed interest: what is winter like in Krasnodar, is it there at all, what does it look like and is it cold? Indeed, in general, the Krasnodar winter is warmer than in other Russian cities.

But it is very changeable, different from year to year. It may come either in November or January, it will last until mid-February or early March, or it may not appear at all. On average, the thermometer stays around +5...-5 °C, but sometimes -15 °C and +15 °C occur. There is sun, cloudiness, and snow. The latter is rather an exception, and the New Year is created by illuminations and fir trees in balls. In general, winter is similar to the off-season in central Russia.

Although streets and parks partially lose their green appearance in winter, many attractions of Krasnodar are accessible at any time of the year. They are located within the boundaries of the historical center, which is convenient for a walking route. Monuments-symbols of the city, ancient merchant architecture, as well as rich museum collections tell its history. City parks will reflect the diversity of local nature. Various cultural and entertainment venues will come in handy for those who come on holiday with children.

As we have already said, the main street of the city ends with another beautiful attraction - singing fountains. Every summer evening, large jets of water, illuminated by neon lighting, soar high into the air. And from Friday to Sunday they gracefully “dance” to classical music. The place is magical! Recommended both for a walk with the family and for a romantic evening. But please note that from November to the end of April the city's fountains stop working.

Monument to Catherine II

The monument to Empress Catherine the Great is one of the main attractions of Krasnodar. It appeared on the centenary of the Kuban lands from the day they were donated by the empress in 1792. Catherine in a robe, with a scepter and orb stands on a high pedestal. At its foot stretched a letter of grant. At the base there are figures of Count Potemkin, three Cossack chieftains and a kobzar with a guide. The monument has been restored because, like many other tsarist ones, it was demolished during the Soviet years. Nearby lies a stone at the site of the founding of the Ekaterinodar fortress.

Another cool place to go in Krasnodar to lie on the grass is the Botanical Garden or Arboretum. Noisy peacocks live here in enclosures and arrogant squirrels in the trees. You can rent a bicycle and ride along the shady alleys.

And not the most obvious place to take a walk and lie around is the German Village. There is a fountain, a small lake with ducks that sometimes come ashore to graze and are not afraid to approach people.

Galitsky Park

So, Krasnodar Park is its official name. About ten years ago there was the outskirts of the city and the field, then a stadium appeared - the home arena of the Krasnodar football club, founded by Sergei Galitsky (ex-owner of Magnit). And then a cool place was built around it, which is popularly called Galitsky Park.

Now this is a famous area (if not the most famous, especially among nonresidents) and the main attraction of Krasnodar, definitely the most photographed. There is something here to grab your phone or camera. For example:

  • the stadium resembles the Colosseum, and alien plane trees grow around
  • sculpture “Geolocation” or an inverted drop in the middle of a pond
  • Japanese carp pond
  • art object “Inner Child” of four children’s heads, 700 kg each
  • painting “Victory Red” made of 140 thousand flowers the size of a field
  • an alley of steel dandelions taller than a man
  • Infinity fountain - you can go upstairs to a bowl of water, or you can go inside so that the water flows around

And at the beginning of summer, sage blooms in the park, like in Provence, and in winter all the trees are “overgrown” with garland lights. The list could take a long time, but it’s better to just see all these unusual sights once:

  1. You can do it on your own - at a brisk pace, stopping for a photo, you can walk around it in about two hours.
  2. You can take a tour from a local resident - so that with all the details and interesting things that you can’t google in a hurry (the reviews on it are entirely positive).
  3. Or take note, if you never get to Krasnodar, that a panoramic guide has been published on the park’s website.

The park is huge and continues to be built. You can sit by the water on comfortable chairs or even lie down on sofa benches. There are many playgrounds, swings, and even an artificial sandy beach for children.

Where to stay in Krasnodar

The hotel sector of the regional capital is diverse. Hotels, apartments and guest houses range from 1 to 5 stars, offering both simple rooms for unpretentious guests and fashionable spacious rooms for discerning guests. The cost also varies and allows you to make a choice to suit any budget.
