Wide Balka is a place with beautiful landscapes and the most spacious beaches from Anapa to Novorossiysk. From the center of Novorossiysk to the village is only 9 km. All beaches are of natural origin; human hands have made virtually no changes to them. History of the village
In ancient times, there was a large Greek settlement in this part of the Black Sea coast. Archaeologists discovered a lot of Greek ceramics and ancient tools in the tract. In the early Middle Ages, Genoese fortifications were built at the foot of Mount Amzai. The ruins of their fortresses can be seen here today.
Since the beginning of the last century, the tract began to be used as summer cottages, and in 1908 it was included in the list of Russian climatic resorts. During the Great Patriotic War, Shiroka Balka was occupied by Romanian troops, and when the battles for Malaya Zemlya took place, the territory changed hands many times.
In August 2002, a natural disaster occurred along a long stretch of coastline. The tornadoes that rose above the Black Sea captured large masses of water and struck resort villages. Due to heavy rain, mountain rivers overflowed their banks and flooded the valleys. A huge mudflow passed through Shirokaya Balka, and it suffered more than others. The buildings and infrastructure of the village were almost completely destroyed. The flow of water, stones and mud did not spare even brick buildings. After this disaster, recreation centers and hotels in Shirokaya Balka were rebuilt.
Nature and climate
Shirokaya Balka is located on the Abrau Peninsula and is surrounded by the forested mountains Amzai, Koldun, Sapun and Ostraya. A narrow stream, Chukhabl, flows through the tract. The narrow bottom of the gorge and the presence of many cracks - side tributaries of the Chukhabl - create a vast drainage area covering an area of 20 km².
The surrounding slopes are overgrown with oaks, thujas, pistachios, Pitsunda pines, dwarf trees and several species of relict juniper. The presence of plants listed in the Red Book speaks in favor of the excellent ecology of these places. In addition, the richness of flora gives the climate of the resort village special, healing properties.
The green zone of the Abrau Peninsula is home to deer, elk, roe deer, foxes, jackals, raccoon dogs, wild boars, hares, squirrels, weasels, badgers and forest cats. Many birds live in the crowns of trees and on coastal rocks, and near the shores you can often find Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, Azov dolphins and white-sided dolphins.
Shirokaya Balka belongs to the dry Mediterranean climate zone. Due to the fact that the tract is separated by a chain of mountains, the weather there is significantly different from Novorossiysk. There are no strong northern or northeastern winds in the resort village, but Shirokaya Balka is open to warm winds blowing from the Black Sea.
Most of the precipitation in the village falls during the winter months. At this time of year, the air temperature rarely drops below 0 °C, and the sea does not get colder than +8 °C.
There is always a lot of sun on the coast - 230 days a year. At the height of summer, the air warms up to +28...+32 °C, and the sea temperature reaches +27 °C. The swimming season in Shirokaya Balka begins in May and lasts until October, when the sea water temperature is +19.2 °C.

It is notable for its steep cliffs hanging directly above the pebble strip. In some places their height reaches 90 m. Behind “Priboy” there begins a wild nudist beach, stretching for 1.5 km.
In the vicinity of the village there are several small wild beaches, where those who like to sunbathe and swim alone prefer to relax. The most picturesque of them stretches along a narrow coastal strip towards the village of Myskhako. Striped cliffs rise above it, and you can find small lagoons and convenient places for small tent camps.

From Shirokaya Balka, climbing Mount Amzai (398 m), located in the northeast of the village, is popular. At the foot of this peak, the ruins of an ancient Genoese fortress, built from sandstone blocks, are preserved, and among them a deep well is visible.

How to get there
