Music
As the main musical direction of Baccano! Jazz was chosen - a win-win option, especially considering that jazz music is not used very often in anime. In addition, it fits perfectly into the 1930s atmosphere and matches the Baccano theme! The opening "Gun's & Roses" by Paradise Lunch is simply amazing: a great example of how an opener doesn't need vocals to be catchy and catchy. It’s not for nothing that jazz is called the music of life. In contrast to the opening, the ending Calling performed by Oda Kaori is very lyrical. That rare case when I never wanted to rewind either the opening or the ending. Impressive.
Ratings
Characters – 9.0. A kaleidoscope of colorful characters with a lot of original and memorable personalities.
Plot – 8.0. A non-linear plot, which at first causes bewilderment, but as it develops it develops into a single picture.
Drawing – 8.0. Great character designs with outdated backgrounds and animations by today's standards. But for the level of 2007, the anime looks very decent.
Music – 8.0. Excellent background music with an abundance of jazz compositions, an opening and a lyrical ending that fit the general theme of the anime.
Plot
The series fully lives up to its name. As paradoxical as it may sound, the plot in Baccano! is at the same time the strongest and weakest side of the title. The anime, unlike the light novel, used a non-linear narrative style: the focus constantly moves between three main storylines, taking place in different locations and at different times. On the one hand, this was able to give the story freshness and originality: non-linear storytelling is not very common in the anime industry - of the titles I watched, the only one that immediately comes to mind is Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu , which was broadcast on television in a non-chronological order of episodes. On the other hand, such a manner may seem chaotic to some. In order to fully understand the plot, you need to watch the anime at least twice, but not every viewer will want to waste their time on repeated viewings. The writers took a big risk by deciding to move to a non-linear narrative, and not everyone will appreciate this risk.
View Baccano! can be compared to riding a roller coaster, only the trolley moves not along ascents and descents, but through space and time. And, just like on a real attraction, such a dynamic narrative will make you feel sick at first. Watching the first episodes can be confusing: firstly , because they demonstrate almost the entire range of characters appearing in the series; secondly , the constant movement between storylines looks unusual, especially if you are unfamiliar with the characters, their biography and motives. But it’s worth watching until the middle of the series, and watching it begins to be enjoyable . Disconnected scenes begin to form into a single mosaic - logical and colorful. Personally, I liked watching this.

Characters
In Baccano! Over the course of thirteen episodes, over fifty(!) characters appear, among whom more than a dozen can lay claim to the title of main characters. Normally I would call such an abundance of characters overkill, but, unlike most similar cases, a significant number of characters with a small number of episodes on Baccano! It had virtually no negative impact. And the reason for this is simple: the characters appear in the anime on equal terms , and the time between them is evenly . This little trick allowed us to get rid of many risks: even if one character turned out unsuccessful, his shortcomings would be covered by a dozen other characters who turned out well.
Probably now many will ask the question: “But what about character development? After all, in such a short time it is impossible to pay attention to so many heroes!” Well, you're absolutely right - most of the Baccano characters! there is practically no development. But in this case it was not required. Firstly, because, as I mentioned earlier, the time between them is distributed evenly, and not a single character has time to become boring - the emphasis is constantly shifting from some characters to others. Secondly, because the characters initially turned out to be very bright and original. That is why in thirteen episodes they do not have time to spend all their potential, and throughout the entire series they are still interesting to watch. I don’t know how, but Ryogo Narita manages to come up with decent images on a regular basis. The only drawback is some of the characters, whose backstory in the anime was not touched upon at all.
Character palette in Baccano! really impressive: such a variety of heroes for all colors and tastes is very, very rare. There are psychopaths like Ladd Russo and Claire Stanfield , and cute girls like Ennis and Shane Laforet , and non-standard mafiosi like the constantly crying Jacuzzi Splot , and traditional mafiosi like the Gandor , and... whoever is here! also like to mention the extremely charismatic couple Isaac Dian and Miria Harvent - is have ever seen in anime. A pair of amateur thieves who act as the glue that brings the pieces of the story together. Among other things, they harmoniously bring a much-needed comedic element to the harsh world of gangsters and mafiosi.
