Sights of Perm and excursions in Perm – what to see

The second most popular Ural city, Perm, the industrial capital of the Urals, hospitably welcomes guests with its versatility, abundance of cultural and natural attractions, bright colors of festivals and city holidays.

A walk around Perm is a way to relax spiritually, enrich yourself culturally and spend time actively. Here you can visit many museums, theaters, temples, see architectural monuments, walk along landscaped parks, an embankment, and even take a boat ride on the Kama.

Embankment of the Kama River

The favorite place for walks of Perm residents - the embankment - pleases with its comfortable amenities, the presence of comfortable benches, fragrant flower beds and a delightful view of the river.

Reconstructed in the mid-20th century, the embankment is rich in interesting places. So, you should definitely visit the Statue of Lukyan, who, according to local belief, fulfills cherished wishes. A great place for photography is the six-column rotunda.

Monument to the letter "P"

The city of Perm is associated with another unusual art object - a monument to the letter “P”. Better known as the “Perm Gate,” it was designed by artist Nikolai Polessky and represents the traditional Perm lumberjack occupation of rafting logs along the Kama. The 12-meter-high structure is made of 5,200 spruce logs and looks especially impressive in the evening.

Museum of Contemporary Art PERMM

Opened in 2008, it became the only exhibition complex of this type besides Moscow and St. Petersburg. The museum is developing dynamically and supports young talented authors working with non-standard materials, which include tape, cardboard, and sand. The first building allocated to the museum was the river station built in 1940. Later, the exhibition complex moved to Gagarin Boulevard, into a building with a very interesting layout, the appearance of which immediately sets visitors up for an unusual experience. Employees conduct thematic excursions, lectures, organize traveling exhibitions in other cities, and willingly host guests. The impression of visiting the museum will be very vivid and memorable.

Salty Perm ears

Salt making is another traditional local activity, in honor of which a sculpture was erected. The sculpture waits on Komsomolsky Prospekt for his salt-swollen ears to be rubbed.

This is a kind of symbol of the history of the Perm region - in the 18th century salt deposits were found here, on which a significant part of the local population worked, extracting salt and carrying salty bags on their shoulders. The salt caused irritation on unprotected areas of the skin, especially on the ears. The ears of salt industry workers would swell and turn red - hence the famous Perm salt ears.

Meeting point – City Esplanade

The impressive size of the main square and the venue for all city events is also a must-see all year round. In winter, the interactive site “Festival House” and the Ice Town open here, and in the summer, the Leto-Park amusement park operates on the square.

It’s always interesting here: there are musical fountains, you can attend all sorts of master classes, exhibitions, rollerblade and bicycle rides, and in winter, slide down the ice slides. On the square there is a Walk of Fame with monuments and sculptures dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

Squares, fountains

The first squares on the territory of Perm were formed at the beginning of the 18th century, simultaneously with the laying of the first brick of a copper smelter.

A romantic park in the Motovilikha district with a charming name - the Garden of Eden - is especially loved by guests and residents of the city. A picturesque pond with beautiful bridges, a monument to a rescue dog, an elegant rotunda, a sculpture of a monk - all this makes the Garden of Eden a place for dates and wonderful photo sessions.

Perm architecture

Architecture lovers have something to see in Perm. The Gribushin House, the Merchant Gavrilov House and the Governor's House will delight you with rich decoration. Also in the city there is the Perm Cathedral Mosque, which amazes with its splendor and unusual architecture.

If you wish, you can walk along Sibirskaya Street; there are many ancient buildings built in different styles: the Puppet Theater, the Noble Assembly, the House with a Dome, the Diaghilev Mansion. These buildings are unique not only for their architecture, but also for the history associated with them.

Museum of the History of Motovilikha Plants

The enterprises were opened thanks to V.N. Tatishchev. They became city-forming, eventually turning into the largest metallurgical plants in the Ural region. The production of drilling rigs, road construction equipment, and artillery systems has been established. At the entrance to the museum, visitors are greeted by a real Tsar Cannon.

If you want to get a comprehensive impression of the history of the city’s development, then you should definitely go to Perm on an excursion to the copper mine located on the first floor of the museum complex, look at the welding machine invented by N. G. Slavyanov, see ancient documents and drawings of the early 19th century. The museum was opened in 1976 and consists of exhibition halls and an open area where samples of military equipment that came off the factory’s assembly lines are installed.

Temples of Perm

To touch the shrines, as well as simply relax your soul, you can visit the Peter and Paul Cathedral in Perm, the Ascension (Feodosevskaya) Church, and the Holy Trinity Stephen Monastery.

On the snow-capped peak of the White Mountain not far from the city is the St. Nicholas Monastery. The Belogorsk monastery offers a picturesque view of the Ural Mountains.

In the premises of the Transfiguration Cathedral there is an art gallery with a unique collection of wooden sculptures.

Art object “Happiness is just around the corner”

The idea of such a positive art object came to the mind of the artist Boris Matrosov. The huge inscription was brought to the city 11 years ago for a landscape festival. Residents were delighted with the optimistic phrase , so the object remained to decorate the city.

Art object “Happiness is just around the corner”

Usually tourists come here first. People often take pictures near such a business card. The facility is located on the embankment, so after visiting it you will have a pleasant walk.

Tickle your nerves...

Thrill-seekers should definitely visit the Perm Tower of Death. At first glance, an ordinary building is shrouded in terrifying legends. According to legend, ghosts live here. Permians believe that the bodies of builders are walled up in the Tower, and that the cursed building is responsible for many innocent deaths.

People are sure that once there was a Stalinist prison here, where prisoners were shot. The underground passage led straight to the cemetery...

In fact, all these rumors have little to do with the real history of this popular place, but there is still something sinister in its history.
