This year, more than ever, regional tourism began to develop. Residents of the Ulyanovsk region and guests began to increasingly travel to the Sengileevskie Mountains National Park. A columnist for the website “Main News of Ulyanovsk” visited a unique natural site and admired the regional beauty.

A little information: The Sengileevskie Mountains have been a Russian national park since 2022. More than 80 species of fungi and more than 800 species of plants are registered on its territory, more than 50 species of mammals, more than 140 species of birds, 17 species of amphibians and reptiles, about 1,500 species of insects, and about 30 species of fish live in reservoirs. At the same time, a number of plant and animal species are under special protection and are listed in the Red Book of Russia and the Ulyanovsk region.

Before you set off to conquer the Sengileevskie Mountains, you need to obtain a special permit, which, by the way, is issued in 1 minute and instantly sent to your email address. You can obtain the document online on the national park website www.npsenggory.ru. The service is free.

Also, before the trip, you should choose comfortable shoes and take a hat with you (if it’s a sunny day - author’s note), you can take binoculars with you to watch the marmots. Afterwards, you can safely hit the road, the end point of which will be the national park.

Probably the most famous and frequently photographed place in the Sengileevskie Mountains National Park is Arbuginskaya Mountain. It is located right on the shore of the Kriushinsky Bay, where the Arbuga River flows into it. The most convenient way to get to the place by car is through Shilovka. You need to get to the church and turn left. The asphalt road leads to a small factory, which you need to go around on the right. Here the “crushed stone” begins, along which you will need to drive about 10 kilometers. It is from the Arbuginskaya Mountain that magnificent views of the Kriushinsky Bay and Arbuga open up. On the other bank there is the Kriushinsky shipyard and the settlement itself.

If we return to history, then according to some evidence, this is where the city of the Golden Horde Arbukhim was located, however, there is very little information about this. According to the Dutch traveler Jan Struys, who visited these places in 1668, he saw the ruins of Arbukhim, the city was about 100 meters long and 86.4 meters wide. On the side of the field it was fenced with a rampart and a ditch. The famous German traveler Adam Olearius, who visited here in 1636, also mentions this city.

They say that Arbukhim was founded in the 13th century by the Mongolian prince Arig-Buga, the grandson of the Great Genghis Khan, and later the city was ravaged and burned by Tamerlane.

So this place is famous not only for its magnificent landscapes, but also for its rich history.

The total area of ​​the Sengileevskie Mountains National Park is more than 43 hectares. Of course, it will not be possible to see the entire territory in one visit... Therefore, many tourists determine the route in advance.

The ecological trail “In the Footsteps of the Marmot” is very popular; it is located 50 km from the city, landmarks are the village of Tushna, the Mylnikov spring. From the city on the road to Bolshie Klyuchishchi, then turn to Sengilei. You will need to pass the village of Tushna, and before going up the mountain there will be a sign “Ecological trail” on the left. There is a small parking lot where you can leave your car.

The 6 km long ecological trail runs along the slopes of chalk hills, which are the habitat of the marmot.

Along the eco-trail you can not only go “In the footsteps of the marmot” and admire these animals, but also, following special signs, go to the hills, where a beautiful view of the surrounding area opens up.

There are several ways to get to the Sengileevskie Mountains National Park:

1) By regular buses going to Sengilei, Tushna or Shilovka. However, it is worth considering here that if transport takes you to the ecological trail “In the Footsteps of the Marmot,” then you will have to walk about 10 kilometers to Arbuginskaya Mountain.

2) There are one-day weekend tours to the national park. Their cost is around 900-1000 rubles.

3) You can get to the Sengileevsky Mountains and their attractions by private transport.

There are sources of drinking water on the territory - springs. You cannot take water from the Volga, it is unsuitable for drinking and cooking; you can take water from small rivers in the territory, but only if it is boiled. There is no need to be afraid of encountering dangerous mammals.

You can stay for several days in the recreational area of ​​the national park. An equipped place for setting up a tent will cost 100 rubles. per day, and a gazebo for outdoor recreation - 1 thousand rubles. for the first 4 hours, then 100 rubles. for each subsequent hour. The lack of camping equipment is not a reason to give up a few days in nature. In the Sengileevskie Mountains park there is rental: a tent for an adult will cost 300 rubles. per day, for a child - 100 rubles. per day.

On the border of the park there is a glamping site “Hills”, located near the village. Tushna. This is a well-equipped, modern outdoor camp with soft beds, heating and air conditioning. In the area of ​​the village of Old Bely Yar, on the bank of the river there is a camping site “Maple Grove”.

In the town of Sengilei, which borders the National Park, there is a small hotel “Sengileevskie Gory” with 6 rooms. If you are not ready to spend the night in a tent, this option with a shower and kitchen will suit you. There are sanatoriums and recreation centers on the other side of the Volga.

Routes along the Sengileevsky Mountains

You can go on day hikes in the Sengileevskie Mountains. All routes are easy, so you don't need any special equipment. The main thing that a traveler needs to do is to take into account his individual needs for comfortable clothing, shoes, food, drink and medical supplies.

The first ecological trail through the protected area stretches near the village of Tushna. The 6 km long “Following the Marmot” route has been open since 2019. Park workers have equipped the path with signs, observation platforms and information stands. During a walk from April to October, you can observe the life of the inhabitants of the steppe - marmots. In the coming years, the equipment of other trails will be completed, in particular, to Arbuginskaya Mountain and Grannoe Ukho. Since the mountains in the park are formed from sedimentary rocks, it is worth remembering that they are easily destroyed, so it is undesirable to be on the edge of cliffs.
