What sights to see in Novosibirsk and where to go for tourists, photos and descriptions of beautiful and interesting places

The large northern population center, which is the third most populous, is often perceived as a city for study and work, but not for recreation. This is completely misleading. In addition to the amazingly rich nature of the region, a traveler can look at many monuments, visit unique nature reserves and cultural sites, and get a lot of different kinds of impressions. In the article we will tell you about the main attractions that Novosibirsk has for tourists, what to see in the city, the most beautiful and interesting places.

Main attractions

First, let's talk about two streets where every guest is sure to visit. It is here that the most picturesque photographs were taken, which well convey the atmosphere of the entire million-plus population.

Red Avenue

This is one of the key highways; a huge flow of cars and people passes here every day. Large shops are also located here and there is a convenient alley for walking. A kind of Champs Elysees, but in Russia. It is convenient to travel here by metro (4 stations open onto the largest street), but to get to know the city it is worth walking and at least briefly seeing the hundred-apartment building, the Chapel of St. Nicholas, the A. Nevsky Cathedral, the Opera and Ballet Theater and other amazing buildings. This is where you should start your full day excursion.

Embankment

On the coast of the Ob River there is a wide road for pedestrians, paved with paving stones. Events are often held here and there is a beautiful view of the fireworks being launched. There is also a light fountain, a monument to Alexander III, who issued a decree on the construction of a bridge across the river. There are bicycle paths on the territory and a point for renting sports equipment.

Red Avenue

The main street of the city passes through many famous attractions. It is the final metro station, Zaeltsovskaya, as well as Krasny Prospekt. You can walk along it from beginning to end: on both sides there are ancient buildings, including residential “Stalin” buildings, theaters, museums, and universities. This is one of the most equipped and beautiful highways in the city, which does not fall asleep for a minute.

Red Avenue

Important! While walking, you can turn onto perpendicular streets - they hide unusual courtyards and other attractions. So, behind the House of Public Services there is a very beautiful courtyard with carved benches (Krasny Prospekt, 50).

Here and there there are themed bars, small cafes and ultra-modern restaurants, the average bill of which reaches 3-4 thousand rubles. And in the Stolle pie shop you can plunge into the atmosphere of the late 19th century and eat delicious pastries with different fillings.

You don't need money to walk along Krasny Prospekt. But if you plan to visit cafes, shops and boutiques, then it is better to take with you an amount that you can spend - at least 1000 rubles for two for light snacks.

How to get there : Zaeltsovskaya metro station, Gagarinskaya metro station, Krasny Prospekt metro station, Ploshchad Lenina metro station, as well as additional branches: Pokryshkina metro station.

Old railway bridge truss

When the Trans-Siberian Railway was built, this section of the bridge structure was the only possibility of railway communication across the Ob River. 100 years later, a new, more modern one was built, and the old one was dismantled, but not completely. One of the sites has become a monument that is being looked after - they have illuminated it, created a park nearby, and fireworks are set off once a year.

Bugrinsky Bridge

It is modern, built in 2014, so its appearance, purpose, and capacity correspond to the era. In addition to its direct function, its appearance is fascinating – the red arch looks great in photographs. There are paths for pedestrians on both sides.

Airport

Novosibirsk Tolmachevo International Airport is the largest in Siberia in terms of passenger traffic (5.9 million passengers per year as of 2018). Famous historical places of Novosibirsk

The city on the Ob was built a long time ago, but reached its maximum prosperity during the leadership of the country by Stalin. Therefore, many objects date back to the 20th century, and only a number of temples were built at an earlier time.

Cathedral in the name of Alexander Nevsky

The monumental building of 1899 has similarities in its design with the famous Church of the Mother of God on Vasilyevsky Island. The construction was supervised by N. M. Tikhomirov. In Soviet times, they wanted to blow up the building, but only a few parishes collapsed. Then they began to use it as a newsreel studio. Now, as before, many Orthodox believers come here. The cathedral is located on Sovetskaya street, 1A, open from 8 am to 7 pm.

Ascension Cathedral

More modern, but no less significant, this church is a cathedral; the main services of the entire diocese are held here. Its more than 100-year history is distinguished by the fact that it worked almost continuously, since during the Second World War, the Soviet government reopened it to parishioners and did not close it after that. Location – Sovetskaya, 91. Opening hours: Mon-Sat 8:00–19:00; Sun 7:00–19:00.

Monument of Glory

The memorial complex is dedicated to the participants of the Great Patriotic War. It consists of the Eternal Flame, a monument to a grieving mother and five pylons on which the names of fallen soldiers are carved. Located in the park of glory.

Chapel of St. Nicholas

A small chapel is located in the middle of the main street of Novosibirsk - Krasny Prospekt. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12-00 to 17-00. Built in 1914 in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov imperial dynasty.

Novosibirsk metro bridge

A long bridge connects the banks of the Ob. It consists of 7 spans and runs next to a regular bridge. The total length is 2200 m. You cannot get directly onto it, but you can experience unusual emotions if you ride in a metro car from Studencheskaya to the River Station (or vice versa). This is the longest span of the Novosibirsk metro.

  • How to get there : metro station Studencheskaya, metro station Rechnoy vokzal.
  • Cost : you only need to pay for the metro ride.

Other famous places in the city

If you have already visited all the major architectural sites, natural scenic spots, and also attended several performances and listened to the opera, it’s time to walk the streets and look at the monuments.

Lenin Square

It is located in the very center of the city, in the middle there is a classic version of the bronze leader of the world proletariat, and around the circumference there are buildings with more than 100 years of history: the City Trade Building, the Business House, the State Bank, the Regional Potrebsoyuz, the Opera and Ballet Theater.

Restaurant "Neighbors"

Are you hungry? Step into one of the most fashionable places in the city. The flavor of an ancient hut has been completely recreated here - wooden furniture, wooden ceilings and floors, Russian folk food.

Let's sum it up

Novosibirsk is the largest city located beyond the Urals. His age barely exceeds 100 years, but the pace of development is amazing in its speed. This is the economic, cultural, transport and, of course, scientific center of Siberia, which has rightfully earned the title of capital.

The greatest concentration of attractions is located in the central districts of the city: Central, Zheleznodorozhny, Zaeltsovsky. But Akademgorodok, the scientific center of Novosibirsk, where the most modern research, educational and economic institutions are located, deserves special attention.

Many people know that Novosibirsk is the center of Russian scientific thought. Therefore, in Academgorodok, near the Institute of Cytology and Genetics, a monument was erected in honor of those animals that most often serve as little helpers for scientists. A mouse in glasses knits a DNA chain, which symbolizes science in the hands of man.

Sculptural composition “Purchase Scene”

On Michurina, 12, you can see an interesting frozen three-dimensional picture from Eduard Dobrovolsky - a woman seller lures a man with goods, and the simpleton does not notice how a smart dog pulls sausages from his bag.

Traffic light monument

Another interesting monument is located at the intersection of Sibrevkoma and Serebrennikovskaya streets. The place is easily accessible from the famous Hundred Apartment Building. In 2006, the country celebrated the 70th anniversary of the traffic police structure, and therefore this facility was opened. The location was chosen for a reason, since it was here, near the ancient educational institution, that the first traffic controller was erected - he switched manually, but was very helpful in regulating the flow of traffic, especially when children returned from the lyceum.
