General information and history of the city
Berezovsky is located in the Kuznetsk Basin, in the interfluve of the Barzas and Shurap rivers (Ob basin), 27 km north of Kemerovo. Railway station Biryulinskaya and Zaboishchik.
Berezovsky
The village of Berezovsky arose in 1949 during the construction of the Berezovskaya mine; It most likely got its name from the abundance of birch trees in the area.
The city of Berezovsky was formed in 1965 from the villages of Kurganovka, Berezovsky and Oktyabrsky.

The city is located near the M53 highway (to Mariinsk, Krasnoyarsk and further to the east), but this does not give the city any advantages.
Entry from the P-255 highway, also known as M53
Few people know that a century ago Kolchak’s army passed through the city, retreating to the east. They passed through the village of Dmitrievka, where they still find various objects - from coins to weapons. One city resident has a Maxim machine gun in his garden, a living witness and participant in those events. In history, this transition is called the Great Siberian Ice March. In the city, few people study it, as well as the history of the region (there are enthusiasts and history buffs).

Attractions
The population of Berezovsky is about 57 thousand people. Berezovsky is a satellite city of Yekaterinburg . It is only a few kilometers away from the Ural capital. Every now and then projects arise to unite Berezovsky (along with Verkhnyaya Pyshma and Aramil ) into one agglomeration - Greater Yekaterinburg . However, almost all of the residents of Berezovsky are categorically against the loss of their independence.
Unfortunately, most of the stone pre-revolutionary buildings in Berezovsky were lost - nothing remained of the gold panning plant, the factory office building and the house of the factory manager were also lost. In the 1930s, the main temple of the city, the Prophet Elijah, . Many other buildings were added to or rebuilt.

However, the city has many interesting attractions. We will introduce you to them.
Monument "Miner's Glory"
A two-meter figure of a miner, cast in bronze, mounted on a stone pedestal. The site is framed by an improvised vault of the underground face. According to the authors, the miner controls the drilling rig. The industrial unit is also coated with a non-ferrous alloy. The opening of the Miner's Glory monument became a citywide event and was timed to coincide with Miner's Day , which is celebrated on August 25 throughout the country.
The idea of the “Mining Glory” monument belongs to the young Yekaterinburg sculptors-monumentalists Alexander and Dmitry Borodin .
The craftsmen deliberately made the inner surface of the underground “tunnel” not round, but angular, as it should be in a real mine. The total height of the Miner's Glory monument reaches five meters. Located on the guest route, the monument involuntarily attracts the attention of residents and guests of the city with its size.
Berezovsky Museum of the History of the Gold and Platinum Industry of the Urals
The Gold Museum has existed in Berezovsky for more than forty years. It was created in 1970 on the initiative of local historian Sylvia Openkina , since then the museum has developed, changed names, buildings, and added more exhibits. Several years ago, the dilapidated museum building required serious reconstruction and was closed for renovation. Work on the creation of the updated Gold Museum took more than four years and required significant investment.
There are a total of five halls in the museum, which made it possible to roughly divide the entire history of gold mining into thematic sections. The first hall talks about gold in general. The second is dedicated to the discovery of Erofei Markov and the beginning of the gold mining industry in the Urals in the 18th century. The discoveries of Lev Brusnitsyn and the life of miners of the 19th century are presented in the third hall. The fourth one virtually immerses you in a mine, where, thanks to special effects, the shadows of miners appear. Finally, the last room is entirely dedicated to the history of the city of Berezovsky and modern gold mining, which continues in the city to this day.

Museum-mine "Russian Gold"
There is another museum in the city on the basis of the training mine of the mine rescue unit. This museum is private, created by Berezovsky’s patriot Valery Lobanov , who rented and renovated the mine, placed samples of mining tools in it and placed figures of workers - convicts and peasants, caretakers, etc. Excursionists here are given helmets with flashlights. You need to keep in mind that it is always cold in the mine (+5 degrees), so in the warm season it is worth taking warm clothes.
If desired, the excursion can be continued on the banks of the Berezovka River , where tourists are offered to try panning for gold. The gold along the river has, of course, all been washed away over the past centuries, but nice crystals of “false gold” - pyrite - can be found without difficulty.

Historical square
historical square
in the city center . Here you can see the very river Berezovka , lined with stone. True, there is almost no water in it, and sometimes it dries out completely. There are beautiful bridges across the river in several places.
The historical square remembers the solemn and rebellious days when troops lined up, working people were rounded up, discontent flared up and was suppressed. Decrees on rewards and punishments were read here.
Serious reconstruction of the Historical Square began only at the end of May 2007. As a result of the work carried out, the canal embankment was lined with paving slabs, the walls behind the monument to Erofei Markov , and the bridges were restored. A chiselled metal fence appeared along the perimeter of the park. And already in June, in celebration of the city day, the opening of the renovated square took place. Today this is one of the vacation spots for Berezovka residents.
There is also a monument to the discoverer of gold Erofey Markov , made in 1973 by the sculptors Zaitsev .
Monument to Erofey Markov
On August 25, 1973, a monument to the discoverer of ore gold, Erofei Markov, . This is the first and so far the only such monument in the country.
Six years ago, the idea of reconstructing the monument to Markov : to make a cast-iron bas-relief with an area of 80 square meters behind it, depicting 36 figures of miners and prospectors. The project of a historical complex with the working title “History of Gold Mining in Russia” was presented for discussion by Berezovka residents. The author was the famous Ural sculptor Konstantin Grunberg .
However, it didn’t work out this time either. Now Erofei Markov stands alone against the backdrop of a concrete wall. The monument is regularly looked after, and fresh flowers periodically appear in front of it.
House of merchant Gabriel Rozhkov
Nearby, on the corner of Lenin and Revolyutsionnaya streets, stands the former house of the merchant Gavriil Rozhkov . The stone house was built by the merchant Rozhkov in 1891, made in the classical style. On January 26, 1918, Berezovsky's first cinema . In the 1930s, the building was given to a school, and later the city administration was located here. Today, this building houses the military registration and enlistment office.

Sculptural composition "Courtyard"
The author of the sculptures was a graduate of the Ural State Academy of Architecture and Art Alexey Samolov . The figures are made of sheet iron, each consisting of hundreds of parts. The sculptures are made entirely by hand.
A student with his hand raised up, a little boy and a man with a traveling bag are sitting at the table. The domino table was also supplemented with some attributes. A stick of loaf of bread, a jar of kefir and a “shabby” fish appeared on it. According to the plan, a “fish” situation is also played in dominoes. The total weight of all installed heroes is about five centners.

Monument to Kirov
Not far from the Yuzhnaya mine there is a park, on the territory of which there is a monument to S.M. Kirov . During the Soviet Union, the mine administration bore the name of this politician. a sculpture of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain was also installed in this park .
Victory Park
Victory Park was opened in 1975 (originally called “Friendship Park”). It is located between the former Druzhba cinema , the city administration, the stadium near the youth sports school and the city cemetery.
Flowers are planted in the park in the summer, there are also many benches in the park where you can rest, there is a children's playground, and military equipment is installed: guns and tanks, which children enjoy climbing on. Combat samples were collected from various military units in the Urals . In the summer of 2015, military exhibits were moved to the entrance of Victory Park , and a fountain was located in their place.
In addition, on one of the alleys there are memorial stones listing Berezovka residents - participants in the Victory Parade , as well as Berezovka residents who died during hostilities in Afghanistan and Chechnya .
Monument to Brusnitsyn
In the fall of 1814, Lev Ivanovich Brusnitsyn discovered the first industrial gold placer in Russia and subsequently improved the technology for extracting placer gold. The innovations of his technology spread widely throughout Russia, stepped overseas, to North America and other lands.
The grand opening of the monument to the famous fellow countryman, foreman of the Berezovsky gold mines, took place on October 7 in Victory Park .
Art object “NOW”
There might not have been any
unusual letters in Berezovsky Yekaterinburg , “Shestye” was supposed to appear in the capital of the Middle Urals, on the Iset embankment in the area of the keyboard monument . Then they abandoned this. From an idea - not from “Now” . So it moved to Historical Square .
Technologically, these are concrete white letters cast in the same font that residents and guests of the homeland of gold see at the entrance to the city near the word “Berezovsky” . Perhaps in the future they will be painted, and lighting is also expected. Each letter is 80 cm wide, one and a half meters high, and the inscription itself will stretch across the square for ten meters.
The meaning of this interesting neologism is that it is impossible to be happy if you live in the past or the future; that you need to consciously and joyfully live every minute of life, and the best time is now.
Sculpture "Mother and Child"
Opposite the maternity hospital building in the center of a small park, a new sculpture “Mother and Child” . The ceremonial event, during which the white cloth was removed from the monument, took place on the afternoon of May 1, 2022.
Fyodor Petrov worked in one of the creative workshops in Yekaterinburg . The concrete sculpture, covered with bronze, stands on a pedestal 70 cm high. The figure of the mother is human height, 180 cm.
The hospital management plans to plant flower beds, apple trees near the new landmark, and eventually improve the entire area near the maternity hospital.

Art object “Tree of Wishes”
The “Wish Tree” appeared near the Gold Museum (4 Kommuny Street). Initially, there was an idea that the wish tree would appear next to “Schaste” , but then a new place was found for the new monument.
To make the “Wish Tree,” blacksmith Igor Yudin used ancient iron, which previously “breathed” in other objects. The object is forged entirely by hand, artistic welding is used.
Symbolic figures are placed on the tree - mushrooms, snails, horseshoes, a spider and a dragon - he is the most important here and is called the guardian. Each item carries a certain symbolism. Visitors will be able to read information about this on the instruction sign. From it, for example, it will become known that the dragon is a symbol of power, wealth and abundance, snails can bring youth and health, and mushrooms personify the image of the family.
According to the legend of the creators, in order to make a wish, you need to focus on it and touch one of the elements of the tree, for example, rub a leaf. Another rule is not to say out loud what you want. The chances will increase if you make a small donation to the tree by throwing a coin into the piggy bank at its foot. The first “offerings” were handed over on the opening day to Berezovsky animal rights activists for a good cause. Blacksmith Igor Yudin warned against making bad wishes that could harm someone - such wishes will not come true.

Memorial sign on the site of the first Soviet mine and observation deck
A sign in the form of a hollow five-pointed star was installed in memory of the first Soviet-era mine near the bus station. For a long time there was a waste heap with a good observation deck near the mine, but it was recently torn down, and the territory itself will most likely be given over for development.

House of the merchant Boytsova
The house was built by order of the merchant Boitsova at the end of the 19th century. The house was originally built as a profitable house - until the revolution, various trading shops were located here. During the civil war, Kolchak’s counterintelligence settled in the house for a short time. , Berezovsky Food Supply was located here .

Memorial obelisk at the site of the discovery of the first gold
Near Berezovsky , on the Rezhevsky tract (at the 19th kilometer), there is a memorial obelisk at the site of the discovery by Erofey Markov . It contains the words of M. Lomonosov : “So, there should be no doubt about the wealth of all kinds of minerals in the Russian regions.” This monument was opened in 1973 in honor of the 225th anniversary of the find.
Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The stone church was built in 1868-74 on the site of a wooden one. During the Soviet regime, the temple was abandoned, although it was not formally closed. In 1992, the Assumption Church was returned to believers.
The dying architectural monument of the 19th century was restored by local entrepreneurs. Recently, a “spiritual center” building was erected next to it, more reminiscent of another church. Behind them is a large cemetery containing 19th-century headstones. The most interesting is the Eristov-Koksharov cemetery rotunda , which is an architectural monument of the 19th century.

Temple of the Holy Martyr John the Warrior
The Church of the Holy Martyr John the Warrior greets everyone who enters the city of Berezovsky . It is so organic in this place that in a short time it has become a spiritual symbol and calling card of a small Ural city.
Construction of the temple began on August 20, 2006. And the first service took place on August 12, 2009, on the day of remembrance of the holy martyr John the Warrior Vikenty of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye . Since 2011, the temple opened its doors to parishioners, and services began to be held regularly.
The temple, built in the Russian-Byzantine style, resembles an ancient Russian prince. The dome with the cross is his military helmet. Despite its small size, the temple does not seem small. The lightness and slenderness of the forms give it severity and solemnity. The chief architect of the temple project is Sergei Bartov .

Aigul Mosque
The official name of the mosque is “Aigul (Moon Flower)” . People call it “Altyn mosque” , i.e. translated from Tatar - “Golden Mosque” , due to the fact that the city of Berezovsky is the city of the first Russian gold, by analogy with the “Copper Mosque” of Verkhnyaya Pyshma .
The Berezovsky mosque was built in the traditional Tatar style. It is characterized by the location of the minaret above the entrance group and a two- or hipped roof instead of a dome. The main prayer hall has an octagonal shape.
In a separate building, the educational and administrative complex, there is a multifunctional hall, ablution rooms for men and women, and a boiler room. On the attic floor there are cozy classrooms, where on Sundays classes are held for adults and children to study Arabic script and the fundamentals of Islam. In a separate house - a summer kitchen - on holidays, aromatic pilaf is prepared in a huge cauldron for treating guests. In addition to classes and services, various competitions on Islamic themes or, for example, competitions of national Tatar dishes are held.

The first panel house
Few people know about this attraction. The fact is that the first large-panel residential building in the history of the USSR and Europe was built Berezovsky It appeared in December 1945. Builders from all over the country came to see this house. For comparison, the first large-panel house in Moscow appeared only three years later - in 1948. This building in Berezovsky still stands today, but has neither the status of a historical monument nor a commemorative plaque.

Path of health
The pedestrian route Health Path in the city forest has become a kind of calling card of Berezovsky ; hundreds of residents walk along it every day, despite the weather. It is a small forest park at the intersection of Gagarin and Sportivnaya streets. There are various sculptures on the Trail: “Elk”, “Mowgli”, “Shere Khan”, “Wolves”. There is a children's playground.
Berezovsky Sands
A very interesting place is located on the northern outskirts of the city - between Berezovsky and the Pyshma River . Here, in the center of the Ural Mountains , you can see a piece of real desert. This place is usually called simply – Sands . The sand left over from gold mining comes here through pipes from the mines. In the center there are two lakes with clear bluish water. True, swimming in them is dangerous for health due to the high content of copper and other hazardous substances. From the dumps you can see the dredged Pyshma River.
The easiest way to enter the test site is from the northeast, where there is no fence and the road goes right to the sands. South of Peskov there is a deposit of crocoite , a rare bright red mineral (lead chromate), discovered in 1766 right here in the Urals . Later, the metal chromium was isolated from crocoite for the first time in history. Due to its value, the crocoite pit is protected from outsiders by a special booth. There is talk about creating a museum there, but for now all the crocoite is being taken to collections or sold off.
GPS coordinates: 56.933473 60.812475
Ushakovsky quarry
The grader road from which you left to the crocoite pit runs along the Sands and crosses the Pyshma River . Soon it bifurcates, and the left road through an unauthorized dump takes you to the Ushakovsky quarry . You can still find stones here: rauchtopaz, galena, fahlore, azurite, arsenates, limonite after pyrite and just pyrite.
The deposit was discovered at the beginning of the 19th century. At first the mines were struck, then they began to mine the rock by open-pit mining, which was cheaper, although more expensive compared to placer gold. The quarry was developed until the 80s of the 19th century.
About three hundred meters downstream of the river is the Golden Hill . They say (probably this is another local legend) that when the dredge passed along the river past it and extracted the gold washed from the hill into the river, they washed up three to four times more than in other areas.

Population
The city's population continues to decline. If in the early 90s about 52 thousand people lived in Bereza, as the locals call it, then in 2015 the number of Berezovka residents officially decreased to 47 thousand. There is a noticeable trend for young people to leave the city. As elsewhere, school graduates go to Tomsk, Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Novosibirsk, and some go to Moscow with St. Petersburg, where they then settle in new places, form families and are in no hurry to return.
The main increase in population comes from migration from neighboring villages, villages, as well as visitors from Kazakhstan.
Almost the entire adult population works in mines, open-pit mines and related market segments.

Climate and ecology
The climate, as throughout the entire territory of Kuzbass, is sharply continental, cold in winter, sometimes up to 30 and below, in summer it is hot over +30 (at times). And so, in summer the temperature averages 20 degrees Celsius.
Recently, the climate on the planet and in the region has been bringing its own surprises: with snow in June and thaws in February. If earlier throughout the winter the temperature was below 20 degrees, and February was freezing, and the snow began to melt only at the end of March or beginning of April, now at the end of February it is around zero, and a week later - minus 20. In general, we live happily!
Snow in summer!
The ecological situation is more or less rosy. Pollution mainly comes from transport. There are not many enterprises within the city limits, they are all at a fairly large distance, but of those that are close:
- City boiler house - heated with coal, hence the emissions of soot into the air, there is a regular layer of dirt on the windows, children are not recommended to chew on icicles, because there are black inclusions of soot and combustion products,
- Berezovskaya Central Processing Plant is located not far from the city, sometimes the wind blows in coal drying products.
All waste accumulates around enterprises (these are processing plants, mines and open-pit mines), the snow there is white only in the first minutes after it falls.
Districts and real estate
The city is not big, therefore there are not many districts. The city consists of 3 main districts:
- Village of the Yuzhnaya mine (Yuzhnaya, Yuzhanka),
- Berezovskaya mine village (Beryozovka),
- Central microdistrict (Mikrashka, center). At the same time, Mikrashka consists of several mini-districts: Oktyabrsky, 4th microdistrict (Chetverka), Volkova, VGSCH, Solnechny, Fedorovka.
Map of Berezovsky districts
Real estate prices, as throughout the country in small towns: 1st - about 1 million rubles, 2nd - 1.5-2 million rubles, 3rd - from 1.8 million rubles. These are prices for resale, a little more expensive for new buildings. Houses are sold from 500 thousand rubles, depending on condition. Due to the “crises,” housing prices fell slightly. More expensive real estate in the Center, on Berezovka and Yuzhnaya, the price is slightly lower (200 thousand).

There is nowhere to go except one cafe, a movie at the City Center for Creativity and Leisure (GCCLD), children can be sent to a music school or art school. There are enough kindergartens, as well as schools.
Secondary vocational education can be obtained at the Vocational Lyceum (cook, electrician, driver and some others). For higher education you need to go to Kemerovo.

Where to go next?
Ekaterinburg
From Berezovsky it is most logical to return to Yekaterinburg . On the way there will be Lake Shartash , where it is customary to relax and swim in the summer. You can also take a bus to the Rezhevsky tract , along which you can go to the ancient Ural cities of Rezh and Alapaevsk . With a car, it is not difficult to continue your journey around the outskirts of Yekaterinburg : for example, to Verkhnyaya Pyshma , where the largest museum of military equipment in the Urals is located.
Staropyshminsk
Author of the photo: Olga Aleksandrovna
Kostenko Staropyshminsk stands on the Pyshma River , 9 km east of Berezovsky . This is an old Ural village, founded in the 1660s. and for a long time known as the Pyshminsky plant for the gold mining industry of the same name. The only old building in the village is the Sretenskaya Church (1882-87) - a picturesque monument of neo-Russian style. Walking 200 m to the east, crossing the river on a pedestrian bridge and climbing to its high southern bank, you will get to the church under construction in honor of the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “Softening Evil Hearts” on Mount Vysokoy . It has good views of the Pyshma and the village. The high bank itself hides the Staropyshminskie rocks, .
Mount Leafy
Ski complex “Mount Listvennaya”, 25th km of the EKAD (8 km from Berezovsky). closest to Yekaterinburg offers 4 slopes, an ice skating rink, snow tubing and summer entertainment.
Beloyarsk reservoir and nuclear power plant
The Beloyarsk Reservoir is one of the most popular places for recreation and fishing. This largest reservoir in the Sverdlovsk region was created on the Pyshma River to provide water to the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant .
Enterprises and work
The city lives by coal mining; Berezovsky’s main employer is the Chernigovets open-pit mine. Miners' salaries are not high. The highest paid workers are excavator operators and BelAZ drivers - about 40t. R. and higher, the rest receive about 20-25 thousand rubles, despite the fact that a regional coefficient of 30% applies. Miners have a salary in the range of 20-30 thousand rubles, mining sites earn more, and those on the surface - maybe 15 thousand rubles.
Among the enterprises, we will highlight the large ones - Chernigovets, the Berezovskaya and Pervomaiskaya mines, the Severnaya processing plant, the Berezovskaya central processing plant, the Barzassky open-pit mine, and Rover.
Berezovskaya mine, management
Cherniga, Administrative and Household Plant (ABK)
But the main scourge of Kuzbass is the SDS - the Siberian Business Union. This structure has bought up the entire region and is actively establishing its own rules. The labor code is often not respected, overtime is not paid, and if you stay for dinner, you will only be given time off for the number of hours you spent at work. Stayed for 1.30, they will give you 1.30, and it doesn’t matter that you have to wait another 2 and a half hours for the service bus. Reviews about this organization are negative, but people have nowhere to go, because there is no other work in the city. So they adapt, or even change for the worse (set-ups are not uncommon, denunciation is practiced and valued).
That’s why many are fleeing Kuzbass, because in another city in the region there is the same SDS or its “daughter”.
How to get to the city of Berezovsky?
Berezovsky is located 13 kilometers northeast of Yekaterinburg . Getting there by car is not difficult.
Buses and minibuses go to Berezovsky Yekaterinburg . Almost all of them depart from the Vostochnaya bus station at the intersection of Lenin Avenue and the railway (Pervomaiskaya railway platform).
