The city of Lesnoy is part of the urban district "City of Lesnoy" - a closed administrative-territorial entity. This urban district also includes the villages of Elkino , Taezhny , Bushuevka , Chashchavita . The total area of ​​the urban district "City of Lesnoy" is 360.7 sq. km. The number of residents in the city district reaches more than 50 thousand people.

of Lesnoy is located in the north of the Sverdlovsk region , 254 km from Yekaterinburg . The unique appearance of the city is made up of the picturesque taiga forests with which it is surrounded.

In 1947, on the site where the city is now located, the government of the country decided to build a scientific enterprise for electromagnetic isotope separation. Construction proceeded very quickly - the industrial buildings of the future workshops were erected in the shortest possible time, the operation of the equipment was established, and the first products were produced. Construction of a village begins next to the enterprise.

People from various social strata contributed to the construction and development of the village: military personnel, young specialists and graduates of universities and technical schools, workers from neighboring settlements, representatives of the country's scientific elite. A year later, the first wooden houses appeared in the village, and by the early 1950s, the village had already developed social infrastructure, including: a kindergarten, a secondary school, a medical unit, a youth club and others. In 1954, the village received the status of a city, and from this year it began to be called Sverdlovsk-45 .

For 40 years, the city's activities were kept in the strictest confidence, and the city itself was not even displayed on maps.

The closed administrative-territorial formation Sverdlovsk-45 its official geographical name, familiar to modern people - “Lesnoy City” in 1994. Two years later, Lesnoy becomes the center of the municipality. And since 2006, “Lesnoy City” has become an urban district.

ZATO Lesnoy has a developed social infrastructure.

The leading institution is the Federal State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Central Medical and Sanitary Unit No. 91 of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency” (hereinafter referred to as CMSC No. 91.

In addition to public medical institutions, the city has 5 private medical institutions in different areas.

The education system in Lesnoy includes 21 municipal preschool educational institutions (MDOU).

Sights of Lesnoy

In the city of Lesnoy there are houses of culture and clubs, libraries, a museum and exhibition complex, a park of culture and recreation, and a cinema. However, the most famous and interesting attraction of the city is Workshop 001 - a structure hiding under its roof a 21-meter magnet weighing more than 6 thousand tons.

Another interesting landmark of the city is the Lutheran Church , built in 1901. In the 60s, the building was expanded and a second floor was added. Since 2010, the religious building came under the control of the Orthodox Church.

Also worth a visit is the Historical Museum , opened in 1968 by the city council. Today, there are more than 7 thousand different exhibits located here. The most popular of them are stuffed animals, in particular bear, wolf, elk, lynx, as well as fish and birds.

Also on the territory of the urban district, in the village of Elkino , there is an object of historical significance - the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker .
