City of Galich
Brief information about the city district
Galich is the oldest historical city, the date of its foundation is considered to be 1159. The city is a historical settlement (approved by order of the Ministry of Culture of Russia No. 418, Ministry of Regional Development of Russia No. 339 of July 29, 2010 “On approval of the list of historical settlements”) and has a unique architectural, cultural and historical heritage.
The historical appearance of the medieval Russian city has been well preserved to this day. Since 2010, Galich is the only city in the region that is included in the list of Russian settlements that have the official status of “historical settlements.”
Galich is located 130 km northeast of Kostroma and 360 km from Moscow. total area
The city's territory is 1,648 hectares.
One of the positive factors in the development of the city’s economy is the railway and federal highways.
The population of the urban district of Galich as of January 1, 2018 is 16.9 thousand people, including:
- under working age – 3.3 thousand people;
- working age – 9.2 thousand people;
- over working age – 4.4 thousand people.
Natural resource potential
Galich is located on the Galich-Chukhloma Upland and the southeastern shore of Lake Galich.
One of the priorities for developing the city’s economy and improving the quality of life of the population is gasification. In 2022, work on the construction of gas pipelines was completed in sections No. 4,5,7,11.12,13,14. The total length of the constructed gas distribution networks was 31 km.
In 2022, it is planned to complete the construction of gas distribution networks with a length of more than 20 km in sections 15 and 16 (Shoksha microdistrict) and connect branches to residential buildings.
In total, in accordance with the implementation of the schedule for synchronizing the gasification of the city, 141 km of street gas pipelines out of 143 km (or 98 percent of the total plan) have been built to date. Thus, the main work on gasification of the city in accordance with the gasification project developed in 2009 will be completed in 2022.
The presence of natural gas in the city will solve the problem of heating, hot water, etc.
The main natural resources of the city: healing lake mud - sapropel, minerals - peat.
Galich Lake is one of the remarkable reservoirs of the Russian Plain with an area of 75.4 square meters. km, 18 km long and 6 km wide. It is shallow - the average depth is 1.8 m. The lake is located in an erosion-tectonic depression stretching for 75 km from east to west. The lake is of fishing importance, but the main and still unappreciated wealth in it is sapropel. The bottom of Lake Galich is completely covered with bottom silt with organic remains of plants, animals and useful chemicals. Sapropel contains a large amount of magnesium and iron salts.
Lake sediments - sapropel - is a highly effective healing mud that treats more than 200 diseases, mainly diseases of the musculoskeletal system, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory diseases, and skin diseases. The significant activity of medicinal mud determines their high medicinal properties. Sapropel can also be used as a valuable organo-mineral fertilizer or as an additive in animal feed. Sapropel is also of interest as a chemical raw material. By chemically processing sapropel and heating it to a temperature of 400-600 degrees, it is possible to obtain ammonia, ammonia and other products. Sapropel can also serve as fuel - so 1 million tons of sapropel can replace more than 1 million cubic meters. m of firewood
The reserves of sapropel available in Lake Galich amount to more than 600 million tons. The thickness of the sapropel layer in the lake ranges from 6 to 9 meters.
Galich has small, but quite tangible and significant mineral resources for the economy, which are represented by peat deposits. In the territory adjacent to the city, near the Shoksha microdistrict, there is the Shokshanskoye peat deposit with an area of about 35 square meters. km.
Considering the city's capabilities from the point of view of its sustainable development, it is obvious that it has resources that can be effectively used.
