Just like Bondarevo and Askiz, Sorsk was visited during the New Year holidays.
I haven’t been to Sorsk since September 2011 and it was interesting to find out how he’s doing. Has it completely degraded or is it holding on?
It turned out that the only change over the years is that at the entrance to the city, guests are now greeted by a brand new stele with a pictogram of a public toilet. Apparently, this is the logo of the ferromolybdenum plant located here.
No further global changes have been detected. It feels like the city is stuck in the “roaring nineties.”

We talked with local residents. On the right is Valentina Simakova, on the left is her relative, who wished to remain anonymous.
According to Valentina, whose relatives work at a local ferromolybdenum plant, salaries there range from 15 to 30 thousand rubles. At the processing plant (a division of the same plant), the maximum salary is about 17 thousand.
— In what conditions do people work there, and what salaries do they receive? It’s a nightmare! We live here as if spat upon, forgotten... There are no more words. In Krasnoyarsk, a watchman can earn 26 thousand, but here a man with a shovel at the stove gets 30 thousand. He has to throw a ton of coal there and then back in 12 hours.
We asked Valentina for her opinion about the presidential candidates in the upcoming elections.
— You know, there is no alternative to Putin. Who? Well, who is it? Yavlinsky? Well, something like that... For him to prove himself in some way, there is no such thing. If only there was someone, then it would be possible...

Local pensioners Galina Kornilenko and Natalya Leonova. Their pension is 12 and 13 thousand rubles, respectively.
“Now we exist, we survive on these pensions,” says Galina Kornilenko. — My husband and I together receive 28 thousand. And do you think we are surviving? We take the cheapest medicines. What we bought before is what we wear. We eat the rest. And not caviar with butter, but... Some fish, a little meat, butter, bread, cottage cheese. How much would be enough for me? What difference does it make, they won’t add to our pension anyway.
Local residents also complained that it is difficult to move somewhere from Sorsk, since it is difficult to sell an apartment here. The average price of a two-room apartment is 450 thousand, but even for this money it is impossible to find a buyer. Sorsk is a single-industry town whose prosperity depends on one enterprise.

Another feature of Sorsk is the numerous old iron swings.

Historical sketch
