TOP 5 hotels in Evpatoria: ideal options for families with children

Evpatoria is the sunniest city in Crimea. The resort is especially appreciated for its sandy beaches, mud lakes, and mineral waters. Everything for an eventful leisure time fits into a small area: in the Museum of Miniatures you can see the sights of the Crimea, there is its own “Glade of Fairy Tales”, two water parks, a dolphinarium, a dinosaur park, an ancient city, a temple, a synagogue, a mosque, a teke of dervishes and much more.

Evgeniya, who together with her children aged 2 and 4 years, as well as nephews aged 3 and 5 years, vacationed here in July-August 2022, spoke about the nuances important for the trip.

Between me and my sister, we had five preschool children from 2 to 5 years old, practically a group in a private kindergarten.

When we were deciding where we were going, we decided on Yevpatoriya because:

  1. Sandy beach.
  2. Calm sea, gentle entrance.
  3. Entertainment for all ages.

How to get there

Airplane

The only passenger airport operating today in Crimea is in Simferopol. From Moscow the flight time is 2.5 hours. In April, prices for the 2022 season are as follows: in May and September you can fly from 3 thousand rubles (without luggage, only hand luggage), tickets in June, July, August - from 5.6 thousand. It is better to buy in advance, because... the cost rises inexorably as the season approaches.

There are three ways to get from Simferopol airport to Evpatoria:

  1. Regular bus (travel time is about 1.5 hours, a ticket in 2018 cost 200-250 rubles).
  2. Taxi (1000-2500 rubles, ride no more than an hour).
  3. Transfer from home owners (price negotiable, usually 1,500 rubles).

I flew with my children from St. Petersburg. Tickets were purchased late - a month before departure. An adult plus two children came out to around 30,000 rubles. For one piece of luggage we paid 3500, for choosing a seat on the plane – 300 rubles/ticket. Upon arrival, at the Simferopol airport itself, I ordered a taxi with a seat and booster seat. Cost 1800.

Train

In December 2022, ticket sales for direct trains to Crimea will open. But while the railway bridge to the peninsula has not been built, only a combined method is available: to Krasnodar or Anapa under the sound of wheels, then 10-18 hours by bus. Travel time Moscow-Evpatoria: 1.5-2 days. The total cost of the trip is equal to the flight. The option may be beneficial if there are benefits on the railway, or if you are afraid of flying.

Detailed analysis of the trip by train and bus to Evpatoria

Automobile

The distance from the capital to the resort is about 2000 km. Without delays or stops, you can get there in a day. You should definitely choose toll roads: bypass roads are in poor condition. You also need to be prepared that in the summer you will most likely have to sit in traffic jams near Losevo and Feodosia.

Lake Moinaki

Directly opposite the paid beaches there is the famous Lake Moinaki (Moinak Lake) with famous healing mud.

Lake Moinaki with highly mineralized water - brine is a true pearl of Evpatoria. At the bottom of the lake lie miraculous healing muds (silts), which have been used for medicinal purposes from time immemorial.

The mud of Lake Moinak is one of the resort’s potent healing agents. It was these muds that brought Evpatoria the fame of a balneological resort, because, according to local doctors, they treat various ailments, as well as rejuvenate and heal the body.

The approach to the lake is free - you come and cover yourself with mud.

The approach (entrance) to the beaches and Lake Moinaki is located in the area of Kyiv Street, on the Moinak bay-bar. From the center of Yevpatoria you can take buses No. 6 and 10 - the final stop. You can also get there by tram, but it's a bit of a walk. Read more about Lake Moinak and the Cote d'Azur beach...

Weather and swimming

The resort is located on a plain and is open to all winds; there is no “impossible stuffiness” here. There are more sunny days than in Yalta, Sochi and even Sukhumi. Thanks to the shallow water, the water warms up quickly. The swimming season opens from the second half of May and lasts until the end of September, sometimes longer.

Many compare the climate of Evpatoria with the climate of the best resorts in Italy and France.

“Shopping for the year ahead” didn’t work out for us with small children. We left the beach at about 11 a.m. to return to the house for lunch and an afternoon nap before it got hot. The water had not yet had time to warm up as much as possible. Closer to 16 o'clock we returned to the sea, but a cool wind was already rising, and we hurried to end our swimming before half past four in the evening.

When is the best time to go to Evpatoria?

Yevpatoria has the mildest climate throughout the peninsula. In mid-May the air temperature reaches +25 degrees. In June – +28.

If your main goal is to spend as much time as possible on the beach, swim and sunbathe as much as possible, it is best to come to Evpatoria with your children in the first month of summer. During this period, the water in the sea warms up to +22 degrees. The beaches in Evpatoria are small, and temperatures comfortable for swimming are reached faster than on the southern coast.

If your child does not tolerate heat and scorching sun, it is best to come on vacation in early September. The rays are no longer so merciless, and the sea is still warm (+22 degrees).

Accommodation

Evpatoria is one of the best balneological resorts in the former USSR. In addition to the sea, sun and sand, there are also healing mud lakes and mineral waters. The first health resorts appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century. Today there are more than forty sanatoriums, many of them designed for children or families with children.

Sanatoriums

We considered the option of accommodation in a sanatorium, I’m sharing my sign:

Pros:Minuses:
Treatment and recovery according to an individual program.Long stay (at least 21 days) in order to have time to complete full courses of procedures. This is due to the center’s work schedule, the need to take breaks, etc.
Everything you need is nearby, no need to waste time on the road.The procedures are scheduled in time, and most likely, the breaks between them will not be enough for a tangible relaxation on the beach.
You don't have to waste time on cooking and cleaning.The food is strictly dietary, without gastronomic delights.
The resort's own park area and beach.The service and living conditions are rather ascetic.

Hotels, boarding houses and inns

In the city center there are establishments built during the Soviet Union. They are located away from the beach, but all city entertainment is nearby. New hotels are being built on the coast closer to the exits from the city. There are luxurious beaches, well-groomed grounds, and modern interiors. They charge a lot for comfort, but the company is going accordingly.

Children's camps

There are more than two dozen of them. You can send your child on a voucher from 6-7 years old. If you are afraid to send your child away alone for a long time, there are camps with separate buildings for parents.

Private sector

Everything is available for rent: apartments, rooms, guest houses, cottages, summer houses.

Where is the best place in the city to rent a house, and what to pay attention to:

  • Beach accessibility . The promise “the sea is 100 meters away” is not always true. There are a lot of sanatoriums, boarding houses, and camps in the city itself; entry to their beaches is closed. Check the address of the property with a city map. In fact, you can walk to the sea in the city along the street. Frunze (Central Beach) and along Duvanovskaya Street (a small area between the beaches of Themis and Oren-Crimea). Tereshkova embankment consists of concrete slabs that descend with stairs into the sea. You can swim, but there is no sand, changing cabins, showers, etc. also no. If you plan to travel to the Cote d'Azur beach (in the west of the city, paid) or Solaris (in the east of the city, free) by public transport, keep in mind that it is crowded during peak hours.
  • If you want to cook for yourself, check out the grocery stores nearby . It’s optimal if there is a Pud store nearby (similar to Pyaterochka) or Furshet. By car you can go to the market, to the Fresh hypermarket (similar to Lenta) or Furshet. There is a large selection and good prices.
  • Check the availability and serviceability of the air conditioner , it is not available everywhere.
  • Book in advance . Firstly, there is still plenty to choose from within the desired budget, and secondly, during the season it can be difficult to find an option for specific dates without interfering with existing reservations.

Camping

There is a well-equipped campsite in Yevpatoria, but few people know about it yet. It is located side by side with the Cote d'Azur beach, considered the best in Evpatoria, and according to some ratings, the best sandy beach in Crimea and even the Black Sea. For 200 rubles per day you get a protected area, shower, toilet, Wi-Fi, free access to the beach. For an additional 100 rubles they will connect you to electricity. On the opposite side from the sea, the campsite borders on another iconic place in Evpatoria - the legendary healing lake Moinaki.

If you travel by car or value camping, this is a very good option. More information about the camping can be found on the Cote d'Azur beach website.

Price issue

How much does a holiday in Evpatoria cost? It all depends on your preferences and financial capabilities:

  • room in a 4* VIP hotel, with a swimming pool, private beach, buffet – 4-6 thousand rubles/day;
  • mid-level hotels (3*) – from 2800 rub. per person for a no-frills room up to 4,000 rubles. with sea views;
  • similar prices in local sanatoriums with luxury or economy rooms;
  • daily rent of a house of 2-3 rooms in the city center - 2500-3500 rubles;
  • residential area, apartment in a multi-storey building – from 1500 rubles/day;
  • Cheap holidays are offered by the private sector - from 500 rubles. up to 1500 rub. depending on availability of amenities and distance to the beach.

Some tourists are ready to relax as savages in their own tent, far from the benefits of civilization. It is much more convenient to pitch a tent at a campsite with electricity, fresh water, toilet and shower. Accommodation will cost 500 rubles/day.

Food

Shops and markets

We mostly cooked ourselves. There were “Pud” and “Furshet” nearby, we went to “Furshet” - it was bigger, neater and without queues. But the main thing for us at Furshet was its bakery: the pastries and bread are amazing, fresh, hot. True, you need to come for them early: after lunch there is practically nothing left.

Fruits and vegetables were purchased at the market. The prices there are the same as in the store, but you can find “homemade” cucumbers, tomatoes, peaches, etc.

Prices in 2022:

  • Tomatoes – from 80 rub.
  • Cucumbers – from 60 rub.
  • Peaches – from 65 rub.
  • Watermelons – from 15 rubles.
  • Churchkhela – from 80 rub. On the market
  • Mullet – from 130 rub. in "Fresh"

All sellers pass off imported goods as Crimean ones. They even say this about raspberries and blueberries. Look for products that definitely grow here. They will be tasty, juicy, rich.

Best cafes

Coffee house "Kezlev Kavesi" and restaurant "Dzheval"

Near the gates of the old town of Gezlev (exact address: Karaeva, 13A) there are two establishments in the traditional Crimean Tatar style.

The coffee shop brews 15 varieties of coffee, including Kezlev coffee, a large selection of Crimean tea and oriental desserts. Restaurant "Dzheval" is one of the best representatives of Crimean Tatar cuisine on the peninsula. Everyone here praises the atmosphere, like a corner of another world, the menu, and the service.

From the coffee shop menu 2022:

  • Coffee Kezlev Kavesi - 120 rubles;
  • Tea - 250 rubles per teapot;
  • Dzhevezli kobete - 80 rubles.

Cafe "Karaman"

Another iconic place in Yevpatoria, authentic Karaite cuisine. There is always a queue here, and at the entrance to the cafe there are even special benches for those waiting for a table.

“Karaman” is located in the courtyard right behind the wall of the Karaimsky kenas, the exact address is: Karaimskaya st., 68.

Karaites are an ethnic group, there are about 2000 of them in the world. But they managed to preserve their customs, religion, cuisine, even language. The interior is very simple, as if you had set a table on a friend’s patio, and the food also matches this: whatever you choose, everything will be delicious like home.

What to try:

  • Chir-chir (Karaite pasties: with meat, cheese, vegetables) – 80 rubles;
  • Hamur-doma (tiny dumplings with broth) – 180 rubles;
  • Buza (millet kvass) – 150 rubles. per liter jug.

Anna Akhmatova's Literary Cafe

It’s easy to find: next to the dancing fountain on Theater Square. You need to cross the road and turn into a quiet street with tram rails (no cars drive here), you will immediately see tables. Exact address: Anna Akhmatova passage 21/16.

The atmosphere is in the spirit of the Silver Age. In the evenings there is live music: saxophone, piano and cello, etc. A table for dinner must be reserved in advance.

We came in the afternoon for desserts. We sat down on the summer terrace, enjoyed cakes and looked at the Evpatoria trams passing a couple of meters away.

The choice of desserts is large, you can try a new one every day, they are all fresh, served in a restaurant style. Children are provided with coloring books and games, and there is a small playroom outside.

Prices from menu 2022:

  • Coffee - 90-150 rubles;
  • Tea — 175 rub. for a teapot;
  • Cakes - 55-130 rub./100g.

Eating on the waterfront

Along all the embankments there are numerous canteens, cafes, restaurants, pizzerias, kebab shops, waffles, sushi, shawarma, and pie shops. There is a constant rotation of personnel, and all recommendations regarding cuisine or service quickly lose their validity. But there are common features of the establishments on the embankment that we noticed:

  1. Most of what is listed on the hefty menu is not actually there. Ask what you can choose from.
  2. There is a lot of mayonnaise, and it is absolutely everywhere. If you don’t want to eat it, order dishes that definitely won’t contain it, for example, grilled vegetables or compote.
  3. Bank cards are not accepted everywhere, please check this immediately.
  4. In the evening, all restaurants sing (mostly chanson), so you won’t be able to sit in silence here.
  5. They may replace a dish or ingredients in it without your knowledge.

We ordered mullet with vegetables at the Ukrainian restaurant “Budmo” (stunning view of the sea), I don’t even know what kind of fish we got instead.

Beach

Advantages of Evpatoria beaches

  1. Sand on the shore and sandy bottom in the sea.
  2. Long, smooth entry into the water (convenient for bathing children).
  3. Calm sea.
  4. The depth is shallow, so the water heats up quickly.
  5. There are paid entertainments for children: labyrinths, fishing, slides, etc. You can leave your child with an interesting activity and under supervision, and go for a swim yourself.

Flaws

  1. City beaches have become narrow (gone into the sea) and therefore cramped.
  2. Endless noise spam: animators using their bullhorns encourage vacationers to ride a slide, on a banana, on a parachute, eat ice cream, drink kvass, put things in a storage room, take pictures on a boat, etc.
  3. There are few foot washes and changing rooms on free beaches; there are always queues.

Gorky Embankment

There are a lot of beaches in sanatoriums, hotels and children's camps in Evpatoria, the entrance to most of them is closed even for a fee. In fact, you can walk to the sea along Frunze Street (Central Beach) and Duvanovskaya Street.

It is crowded and noisy, there are tents, paid sun beds, and water activities for children and adults. Near the beach on Frunze there is the Lukomorye water park, attractions, and an aquarium. Duvanovskaya Street is quieter, there is a museum, a theater, and a dancing fountain.

Tereshkova embankment

This is a concrete embankment for walking and relaxing. Nearby is the Little Jerusalem tourist route, temples, a park, a Ferris wheel, attractions, and restaurants. The slabs descend with stairs into the sea, there is no beach infrastructure. True, there are those who like to swim here too.

Keep in mind: the concrete slabs are in disrepair; restoration work began in 2022, when the western edge of the embankment was closed. It will fully open and appear in a new form only in 2022.

Solaris and new beaches in the east

In the east, the Tereshkova embankment abuts sandy beaches; this is practically the exit from the city, the final tram stop. The nearest beach is Solaris, it has everything you need for a beach holiday, but we found it very cramped and dirty. It’s better to go a little further, there will be more sand, cleaner sea, fewer vacationers.

"Côte d'Azur" in the west

This is a paid beach, entrance is 30 rubles for the whole day. It is considered the best in Yevpatoria, and according to some ratings, the best sandy beach on the peninsula. Wide, clean, well-maintained. There is even protection against jellyfish. The only drawback is its remoteness. By public transport you can get there by minibuses No. 6 and No. 10.

We came here for a full day and rented a reed house for 1,500 rubles so the children could sleep. In the VIP area, everything is thought out for privacy and comfort.

Where to stay with children

The former all-Union health resort is actually a small town that can be walked around in a few hours. Where to stay in Evpatoria with children? Resort areas are well known to tourists:

  1. Simferopolskaya Street stretches along the coast and is lined with many boarding houses and hotels. The best sanatoriums in the city are located here. Pros - first line, beautiful views, a few steps to the sea. Cons: small selection of shops, far from the center.
  2. The Old Town is a good option for a budget holiday. The majority is occupied by the private sector. You can inexpensively rent a guest house with its own plot and garden. The area is quiet and calm, close to the “Little Jerusalem” route, where the main historical attractions are presented. The embankment is within walking distance. Tereshkova with entertainment, cafes and restaurants where you can eat with your child. Cons: lack of large stores and problems with parking.
  3. The resort area will appeal to older children who especially need entertainment. During the day, beaches, water attractions, parks, trampolines, and a dolphinarium nearby await them. In the evening you can walk along the beautifully lit embankment, go to shops, and eat ice cream in a cafe.
  4. , resort villages are scattered one after another - Zaozernoye, Vitino, etc. They are all similar to each other. Apart from spacious sandy beaches, a couple of cafes, a small market and a few shops, there is nothing here. But there are hotels and boarding houses, and their prices are much lower than in the city.

When choosing an area, consider the interests of your children. If the sea and fussing in the sand are enough for the kids, the older children will ask to go to Evpatoria. Owners of their own cars will get to the center without any problems. The rest will have to be content with public transport, for which there are queues in the summer.

Look for good hotels on

Hotellook - the site compares prices of a variety of booking systems (Booking too) and finds the best one. Read our instructions on how to find a good and inexpensive hotel on your own.

Children

It’s good for children and with children:

  1. A sandy beach for kids, sand is still preferable to pebbles: you can build castles, dig the deepest tunnels, hide “secrets”, make Easter cakes and dig out each other without touching your hands. What would childhood be without this?!
  2. Shallow water for quiet swimming: a couple of steps or movements away from mom will not steal the bottom from under little legs.
  3. There are many places where it is interesting for a child to go: a dolphinarium, a Dinopark, a Tropic Park, a mini-zoo, an aquarium, attractions, water parks, a theater.
  4. A constant series of events for children, including free ones: master classes, performances by children's groups (remember the abundance of camps), Friday Karaite evenings (an atmospheric festival in the old city with a large number of cultural events for children of all ages).

Leisure in and around the city

  1. Evpatoria is an ancient city, it is more than 2.5 thousand years old. Just strolling through the old narrow streets is a treat for the eyes. It is very beautiful and soulful here.
  2. There are enough excursion places in the city itself; nearby there is always a pleasant restaurant or cafe with access to the embankment. Everything is conducive to a leisurely immersion in history.
  3. On Fridays, the Karaite Evenings festival takes place in the old town.
  4. Be sure to take a ride on the tram. Evpatoria is the only city in Crimea where this transport can be found. Many websites talk about the excursion tram of desire. It hasn't worked for a long time. But the retro tram still runs on route No. 2 “Liman-Gortheater”. It's still wooden inside. The fare is 15 rubles.
  5. Yevpatoria has its own “swan lake”. It appeared recently: a pair of graceful birds stayed here after wintering, choosing the lake as their home. Now the colony numbers more than a hundred individuals, and none of them flies away. The Evpatorians provide them with food supply: the flow of people with treats for the almost tame birds does not dry out. The lake with swans is located on the eastern exit from the city, it is part of Lake Sasyk-Sivash. It’s easier to get here by car or taxi: go to Simferopolskaya, after the railway crossing turn right, you won’t miss the parking lot with a gazebo on the water. We rode bicycles.
  6. After sunset, you can sit by the dancing fountain and admire the show of colorful splashes accompanied by classical or time-tested popular foreign music.
  7. On Gorky Embankment every evening there are theatrical performances, orchestra performances, fire shows, fiery dances, magic tricks, poetry declarations and much more. Just walk along the sea and stop where you are interested.
  8. For adults, there are not only restaurants and bars, but also nightclubs, discos and concerts on the beach (Solaris, Cote d'Azur).

A great guide to entertainment and beautiful places in Evpatoria

It’s a good idea to book yourself a tour of the city and surrounding area in advance:

People

After ten in the evening the city falls asleep, except for the noisy party areas of Frunze Street and Solaris Beach. Almost all restaurants and cafes are closing, the embankments are empty.

Evpatoria is a family resort, there are many young guests here, children easily make friends on the beach or on the playground, and quickly acquire company and new friends.

Attitudes towards visitors are different: those who work with tourists dream of “extracting” more money, the rest of the Evpatorians are very responsive and hospitable.

Walking past the fire station, our kids stuck to the fence, looking at the cars. A fireman saw them, invited us inside and gave the children a real tour. Just like that, because the children and because he had time.

General Tips

  1. For very young children, purchase an inflatable pool, the water in it will be warmer, and the child will spend more time swimming.
  2. If you don't have a car, feel free to rent bicycles. Child seats are provided for them. Evpatoria is a compact city, you will discover a lot even in a couple of hours of riding. It is convenient to get to remote beaches by bicycle. We picked it up at a point on the street. Duvanovskaya (next to the pump room).
  3. If you live in the private sector, ask about the prices for procedures in a sanatorium nearby; you might be able to get a massage, mud therapy, or drink an oxygen cocktail. Inexpensive cocktails, by the way, can be obtained at the Red Cross office (13 November str., 22): a large glass - 40 rubles, a small glass - 20 rubles.
  4. In Crimea, everything is for sale; there is no need to carry a pack of Japanese diapers with you.
  5. If you need to consult a doctor, there are two children's clinics in Evpatoria. The search engine only returns on the street. Nekrasova, 85. Perhaps a new branch on the street. Dmitry Ulyanov, 1A will be closer. There are also fewer queues here.
  6. If an important point of your planned trip is self-medication on Lake Moinaki, know that the miraculous lake is “not the same anymore.” The water is desalinated by coastal and bottom sources; the centuries-old mud baths, once famous far beyond the borders of the USSR, are closed. In sanatoriums and health institutions of Evpatoria they use imported Saki mud and rappa. But the lake itself is still picturesque, and the air is saturated with salts and minerals.
