Novorossiysk in 1 day is a standard option for exploring the city during a vacation in the Krasnodar region. The city was founded in 1838 and received the title of hero city in the last century. Its history is closely connected with the Great Patriotic War, after which Novorossiysk was practically rebuilt. In addition to visiting the war memorials, it is worth taking a leisurely stroll along the developed pedestrian zone along the Black Sea and visiting local wineries. Before your trip, check the weather in Novorossiysk for 1 day, as the city is known for its strong north-east winds.

Architecture and monuments of the city of Novorossiysk
Among the things you should definitely see in Novorossiysk, it is necessary to highlight monuments and monuments, of which there are really a lot here. Architecture lovers will also find something to admire, as there are plenty of beautiful buildings in the city.
Memorial "Border of Defense"
- Address: st. Tsemesskaya. Transport stop "Kirillovsky turn".
The incredibly expressive memorial complex was inaugurated in 1978 on the 35th anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazis. It was in this place that the line of defense of the Soviet troops passed, blocking the path of the Wehrmacht armadas, eager for the oil of Baku and Grozny.
The monumental ensemble includes a podium with memorial steles, the skeleton of a railway carriage riddled with bullets and shell fragments, as well as a monument towering over the road. It is a reinforced concrete pylon, from which the hands of soldiers, clutching machine guns, seem to grow. The memorial looks solemn and impressive.
Fountain "Giving Water"
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop "Hotel Chernomorskaya".
Novorossiysk, like some other cities in southern Russia, does not have its own fresh water storage facilities, so there have always been certain problems with water supply here. In the last third of the last century, the situation worsened so much that water was brought into the city by tankers. The construction of a water pipeline helped to overcome the crisis.
In honor of this event, a fountain-monument was installed on the embankment. Its monumental component is the sculpture of a beautiful girl crouched on her knees, from whose hands streams of water flow into the pool. Over time, the statue began to collapse. In 2006, a new statue cast from stainless steel was installed in its place. The townspeople love the monument very much, and tourists throw coins into the fountain to return to Novorossiysk again.
Monument "Exodus"
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop "TK Gallery".
The background to the appearance of the monument is connected with the tragic moments of the Civil War era. Then about 50 thousand people, among whom were refugees, officers and soldiers of the White Guard, tried to leave Russia on foreign ships docked in the port. There wasn't enough space for everyone. More than a third of people were never able to emigrate.
In memory of this event, a monument was erected on the embankment of Novorossiysk in 2013. The sculptural composition depicting a White Guard pulling a horse by the reins to the sea is inspired by a scene from the film “Two Comrades Served.” By the way, the statue of the officer bears a resemblance to V. Vysotsky, who played the role of Lieutenant Brusentsov in the film, forced to shoot the faithful steed that rushed after the sailing ship into the sea.
City Palace of Culture building
- Address: st. Sovetov, 9. Transport stop "Kutuzova".
A magnificent monument of Stalinist architecture, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Novorossiysk, was inaugurated in 1937. This is a real palace with an antique eight-column portico divided by a high arch.
The decor of the building is luxurious. Carved cornices, stucco moldings, and luxurious column capitals attract the eye. Above the central entrance there will be a high relief depicting the city's coat of arms. The exterior of the building makes a wonderful impression.
Golitsyn Castle
- Address: Sukhumskoe highway, 31.
Those who want to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of an old German castle should use their imagination and explore the ruins of the dacha of academician Boris Borisovich Golitsyn, the so-called “Golitsyn Castle”.
The dacha was built by a seismologist in 1901 in the Gothic style, characteristic of German architecture of the 19th century. Now all that remains are ruins, which are under the protection of the Ministry of Defense.
Ruins of the Tsementnikov House of Culture
- Address: M-4 Don, 1541st kilometer.
Near Polyclinic No. 3, near the Sukhumi highway, you can see an outstanding monument of Soviet architecture, which is currently in a deplorable state. The ruins of the Tsementnikov Palace of Culture remind everyone how terrible war can be, because it suffered from shelling during the Second World War.
Novorossiysk lighthouse
- Address: Serebryakov embankment.
It is also recommended to visit the local Lighthouse in Novorossiysk on your own - a small metal structure in the center of Tsemes Bay, which is not functioning today. But it is not he himself that is interesting, but the pier, which is distinguished by its extraordinary length.
It's a nice place to walk or ride a bike, and you can also fish right from it. But it is especially recommended to visit this attraction at dawn – the views awaiting guests are simply amazing.
Sculptural composition “Girl on a Dolphin”
- Address: Serebryakov embankment. Transport stop “Park im. Lenin".
Tourists love to take pictures at this elegant monument, which townspeople often call “The Dolphin and the Mermaid.” Indeed, the metal sculpture, decorated in bronze, symbolizes the carefree nature of a holiday at a southern resort.
Sculptures of a dolphin pleased with himself and a beauty sitting on him, whose hair is blown by the sea breeze, are placed on a granite boulder. If you want your wish to come true, make it and rub the metal back of the charming inhabitant of the depths.
Monument to Geshe Kozodoev
- Address: Sudzhuk Spit. Transport stop "NGMA".
Perhaps the most colorful monument in Novorossiysk is located on the Sundzhuk Spit. In 2010, on a small island, often covered by waves, a monument to the charming adventurer Geshe Kozodoev was erected.
The bronze embodiment of the hero of the immortal comedy “The Diamond Arm” walks on the water with a snag on which the swimming trunks of Lelik, no less beloved by the people, are developing. It is worth noting that the sculpture bears no resemblance to the magnificent artist Andrei Mironov, who played Gesha in the film. However, the art object does not lose anything from this.
Death Valley and Monument Explosion
- Address: Novorossiyskaya street, Myskhako.
In the village of Myskhako near Novorossiysk there is a memorial complex called “Death Valley”. It is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War, drawing citizens and tourists to the tragic events of 1943, when the heroic defense of Malaya Zemlya was carried out.
For this small area of territory, fierce battles went on for 7 months, the land was burning in the literal sense of the word.
1250 kilograms for each soldier defending the bridgehead - this is the weight of dropped shells, bombs, and mines. Today there is an interesting monument here called “The Explosion”, it was assembled from the remains of ammunition. The inscription on the monument preserves this figure and conjures descendants to remember the feat of the defenders of Novorossiysk.
Monument to the Wives of Sailors
- Address: Novorossiysk Republic Street.
In the center of the city, on the embankment, in 2010, a sculpture by Alexander Suvorov and Alexander Izmodenov was installed, called “Monument to the Sailor” or “Monument to the Sailor’s Wife.”
The sculpture depicts a woman with a child in her arms, accompanying a sailor on his voyage. She personifies the loyalty and devotion of wives raising children and waiting for their husbands from a long sea voyage.
Monument to Pushkin
- Address: Park Alley.
A.S. Pushkin died before the city of Novorossiysk was founded. But this did not stop the residents of Novorossiysk from creating a monument to the poet, because his work is familiar from childhood and loved by all Russians. The monument was opened in 1999. Its authors are sculptor Alexander Suvorov and architect Ivan Krikun.
The monument is made of bronze. A.S. Pushkin is depicted sitting on a bench with a manuscript and a pen in his hands: it seems that the poet was “caught” at the moment of creating a literary work. On the pedestal there are lines from the poem “To Chaadaev”: “My friend, let us dedicate our souls to our homeland with wonderful impulses.”
Cape of Love
- Address: emb. Admiral Serebryakov.
Part of the Novorossiysk embankment in Tsemes Bay is called Cape of Love. This is a wonderful observation deck, which was captured in his work by the artist Ivan Aivazovsky. The history of the place is covered in legends. Once upon a time there was a site where slaves were traded.
But even forced people are capable of strong feelings. The lovers could not be together and threw themselves off a cliff so that after death their souls would be united. There are other love stories associated with this place, because it is no coincidence that this is the Cape of Love.
Monument to the Black Sea anchovy
- Coordinates: 44.694125, 37.791626.
In 2022, a monument to a small fish that lives in the Black Sea - anchovy - appeared in the city next to the fish factory. It is believed that anchovy saved townspeople from hunger in different historical periods - both during the mountains of military operations and during perestroika.
The monument by Alexander Suvorov is an image of a school of fish on a granite pedestal, the inscription on it reads: “Anchovy from grateful Novorossiysk residents.”
Memorial complex Malaya Zemlya
During the Great Patriotic War, Novorossiysk was captured by Wehrmacht troops. The liberation plan was drawn up from November 1942 and was approved on January 11, 1943. The landing operation began on February 4, 1943, during which a bridgehead was captured and held until the arrival of the main group on September 9, 1943. The place where Soviet troops landed on February 4, 1943 and which was defended for 225 days is now called Malaya Zemlya. Small Earth is a symbol of courage and perseverance, it is our memory and pride.
Inside the Malaya Zemlya memorial there is a museum of military glory, it is open to everyone. There are 30 bas-reliefs depicting 30 heroes of the Soviet Union, the 30 paratroopers who became heroes of the Soviet Union as a result of the defense of the Malaya Zemlya bridgehead.
A walk around Novorossiysk evokes a lot of emotions. Of course, most of them are not of an idle nature. It so happened that Novorossiysk experienced a lot, much more than most cities in our big country. The monuments and memorials we visited reminded us of this. You can come to Novorossiysk just to take a walk, but it’s still better to come here to absorb the lessons of history that this city has absorbed with blood.

During the years of persecution of religion, the cathedral was closed, and during the war the building was also heavily damaged by shelling and bombing.
The temple was restored from ruins after the liberation of Novorossiysk, however, in 2011 it was destroyed by fire. The new church was erected and consecrated in 2013. The cathedral is an excellent example of Russian religious architecture and has all the colorful features characteristic of churches in Suzdal or Vladimir .

The façade is lined with pink tuff; four octagonal drums with lancet windows cover figured hipped domes topped with gilded domes. The highest of them cuts 30 m into the sky. The temple is rightfully one of the architectural highlights of the city.

Tsemes Bay
Tsemes Bay is not only a natural attraction of Novorossiysk, but also the most important object from an economic point of view. Vessels for a wide variety of purposes arrive at the port every day. The coastline of the bay, 15 km long, has port facilities and quite good beaches on its territory.
In the cold season, the bay does not freeze; the sea water temperature does not drop below +9°C. In summer the water warms up to +27°C.
The bay got its name due to the small river (Tsemes) flowing into it. Until 1829, this territory belonged to the Turkish state. Having become part of the Russian Empire, Novorossiysk became the second most important port on the Black Sea, second only to Sevastopol. The bay is very convenient for the arrival of large ships: the average depth is 24 m, width is 15 km.
In winter and autumn, the weather in the bay is unfavorable: very strong winds blow, which often causes shipwrecks. Such bad weather and the sad consequences after it have been observed here since ancient times, which thereby attracts divers, who often find ancient coins and dishes here.
Tsemes Bay is located in the central zone of the city. Entrance to the territory is free.
