Primorsko-Akhtarsk is a small cozy town on the shores of the Azov Sea. If you are tired of the bustle of the city, but do not want to live in the countryside, then this city is for you. There are practically no cars. You can walk down the street for 20 minutes and not see a car. Population 30 thousand people. Warm sea, gentle sand, what else is needed for a carefree life? But not everything is as rosy as it seems at first glance.
In 1774, Russian troops captured the Turkish fortress of Akhtar-Bakhtar
(the name comes from the Turkic “seaside white cliff”).
In 1778, the Akhtarsky redoubt
.
In 1854, the village of Akhtarsky
, formed from Cossack farms near the Akhtarsky estuary. In 1878, the village was included in the village of Brinkovskaya. In 1900, the village was transformed into the village of Primorsko-Akhtarskaya. In 1922-1926 the village was a city, then again a village. On January 11, 1949, the settlement was reorganized into the city of Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
Characteristics of the city
Until 1774, there was a Turkish fortress on the site of the city. Russian troops captured it, and after 4 years they built fortifications here and dug deep ditches. This is how the Akhtarsky redoubt appeared. It retained its name (the Turkish fortress was called Akhtar-Bakhtar).
Later, the Cossacks built a farm here. From 1854 to 1948, it periodically became a village, then a village, then a city. Only in January 1949 did the settlement finally receive the status of a city called Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
This is a relatively small settlement with a total occupied area of about 18,700 square meters. m. Its population is just over 32,000 people. It has a warm temperate continental-subtropical climate with mild, humid winters and very warm summers. Of the 365 days in a year, 235 are sunny days in the seaside town.
The main activity of the local population is fishing and seafood processing.
In addition, the following operate in Primorsko-Akhtarsk:
- several small fish processing plants;
- several construction companies;
- brewery;
- hotel complexes and hotels;
- hostels and holiday homes;
- kindergartens and schools;
- libraries;
- sports complexes and stadiums;
- many shops and catering establishments (cafes, restaurants, bars);
- several bank branches;
- medical and health organizations;
- houses and palaces of culture;
- beauty salons and hairdressers;
- museums;
- entertainment venues.
Currently, the city continues to develop and become more beautiful.
Where to have lunch
Of course, after long walks in the fresh air, an appetite appears; fortunately, Primorsko-Akhtarsk has become famous for its delicious and inexpensive food. If compared with the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, the prices here are noticeably lower, but you should not expect anything supernatural from the local cuisine.
It's quite traditional, but that doesn't make it any less delicious. Dishes of European and Japanese cuisine are quite difficult to find, you need to work hard. The Azov Sea is rich in seafood, and the locals have learned to cook it very well, which is why such dishes are common here.
There are quite a lot of cafes in the city, and the quality of service in all of them is approximately the same, so you shouldn’t wander around the city for hours in search of something special. But tourists have compiled a so-called rating of their favorite places:
- Cafe-bar "Aquarium" has an interesting design and delicious cuisine.
- Cafe "Caprice". The windows of this establishment offer a wonderful view of the sea, and accompanied by live music, the evening becomes unforgettable.
Fans of network standards will be able to find their usual cafe.

Not everyone knows the small town of Primorsko-Akhtarsk on the shores of the Azov Sea, but many people love it. Vacationers from different parts of the country come here year after year to sunbathe on sandy beaches, swim in the warm sea and take many interesting photographs as souvenirs.
Beach and sea
The main city beach is pebble-sand or, more correctly, pebble-shell, quite well maintained and separated from the shore by a concrete curb-breakwater. The beach is quite crowded, and children (there are always a huge number of children on the shore) enjoy splashing in the shallow sea and building castles from pebbles and sand.
The entire long city beach is a real paradise for children - the very warm and shallow sea makes swimming and playing on the beach quite safe. Several rescue posts are constantly on duty in the coastal area.
The water is quite clear and clean, although at times it becomes cloudy due to wind and waves. Everyone around us assured us in unison that this mud was healing , as it rose from the healing bottom mud of the sea.
The Sea of Azov is the warmest and shallowest, which is why it is considered “children’s”. The water warms up to 30 degrees in summer. And constant sea breezes are very beneficial for health, especially for the respiratory system. The shell beaches themselves are also rightfully considered very healthy.
