In the Krasnodar region, not far from the coast of the Azov Sea, is the small city of Temryuk. The attractions here are mainly of natural origin and relate to the history of the settlement. The most popular are the area's sandy beaches and mud volcanoes. They attract a large number of tourists to the city who come here for active recreation and treatment with healing mud.

Tamansky nature reserve

Temryuk is a climatic resort. People come here to relax and improve their health due to the unique climatic conditions - they are attracted by the sea and mud volcanoes, and among lovers of hunting and fishing it is considered a green resort, where you can have a good time doing what you love. The fact is that there are many lakes and estuaries in the Temryuk region. In the northeast is the Kurchansky Estuary. Flocks stop here during migration and colonies of birds nest here, some of which are listed in the Red Book.

In these places, in 1967, the Tamano-Zaporozhye Nature Reserve was created - one of the attractions of Temryuk and the surrounding area. Today it is the Tamansky reserve with an area of 30 hectares, home to mallards, swans, ibis, coots, teals, red-headed ducks and other species of waterfowl. Species of sturgeon fish are found in the reservoirs of the reserve: beluga, stellate sturgeon, carp, ram, vimba and others.

Magnificent beaches are located in resort areas of the Temryuk region, such as Ilyich, Kuchugury, Peresyp, Sennaya, Golubitskaya and are the main attractions. Temryuk is located near the village of Golubitskaya, which is famous for its shallow sandy beaches that go far into the sea. They are generally good for parents with children. The sea here is warm and gentle. In the vicinity of the city, near the village of Ataman and on the island of Tuzla, there are a lot of wild beaches that are popular with nudists.

Temryuk Museum of History and Archeology

The museum was organized in 1920 by a group of enthusiasts under the leadership of local historian S.F. Voitsekhovsky. It is dedicated to the history of not only Temryuk, but also the entire Taman Peninsula. There are exhibitions dedicated to the Bosporus Kingdom and the Tmutarakan Principality, the history and life of the Kuban Cossacks, the WWII period, and modern Temryuk. There is also a large herbarium and paleontological collection.

Location: Lenin street - 28.

Mud volcanoes

Mud volcanoes brought particular value to the resorts of Temryuk. People come here with diseases of the musculoskeletal system and chronic inflammatory processes. Therapeutic mud is rich in microelements and is called peloid. The main attraction of Temryuk is the mountain called Rotten.

At the very top of the mountain is the mud lake Hephaestus, filled with peloid. Periodically, bursting bubbles appear on its surface, reminiscent of a boiling process. But sometimes there are also emissions of dirt to a height of 20 meters. Infrastructure is developing near Hephaestus: an alley leading to the mountain, an aquarium, a cafe.

In the Temryuk region there is a mud volcano called Tizdar, located on a hill whose height above sea level is 72 meters. The hill is located in the Blue Beam tract. The Sea of Azov lies 50 meters away. Its depth is relatively small, 1 meter. The composition of the mud is related to mineral gray-brown clays and is rich in boron, bromine and iodine. It does not contain organic matter and has strong antiseptic properties. The temperature of the mud reaches +20 oC. Currently there is a tourist complex with all amenities here.

Climate

A temperate continental climate is observed in Temryuk with hot, dry summers and warm, but wet and windy winters.

Fishermen have their own season of luck: spring and autumn, when the catch is richest and most varied, including pike, crucian carp, rudd, pike perch, bream, catfish, asp.

Only on August nights can you observe an incredibly beautiful phenomenon at sea here: the water off the coast shines blue - the phytoplankton glows.

The beach season begins in May and lasts until mid-October. The swimming period in the Sea of Azov is shorter - from the end of May to the end of September.

In winter, temperatures rarely drop below zero, but rain and wind create discomfort, contributing to the low tourist season during this period.

Founding of Temryuk. Attraction - Phanagoria excavations

From 550 BC here was a Greek colony of the Hellenic Bosporan kingdom with its capital Panticapaeum. The second most important city in it was Phanagoria. Initially the settlement was called Agrippa. An interesting fact is that Phanagoria did not die from the invasion of enemies; it was absorbed by the Sea of Azov as a result of rising water levels.

Its ruins, located near the village of Sennaya, were discovered only in the 19th century after the sea level dropped. The most valuable exhibits, ancient Greek amphorae and household items are still being found. Today Phanagoria is a landmark of Temryuk and the surrounding area.

The territory of the Taman Peninsula has a rich history. Once upon a time, on the site of Temryuk there was a colony of Genoese Kop. In the 16th century, the Genoese were ousted by the Turks, who built Tumnev here - a kind of fortress with defensive structures.

The end of the 16th century was marked by the fact that these places were conquered by the Kabardian prince Temryuk, who acted in alliance with the Russians. Under him, the New Temryuk fortress was built on the site of Tumnev. After some time, she passes to the Crimean Khanate, she is given a new name - Adis. In 1774, the fortress became part of Russia. In 1860 the city of Temryuk was founded.

Military Technical Museum "Military Hill"

“Military Hill” exists in an open space; it has no premises. The exposition is located on the Miska volcano. The exhibition began its work in 1983 in connection with the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the expulsion of the Nazis from the peninsula.

There are the following exhibits: T-34-85 and T-72 tanks, AN-24B, MiG-23UB, MiG-17, AN-14 “Bee” aircraft, T-8 torpedo boat, Su-208-79 steam locomotive with a carriage , allocated for the infirmary, and a ZIS-2 cannon, a 122-mm A-19 cannon, the famous “Katyusha”, BTR-80, etc. There are more than a hundred exhibits in total. Entrance tickets are quite inexpensive: adults - 80 rubles, and children - 30. The museum is located at the end of Rosa Luxemburg Street. The military exhibition is not an independent museum. It is a structural unit of the Temryuk Museum of History and Archeology. Open seven days a week.

Location: R. Luxembourg street.

Temryuk. Where to go, what to see

The Great Patriotic War and the victory over Nazi Germany will forever remain in the history of Russia as significant and fateful events. Throughout the country you can see many monuments that perpetuate the feat of the Soviet people. In Temryuk there is a military-technical museum “Military Hill”, dedicated to the heroic defense of the city. This is one of the first open-air museums, which was created in 1983. On both sides of the road leading to Mount Miska, which is located within the city, there are examples of military equipment from the war and the late Soviet period.

Alexander Nevsky Church

It was originally built in 1901, and in 1938 the Bolsheviks, under the auspices of the fight against “opium of the people,” destroyed the cathedral. Location: Tamanskaya street - 98.

Fish market

This is an attraction for true gourmets. Yes, the Temryuk market does not compete with the fish markets of the Mediterranean, but it will still amaze with the variety of fish and seafood. Here they sell fish caught in the Azov and Black Seas, river fish, red and black caviar (relatively inexpensive), as well as fish that is found in estuaries. And, of course, small Black Sea crustaceans, a local delicacy.

The fish is sold not only raw, but also dried and smoked. There you can also buy special spices for cooking fish. The market is located near the station, between Rosa Luxemburg and Krasnoarmeyskaya streets. Monday is a day off for the market; on other days it is open until 1 pm.
