Where to eat in Tula: coffee shops, cafes, restaurants through the eyes of a tourist

As a rule, before traveling to a city as a tourist, I look through reviews of cafes and restaurants to identify a few interesting ones that are worth visiting. In tourist cities there are often unusual restaurants with interesting interiors and themes. In Tula the situation is somewhat different, so we chose places for snacks and a full dinner on the go, based on the situation. I want to tell you about places I have personally tested in Tula where you can eat or just drink coffee.

Coffee house in the Tula Kremlin

For the first time I was in Tula during the November holidays. Winter came early and unexpectedly, so at that time it was already cold and snowing. After walking around the Kremlin, we approached the shopping arcades on its territory and could not pass by the coffee shop.

We ordered desserts and coffee, the prices, as you can see in the photo, are average. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but sometimes I enjoy drinking a cappuccino in a good cafe.

I recommend this cafe, you can make a short stop here and take a break before the next sights of Tula. In addition, in this coffee shop you can buy an original chocolate gift.

Breakfast at the Orus cafe

The second time we went for a walk to Tula one day, after the train we decided to go have breakfast. Since the route started from Lenin Avenue, I looked for a cafe for breakfast there. Many establishments start opening around lunchtime, especially on Sunday, so the choice was limited. There were good reviews about the Orus cafe (61 Lenina Avenue).

cafe orus

The cafe has one small room and few tables. There were four of us, so we were glad that most of the tables were large and also had comfortable sofas. Often cafes have small tables and chairs, but here it’s a super comfortable environment for communication.

The cafe menu has a lot of drinks, a large coffee and tea list. But there is practically no food. You can choose a pastry or a piece of cake in the window, or order a sandwich or waffles.

I chose a ham and cheese sandwich and a classic iced coffee.

Tula coffee shop

Our entire group liked everything we ordered. The only negative is that the sandwiches take a very long time to prepare. We saw that everything was done under the knife, so it took a long time, but it was very tasty, the sandwich was 100% fresh. The prices here are Moscow, but we did not regret the money spent here.

Restaurant Armenia

We chose this restaurant for dinner because we were staying at the hotel overnight. As I already said, real winter began in November, so in the evening we were too lazy to look for a place for dinner far from the hotel, and then walk back in the cold, well-fed and warmed up. At the Armeni restaurant we had a buffet breakfast and were pleased with the quality and choice of dishes.

We also liked the design of the restaurant: expensive, rich, but tasteful.

restaurant armenia tula

The restaurant menu is quite standard with an Armenian flavor. That is, there are no creative dishes, no fashionable serving - everything is simple and clear. We chose wine and it came in a crazy bottle. The eggplant rolls and tongue salad were tasty, but I can’t say anything outstanding about these dishes.

I ate chicken tapaka, like everything else, it was quite tasty, but I can’t say that I remember this dish in any way.

The shashlik arrived soft and well marinated; it was probably the most successful dish.

I can confidently recommend beef in a pot (chanakhi). It’s cooked correctly, everything tastes fresh, there’s just the right amount of spice and there’s no excess fat.

The whole meal was more fun with wine, but still I’m not a fan of restaurants of this format. The menu, dishes, and presentation are reminiscent of a restaurant from Soviet times. I understand that there is no escape from classic dishes, but the same chicken can be served on a wooden board and you can prepare the sauce yourself.

Prices in “Armenia”, considering that it is a restaurant, are moderate.

Turgenev

Restaurant "Turgenev" is in the best traditions of the classics.
The sophistication of high style, the revived spirit of the past - this is not all that attracts the Turgenev restaurant, located in the historical center of Tula.

Everything, from snacks to drinks, is imbued with the spirit of Russian hospitality and French sophistication.

Classic dishes of Russian and French cuisine are created here with an emphasis on new presentation in modern cooking techniques: French Su-vide technology, elements of molecular cuisine, liquid nitrogen for preparing espuma - light and airy sauces.

Try the liver parfait with aniseed carrot cream and hazelnuts; for starters, double daily cabbage soup, made from two types of cabbage, or vichyssoise soup.

For main course - Rossini steak with duck liver, truffles, delicate onion marmalade and coulis sauce made from fresh berries or cutlet according to Pozharsky's recipe.

And for dessert, treat yourself to Belgian chocolate mousse.

A calm, peaceful atmosphere creates the feeling that time has slowed down and is flowing slowly.

An additional pleasure will be the luxurious hall of the Turgenev restaurant, exquisite paintings, elegant stucco moldings, works of art and a collection of ancient bronze watches by French masters of the 19th century.

This is the ideal place for ideal events, for love and friendly meetings, for business communication and family celebrations.

Restaurant Spices and Joys

In Tula there are two establishments from the Ginza Project restaurant chain: the restaurant of modern Georgian cuisine “Spices and Joys” and the bar “Spring”. The restaurant is located in a three-story building opposite the new Museum of Weapons (address Oktyabrskaya 1D), after visiting which we went for dinner. Realizing that on a weekend it would be crowded, since this is one of the most decent family restaurants in Tula, we tried to book a table by phone. They answered us quite rudely, asked us to wait and eventually hung up. Busy! I had to go without a reservation...

Spices and Joy

The entrance on the second floor is bustling. People come and go, waiters are running around, the hostess is trying to tear herself apart. Fortunately, we were seated at a table; all we had to do was wait for the waiter.

Spices and Joy

We got a table without a sofa, but on a holiday evening we don’t have a choice.

Spices and Joy

I love Ginza’s menu design - everything is presented so appetizingly that you want to order everything. Prices in Spices and Joys are quite high for Tula, but still the hall was full of guests. I chose the kufta bozbash soup.

Spices and Joy

The soup is rich and very satisfying. I ordered something else, but they never brought me the second dish, which is strange for Ginza service standards. On the other hand, I was even glad that they forgot the second course, since after such soup I didn’t need anything else.

Spices and Joy

From the new seasonal menu, someone ordered a salad with a poached egg and green lentils, and they seemed to like it.

rpopo

It's hard to spoil the tuna salad; it was fresh and tasty.

Spices and Joy

Men's lamb dish. Do you feel the difference in the presentation of dishes from the Armenia restaurant?

Spices and Joy

Spices and Joys has an open kitchen. The pride of the restaurant is the tandoor and grill. I recommend trying their khachapuri, they are always top notch.

Spices and Joy

Despite the mistakes of the staff, I recommend visiting the restaurant if you are not afraid of the price.

Where else can you eat in Tula

The center of Tula is full of cafes, there are even canteens. Previously, the restaurants “Skovorodka” and “Sovetsky Sport” (on Lenin Avenue) were popular, but now these restaurants are closed. Instead of a frying pan, there is a restaurant called Rodina, but I didn’t like the menu on their website.

We also had an idea to visit a restaurant in the area of the new Museum of Weapons - Sudar at the hotel. But the menu on the website surprised me in a bad way. I don’t like restaurants where there are a million similar mayonnaise salads, julienne salads, etc. This is some kind of last century for banquets.

If you love German cuisine and beer, I recommend visiting the Augustin restaurant-brewery; I heard from a friend that it’s delicious there. The restaurant is located near the entrance to the central park of Tula. It is convenient to have dinner, take a walk in the park and walk to the station if you arrive by train.

Augustin Tula

It’s difficult to stay hungry in Tula, since in any case, Tula gingerbread is sold at every step. Bon appetit!
