In the chilly June of 2016, my husband and I got a vacation at the same time. It would be stupid to spend precious days in Smolensk, although there are many wonderful places in our city. But we decided to “point our finger” at the map of Russia and go wherever our eyes take us. Imagine our surprise when the choice fell on the Republic of Tatarstan (almost 1,500 kilometers from our hometown), and not on Kazan. However, we were not going to give up. It took several days to get ready, find a cozy apartment in the city center and download the Chelny map to the smartphone. so, here is a brief description of our experience of traveling through the main attractions of Naberezhnye from Chelny with names and photos: in this city, there is undoubtedly somewhere to go and something to see!
City symbols
As you know, each city has its own symbols that can tell more about it than any other attraction. We decided to get to know them and went to house No. 12 on H. Tufan Avenue, where the tallest building in Naberezhnye Chelny was located - a 24-story business building, nicknamed “Skullcap” . It is noteworthy that the “colossus” is visible from different parts of the city and, like the Peter and Paul Spire in St. Petersburg, can serve as a landmark for those who are poorly oriented in the area.
It’s better to “get to know” the center at night, when the original lighting illuminates it with fancy lights. Lovers of heights go up to the observation deck, which offers an amazing view of the city. To those familiar with high-rise buildings, Skullcap may seem like an ordinary office building. We advise everyone who is disappointed to take a walk around the square opposite “2.18” and along H. Tufan Avenue. The fountains and whimsical sculptures of the local futurist-architect will not leave you indifferent.
Having said goodbye to the business center, we went to Tsentralnaya Street, 6, where the Tauba Mosque - the second symbol of Naberezhnye Chelny. The building, the money for the construction of which was collected “by the whole world,” is considered one of the most beautiful in the Republic of Tatarstan. Fans of classical church architecture can look at the Holy Ascension Cathedral, the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov, and the Church of St. Tikhon.
Another city symbol is located on Batenchuk Street. The memorial, dedicated to the memory of the residents of Chelny who fell during the Great Patriotic War, amazes with its grandeur. The mourning wall placed the names of 6805 people who did not return from the war. The shape of the sculpture miraculously follows the shape of the Phoenix bird.
Do you dream of seeing a pedestrian street where citizens most often spend their leisure time? Head straight to Entuziastov Boulevard . It is better to come here in the evening, when the sculptures, made in the avant-garde style, are illuminated by lanterns. The townspeople told us that on Flower Day the boulevard turns into a real work of art, covered with hundreds of bright compositions. However, we managed to have a good time here on a weekday. Fountains, benches, flower beds, many cafes and shops - this is not a complete list of what this street “pampers” tourists with.
For those who want to bring interesting photographs from Naberezhnye Chelny, we advise you to go to house 112a, located here on Entuziastov Boulevard. The area near the Temptation restaurant is often used for photo shoots. A local landmark is a beautiful carriage, anyone can take a photo next to it.
Spring "Holy Key"
During the times of merchant Elabuga, when the bell ringing of Elabuga churches and cathedrals spread far across the surrounding area, there were seven holy healing springs around the city. Since that time, only one source has remained unchanged.
The holy spring is well equipped, capped, a chapel has been built, parking for vehicles, descent and approaches have been equipped. There is a bathhouse with a plunge pool, there is water from an underground spring, where you can swim on hot summer days, but be careful - the water is cold.
This is a quiet, calm place to unite with yourself and your thoughts. Here you can feel all the charm of living, pure nature, admire the views of our region and take beautiful photographs that will delight you for a long time.
Where and how to get there: 22 km from the city towards Elabuga. The spring is located on the southern edge of the Maly Bor forest of the Nizhnyaya Kama National Park, 3 km east of the city of Yelabuga.
Cultural leisure
Not a single trip is complete without a trip to museums. This time we decided not to cheat on ourselves and looked into the Main City Museum , located in Naberezhnye Chelny at the address: st. Gidrostroiteley, 16. (not to be confused with the Museum of City History). In general, the exhibitions of these institutions are consistent. Both museums tell the history of the city. There are antique photographs, decorative and applied arts, and household items. Separate stands depict the pre-Soviet period in the history of the city. Please note: Tuesday and Monday are days off. While museums are closed, you can visit the Chelny art gallery (Mira Avenue, 52/16) and the Da Vinci art gallery, located in house No. 3 on the same avenue.
Tired of walking? Spend your leisure time in one of the theaters - the Russian Drama Theater "Masters" (Akademika Rubanenko St., 7), the Fashion Theater, the State Tatar Drama Theater (Khasan Tufan Avenue, 15), the Youth Theater-Studio "Klyuch" or the Puppet Theater (Boulevard School, 2).
Speaking about cultural heritage, it is impossible not to mention the love of local residents for Vladimir Vysotsky . Passers-by told us that once Vysotsky came from Moscow to Chelny with a concert. Now, on the site of the hotel where he stayed, there is a monument made up of fragments of a bell, a star and a guitar. This composition is located at the intersection of Komsomolskaya embankment and Gidrostroiteley street. On the same street in house number 17 is the Vysotsky Historical Heritage Center. Most of the exhibits were borrowed from connoisseurs of the musician’s work.

The monument is located at the beginning of the industrial site of the Kama complex of truck factories, opposite the turn of the tram line running along Highway No. 1 to the residential areas of the Avtozavodsky district. A scraper and a bulldozer are installed on the top of a man-made hill, above which the flag of Tatarstan flutters. The monument was built in 1981 to commemorate the launch of the second stage of KamAZ. The authors of the monument are members of the famous Red Banner brigade of auto scrapers from the Kamgesenergostroy UMS, headed by the holder of two Orders of Lenin, Honored Builder of Tatarstan Umat Kambulatovich Naurbiev, who managed to unite the brigade, in which representatives of two dozen nations and nationalities of the Soviet Union worked together. Using this equipment, the Naurbievtsy performed a lot of land work during the construction of the automobile plant.
Holidays with children and more
Since we went on a trip with a child, it is worth mentioning several types of recreation that will be interesting, however, not only for children, but also for adults. For convenience, I will present them in the form of a list:
- Touching zoo (Panorama shopping center) in Naberezhnye Chelny . The child was delighted with the opportunity not only to look at the animals, but also to touch them. Hamsters, rabbits, turtles - they all easily make contact with humans.
- State Puppet Theater in Naberezhnye Chelny . Here you can watch fun and interesting performances. I was pleased with the acting: the whole audience laughed - both kids and adults. There is also a mini-zoo where children can admire the fauna.
- City Dolphinarium. The real pride of Naberezhnye Chelny, the only dolphinarium in the Volga region and the republic. Almost every day famous “artists” perform here - dolphins and a sea lion. Performances can be filmed with a camera and camera. Children can see little dolphins and ride on a boat. If you wish, you can swim in the company of dolphins. Theatrical performances and thematic programs are also held here, as well as a café and a photo studio.

Naberezhnye Chelny is not only a city of two religions and big cars, but also a place where every guest is greeted with joy and hospitality.
Every year a flower festival is held in Naberezhnye Chelny, during which the city acquires the brightest colors and bizarre shapes. Also, as already mentioned, Chelny is really very spacious, there are no constant crushes and traffic jams, people are not in a hurry and do not jostle on the streets.
Of course, this is a relatively young city, so you shouldn’t expect things usual for a metropolis from it. And despite this, a tour of Naberezhnye Chelny can be very interesting, since the city is developing at a very good pace and can rightfully be called a city of great opportunities and prospects.

Holidays for real men
Our trip was not complete without purely “male” places, which Naberezhnye Chelny is rich in. One of the institutions that can interest the stronger half of humanity is the Museum of History and Military Glory of the Automotive Troops . The idea of creating the exposition presented here belongs to DOSAAF KAMAZ. Among the exhibits are documents donated by the military, photographs, historical relics, and models of military equipment. Some of them talk about the exploits of Afghan drivers. The exhibition clearly demonstrates what the first military vehicles were like, as well as the process of creating automobile troops. The museum is located at st. Nizametdinova, 26.
Not far from the Kamaz stadium is the Grenada extreme park . Truck and car racing and bike shows take place here. Street racing competitions attract a large number of spectators. There is a bar and disco nearby.
Naberezhnye Chelny is a city that left the warmest and most pleasant impression. Unfortunately, we were not able to get to know Chelny better due to lack of time. Complex of avant-garde sculptures on Entuziastov Boulevard
It is one of the calling cards of Naberezhnye Chelny. The author is the sculptor Ildar Khanov, who worked on this complex for almost 10 years - from 1982 to 1991[6]. The complex includes such sculptures as “Confrontation” (“Family”), “Evolution” (1982), “Harmony” (1982), “Awakening” (1983), “Tree of Life” (1989), “Guardian Angel "(1991). According to Ildar Khanov’s ideas, the composition should have included several dozen sculptures. The material used for the sculptures was concrete with mosaics. Abstract forms covered with smalt do not have a clear volume and plastic mass.
Lake Lesnoe
Living in the city, you always want to relax in the fresh air. If you come here one day, this lake will remain your favorite place, because the wonderful beauty of nature will not leave anyone indifferent.
Here you can have a picnic, ride a bike through the forest, or work out on exercise equipment. There is also a children's playground nearby, so you can safely go here with children. By the way, there is a reason to return to the lake in winter - they organize slides with tubing.
Also, for people who prefer an extreme form of recreation, a rope town has been set up next to the lake. The Tulpar equestrian school is located nearby, so beautiful and fit horses often pass by here. Below we will tell you about the zoo, which is located at this school.
How to get there: stop Sports Palace, from there go straight towards the Kama River for 450 meters, then turn left and straight ahead for another 220 meters.
