Where you can go in Novosibirsk Interesting places Parks Temples Where to go with your child Stories, routes and tips from tourists with photos Where to stay in Novosibirsk Excursions

Novosibirsk is a popular tourist destination. The city is just over 100 years old, but it is already ready to amaze with interesting stories and sights. The capital of Siberia has entertainment for every taste - walking along the central streets and parks, exploring historical, art and ethnographic museums, ship cruises along the Ob.

Sights of Novosibirsk

The page presents the sights of Novosibirsk: theaters, cathedrals, architectural monuments, parks - with photos, descriptions, addresses.
Objects are given in a list and also marked on the general map. From the article you will learn what to see in Novosibirsk in one day and where to go if you are traveling with a child. Novosibirsk quickly covered the path from Krivoshchekovsky Vyselok, where several hundred people lived, to a million-plus city - a scientific, commercial, industrial and cultural center. It took him 70 years to do this, while Moscow became a millionaire in 700 years.

With the emergence of the Academy Town in 1959, and the Technopark in 2013, Novosibirsk has attracted the best scientists in the country. Academy Town is considered one of the best areas for living - mainly due to the ecology, since during construction the organic coexistence of man and nature was a prerequisite - therefore, it is worth going on an excursion, regardless of the degree of passion for science.

One of the symbols of the city is the Opera and Ballet Theater - a monumental building that can accommodate the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. The city is unthinkable without the Chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which at one time was considered the unofficial geographical center of the Russian Empire.

You can walk around Novosibirsk, especially without planning a route: no, no, another museum or theater will appear around the corner - the cultural life in the city is rich, which is obligated by its capital status (Novosibirsk is the center of the Siberian Federal District).

If you wish, you can read reviews about the sights of Novosibirsk: tourists who have visited the hospitable city share their emotions, tips and interesting routes.

Temples

The churches of Novosibirsk will be of interest primarily to believers. Very few ancient churches have survived; almost all the cathedrals of Novosibirsk were built in the 90s of the 20th century and in the 2000s. This is due to the fact that during the years of atheism, the Soviet government either demolished religious institutions or gave them away for warehouses or other needs, as a result of which the churches fell into disrepair.

The most famous and ancient shrines you will find on Krasny Prospekt are the Ascension Cathedral in Narymsky Square and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral opposite the Stokvartirny building. They store the relics of saints, valuable icons, and hold divine services.

There are also temples of other faiths in the city. Thus, the Catholic Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord and the Beit Menachem synagogue on Kamenskaya Street between the NOVAT and Globus theaters.

Are you going to the USSR Museum ? Then don’t forget to check out the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Oktyabrskaya Street. The wooden church, preserved after the major fire of 1909, which destroyed a significant part of the buildings of Novo-Nikolaevsk, is today considered an architectural monument.

Among the new buildings, you can visit the Trinity-Vladimir Cathedral or the Church of All Saints in the left bank part of Novosibirsk.

In 2022, the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called ; the building in the neo-Russian style decorated the Kalininsky district and became a place of attraction for pilgrims and tourists.

What to see in Novosibirsk in one day

You need to create a one-day itinerary depending on how grandiose your plans are. Do you want to run through the main attractions of Novosibirsk and simply “mark” it on the map, or feel the atmosphere of the city, understand its history, and feel the rhythm of life? In the first case, you will be able to cover as many monuments and temples as possible, in the second you will have to focus on something specific, for example, go to Academy Town.

You can spend a full day without leaving the center, limiting yourself to two metro stations - “Krasny Prospekt” and “Lenin Square”. It is outlined by Krasny Prospekt, Gogol, Ippodromskaya, Sibrevkom streets.

You can start your walk from Narymsky Square near the Krasny Prospekt metro station, where the Ascension Cathedral and the Novosibirsk State Circus are located. A short rest on a bench, ice cream, then down Michurina to the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater. Finally we are in the historical center.

Next, pave the way at your own discretion. At a distance of 5–10 minutes walk, the buildings of the Red Torch Theater, the Globus Theater, the Pobeda Cinema, and the Lenin House are interesting. The religious moment is associated with the inspection of the Chapel in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the synagogue and the Catholic Cathedral. It’s definitely worth walking to the Hundred Apartment House and the House under the Clock.

If you have time, you can end your busy day in one of the cozy central cafes.

Where to go with a child in Novosibirsk

The million-plus city, having provided a lot of entertainment for adult guests, has not forgotten about little travelers.

Without a doubt, boys and girls of all ages are worth taking to the Novosibirsk Zoo - one of the largest in Russia. And a day is not enough to get acquainted with all the animals that live here. On weekends, the alleys of the zoo are filled with children, young and old, but on weekdays there is always someone hanging around the enclosures. Polar bears are especially loved.

The Novosibirsk Water Park, the largest indoor water slide complex in the country, has gained enormous popularity as a family vacation destination.

Not far from the zoo lies the picturesque Zaeltsovsky Forest, and along it lies the Children's Railway, where boys and girls take on the adult roles of drivers and conductors.

A day spent at the Big Planetarium, which is located on the territory of the Klyuch-Kamyshensky plateau, quite far from the center, will be just as eventful. The resulting impressions are worth spending an hour and a half on the road there and back.

Another option for those who are not afraid of long trips. The Novosibirsk Open Air Museum of Railway Equipment displays more than 60 different types of steam locomotives, electric locomotives and carriages. You can even climb into some of them.

Travelers who are not ready to travel can limit themselves to walking around the center. The Central Park of Culture and Recreation, the city Puppet Theater or the Opera and Ballet Theater will brighten up your day off.

Interesting events

Every year, many events take place in Novosibirsk and the region: music and sports festivals, numerous holidays and folk festivals. If something is especially interesting to you, you can clarify the dates in advance and coincide your trip with the event. Let's see what events take place in the city during the summer season.

On the last Sunday of June, Novosibirsk celebrates “City Day” . The program always has a lot of interesting things: carnival processions, interactive platforms and photo zones, performances by the city’s masters of art, children’s and youth groups, auto and motorcycle shows, sports competitions and tournaments, demonstrations by extreme sports enthusiasts, master classes. In 2019, as part of City Day, an international flower festival was held for the first time, which ended with a carnival flower procession; they plan to make this festival an annual event. The City Day celebration ends with a fireworks festival on the Ob River “Lights in Honor of the Beloved City.”

One of the most attractive events for tourists in the Novosibirsk region is the international Russian festival of historical reconstruction “Siberian Fire” . It has been held annually in the summer since 2012 in the village of Bolshoy Oyosh, 50 kilometers from Novosibirsk. This major cultural and historical event attracts hundreds of historical reenactors not only from Russia, but also from countries near and far abroad. Dozens of historical camps and interactive sites take place on the festival clearing. The program includes a parade of historical reenactors, an exhibition of military and retro equipment from various times, demonstration performances, and battle reconstructions. This festival is one of the twenty best military-historical festivals in the country; it will be interesting for both adults and children.

The Airshow at the Mochishche airfield features dozens of aircraft and parachutists, the program includes demonstration performances of aerobatic teams, airplanes and helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces, DOSAAF aviation, performances of rare aircraft, an exhibition of military and civil aviation equipment of different years, vintage cars, bike club equipment .

Where to go in Novosibirsk in summer

On warm, sunny days in Novosibirsk, it is especially pleasant to walk around the zoo (it is better to set aside a separate day for it) and green, landscaped parks, where city music and creative festivals, holidays, historical reconstructions, and flash mobs are held on weekends.

Summer entertainment certainly includes outdoor attractions: there are classic carousels and slides in almost every major city park (Central, Birch Grove, Kirov Garden) and along the embankment. In Novosibirsk, several Ferris wheels operate simultaneously (in parks and near the shore), if you go around them all, you will be able to take a photo of the city from different angles.

A boat trip on the Ob River is only relevant in the warm season. A standard excursion lasts 2 hours and may be accompanied by a story from local historians about the city and its surroundings. Approximate route: Bugrinsky, Komsomolsky, Oktyabrsky, Dimitrovsky bridges.

Stories, routes and tips from tourists with photos

Before the trip, tourists collect information about the city, create approximate routes and must-see lists. This process should be approached especially carefully when there are only 3 days left. Real reviews and advice from tourists who have visited Novosibirsk will help with this.

Where to go in Novosibirsk in winter

The cultural recreation program in Novosibirsk is universal, but in cold weather, walks around the city inevitably have to be shortened, devoting more time to museums and warm pavilions at the zoo.

An original option for relaxing on a winter day is a trip to the Botanical Garden. Snow-covered park alleys with rare plants are available for walks; the winter caps of bonsai trees are especially surprising in the local landscapes. Tropical greenhouses are also available for visitors, where they can finally warm up and enjoy the bright greenery.

In the first half of January, tourists in Novosibirsk have the chance to catch the fragile street masterpieces of the Siberian Snow Sculpture Festival, which has been held in the city since 2000. Compositions of unpainted snow and ice are placed in the center - in Pervomaisky Square; they last for a month or a little longer, depending on the weather.

A good continuation of the festive winter theme would be a walk to the ice town on the embankment - the children will definitely enjoy it.

Where to stay in Novosibirsk

Novosibirsk ranks first on the list of the largest cities in Russia. There are no problems with housing for tourists, only if it is difficult to choose among the variety. The city has more than a hundred hotels, old-timers or new complexes, six of which are part of large global chains, offering eight times more apartments and a decent selection of forty hostels. Choosing housing in Novosibirsk will most likely require an integrated approach: taking into account location and price, star rating, visual attractiveness and personal preferences.

Maybe you want to stay closer to the park, for example, in Sosnovy Bor or Ramada Novosibirsk Zhukovka, to breathe the fresh air of the pine forest. Or check out the theater nearby, like the hotel, so you don’t have to go back too far in the evening. If you admire the sparkling panorama, choose housing in the center, near Krasny Street Avenue. Kirov, love the water landscape - apartments in high-rise buildings on the banks of the Ob River or River Park. Some of the hotels have a large swimming pool, sauna and spa center, where it is pleasant to relax after an exciting walk, or are located near city beaches, which is important in the summer. Various filters in the search engine will help you find your place of residence based on specific parameters.

The left bank of Novosibirsk: history

Initially, Novosibirsk was supposed to be located exclusively on the right bank. However, as they say, man proposes, but God disposes - and everything did not turn out as planned. However, first things first...

On the right bank of the Ob, the new city of Novonikolaevsk began to be built, which later became Novosibirsk. On the left bank was the village of Krivoshchekovo, with a history of more than two centuries at that time. Both settlements lived completely separately from each other, the residents did not communicate or meet in any way - there was no pedestrian bridge across the river yet, there was no opportunity for people to cross paths. Moreover, they lived in completely different time zones.

Residents of Krivoshchekov did not like the new settlers who came to the right bank (Novonikolaevsk was founded by the builders of the Trans-Siberian Railway), and therefore the city did not begin to develop on the second bank, despite the fact that it was the left bank that was more developed at that time. The Right Bank was, by and large, a wild wasteland, but due to the unfriendly attitude of the Krivoshchekovites, new settlers began to settle there. This continued until the thirties of the last century - only during that period did the upset Novosibirsk annex the territory of the former Krivoshchekov.

Initially, the left bank was represented only by the Kirovsky district. The entire left bank of Novosibirsk - it was all one big area. At first it was generally called Zaobsky, after the death of Sergei Kirov it was renamed Kirovsky - in 1934. Only much later was Leninsky separated from it; this happened in 1970.

To this day, there are only two districts on the left bank of Novosibirsk - the same Kirovsky and Leninsky. And, of course, there are far more streets. It is interesting that it is here, on the left bank of the city, that there is a whole large block of streets named after famous people. There is here the street of Stanislavsky, Nemirovich-Danchenko, Rimsky-Korsakov and so on.

Where to swim

In summer, everyone strives to find a place where they can swim. Residents of Novosibirsk have no problems with this; there is a wide choice of beach holiday options: on the banks of the Ob River, the Novosibirsk Reservoir or numerous lakes. The main thing is to choose a place that is allowed for swimming and meets all the necessary requirements for water quality and facilities, and the list of such places is published annually by Rospotrebnadzor before the official opening of the beach season.

The Zvezda beach is popular on the shores of the Ob Sea, half an hour’s drive from Novosibirsk. It has everything you need for relaxation: well-groomed territory, water attractions, many cafes. You can also order a place to relax in gazebos with barbecues or a summer guest house. This is one of the safest beaches, there is a rescue tower and a first aid station, and the territory is controlled by security. Parking is paid, but access to the beach is free. Here you can take part in holidays with foam parties, and they also organize quests for children.

beach Sun City has a lot to offer for relaxation : water activities, beach volleyball courts, sports equipment rentals, numerous fast food outlets and cafes, you can rent houses and gazebos with views of the Ob Sea.

the beach “Near the Ob Sea” is perfect , where you can rent catamarans and sun loungers, trampolines for children, water attractions, and kiosks with food and soft drinks. The Bugrinskaya Roshcha beach is popular , where the choice of entertainment is not so varied, but prices are lower, both for attractions and food, and a variety of sporting events are regularly held.

Many bodies of water do not receive official permission for swimming due to difficult terrain, fast currents or water quality, but not everyone pays attention to this. Usually in the summer the banks of all reservoirs are occupied by vacationers, despite the prohibitions.

Metro

The metro in the secret Siberian capital is, in principle, quite small, there are only two lines and a little more than a dozen stations. And on the left bank of Novosibirsk there are only two of them - “Marx Square” and “Student”.

The first one is located on the square with exactly the same name. This is a kind of center of the coast, including transport. The station was opened in 1991, although its launch was originally planned a year earlier. Due to the changes that began in the country, this was not destined to come true.

The station is the final station and is located in the Leninsky district of the city. By the way, an interesting fact: it was “Marx Square” that became the very last metro station opened in the Soviet Union. She appeared in July 1991, and a month later the Soviets ordered her to live long.

As for the “Student” station, it immediately precedes the “Marx Square” and is also located in the Leninsky district of Novosibirsk, on the left bank. It has been in operation a little earlier - since 1986.

Attractions

You should definitely visit Stanislavsky Square and stroll along the street of the same name – it is rich in examples of architecture from the Stalin era. You also definitely need to see the Glory Square - a place where several monuments are located at once: for example, a monument to the Siberians who participated in the Great Patriotic War, the Walk of Fame with a hundred Christmas trees planted in honor of the Heroes of the Soviet Union from Novosibirsk, steles with the names of more than thirty thousand who fell in battles of Novosibirsk residents and much more.

On the left bank of Novosibirsk there are several parks and gardens where you can take a walk and admire the beautiful views. For example, in the Kirov Garden, in addition to attractions and fountains, there is also a sundial. And in Bugrinskaya Roshcha, a park on the banks of the Ob River, among other things, there is an observation deck that offers a beautiful view of the bridge of the same name, as well as the right bank. Or you can simply walk along the streets of the city and turn your head around - this way you will also discover a lot of interesting and surprising things.

Excursions around Novosibirsk

For those who do not want to plan routes on their own, we advise you to contact local travel agencies and book a sightseeing tour of Novosibirsk.

There's plenty to choose from. The guides will show you famous sights of the right or left bank, pre-revolutionary houses and monuments of constructivism, walk with you around Voenny or Akademgorodok, and introduce you to sculptures and street art of Novosibirsk.

There are also thematic programs. For example, a pilgrimage tour of temples and chapels, trips around the evening city or photo walks. In addition, Novosibirsk is known as the Russian rock capital of the 80s and 90s. You will walk through the places where Yanka Diaghileva, the groups “Kalinov Most”, “Industrial Architecture” and other famous Siberian musicians lived and performed.

Boat trips

From the pier at the River Station, motor ship cruises along the Ob and the Ob Sea are organized. Book a 2-hour tour of the bridges, a tour to Berdsk, or a trip to the lock and hydroelectric power station. Accompanying guides will tell the history of Novosibirsk and Berdsk, and reveal the secrets of the Ob Sea and the Berd River.

In the evening, entertainment and romantic tours start. Along with the guests, musicians, DJs and presenters ride on the ship, entertaining them with competitions and dances.

Hotels

A ten-minute walk from the Studencheskaya metro station is the Gorsky City Hotel - quite expensive, but, of course, very comfortable and with service at the highest level. The cost of one night there starts from three thousand rubles. A restaurant, bar, conference rooms, more than two hundred and sixty rooms - all this can be found in this hotel on Nemirovich-Danchenko Street.

A lower rank is the City Hotel on Blucher Street, also not far from Studencheskaya. A night's stay in this hotel will cost two hundred rubles less. However, there are far fewer rooms here - only sixty.

The third possible option among the hotels in Novosibirsk on the left bank is Mirotel. It is located on Karl Marx Square, the cost of accommodation depends on the number of guests and the period for which the room is required.

“All the secret factories are visible from here” – the main unfinished construction project in Novosibirsk comes to life

The main historical attraction of the area is a favorite place for newlyweds to take photographs. Flowers are brought to the Eternal Flame, schoolchildren keep a vigil of honor all year round, mothers and children walk in the park behind the steles and amateur athletes run in the mornings.

In 2022, the Monument of Glory won the vote for an improvement project, but after repairs, roller skating, skateboarding and bicycles will be prohibited near the monument.

Trinity-Vladimir Cathedral

The picturesque square of the Western Housing Estate has become one of the favorite places of residents of the Leninsky district not so long ago. Just 20 years ago everything here was in disrepair. Now, among the neatly trimmed lawn and smooth bushes, paths have been laid, benches and street lighting have been installed.

The monument to Prince Vladimir became the decoration of his favorite public garden. Photo by Victor Borovskikh

In 2008, the Trinity-Vladimir Cathedral and a landscaped public garden appeared. And quite recently, near the gates of the Orthodox Cathedral, instead of a stele in honor of the “Unity of the Slavic Peoples,” a six-meter monument to Grand Duke Vladimir was erected. The height of the sculpture itself is more than four meters. The statue is raised another two meters by a pedestal.

Nail on Studencheskaya

A giant three-meter nail-monument appeared near the Studencheskaya metro station at the end of February 2022. The art object is decorated with two inscriptions on one side: “Be strong”, and on the other, “Forget everything.”

Perhaps the authors “said hello” to the students in this way. Today, a nail sticking out from under the asphalt near the Amsterdam shopping center is a favorite place for young people to take selfies.

House on Stepnoy

42 years ago a terrible tragedy occurred in Novosibirsk. “On September 26, 1976, an An-2 plane flew into a five-story residential building on Stepnaya Street, 43\1. So one local pilot decided to take revenge on his wife and mother-in-law, who lived in this house, for the insults inflicted on him. Moreover, the pilot’s relatives were not in the house at that moment,” says Alexander Matveev, author of the TopNsk blog.

This is what the house looked like after the tragedy on Stepnaya. Photo from the VN.ru archive

At the time of the disaster, 12 residents died - some were unable to get out from under the rubble of the house, some died from burns, and others were killed when they jumped out of the windows of the burning house.

Aquapark Novosibirsk

On the left bank of the Ob, a hundred meters from the river, there is a local attraction - the Novosibirsk water park, the bright dome of which can be seen from both the left and right banks. The opening took place on November 7, 2016, the media called the cost of the water park about 3 billion rubles.

Demolition of the Metallist cinema has been suspended - details

The incidents began almost immediately after the opening: a thin girl got stuck on the slide after she was unable to do a loop. On another slide, a 21-year-old visitor suffered a spinal fracture and was taken to hospital. And in January 2017, a seven-year-old boy got his leg stuck between the wall and the aluminum fence of one of the attractions. Despite rare emergencies, the Novosibirsk water park is loved by both city residents and guests from other regions.

Theaters

There is only one theater on the left bank of Novosibirsk, and it is called, surprisingly, “On the Left Bank”. Its history begins with an ordinary drama club, the life of which changed dramatically in the late fifties of the last century, when a graduate of the Leningrad Theater University ended up as a director there.

The drama club turned into a studio school, and existed in this form until 1993 - then the Novosibirsk Philharmonic took it under its wing, and the theater began to be called the Philharmonic. The temple of Melpomene received its present name twenty-one years ago - in 1997. The theater's repertoire is mainly dramatic.

Educational establishments

There are more than enough schools on the left bank of Novosibirsk. Among them there are regular secondary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, and special correctional institutions. There is even a Siberian Cadet Corps! In general, you can choose an institution for your child to suit every taste.

The following establishments received the greatest number of positive reviews:

  • Secondary school No. 210 in the Gorsky microdistrict.
  • Gymnasium No. 16 on Parkhomenko (it is considered French).
  • Secondary school No. 128 on Vertkovskaya.
  • Secondary school No. 49, school on Urmanova.
  • The second Novosibirsk gymnasium on Kievskaya street.
  • Secondary school No. 40 on Krasheninnikova.
  • University Gymnasium No. 14 on Karl Marx Avenue.
  • Secondary school No. 192 on Chigorina.
  • Lyceum No. 136 on Kosmicheskaya.
  • Secondary school No. 27 on Plakhotnogo.

Shopping centers

There are many shopping centers on the left bank of Novosibirsk. This is “Mega” - it is located on Vatutina Street and is one of the largest shopping and entertainment centers in the city on the Ob River. Directly next door to Mega is the only IKEA store in Novosibirsk, where not only residents of this glorious city, but also neighboring ones come.

Another shopping mall on Marx Square. It has not only shops and a food court, but also a children's entertainment complex. In addition, it is worth mentioning these (also on Marx Square) and “Continent” on Trolleynaya.

Museums

On the left bank of Novosibirsk, on Parkhomenko Street, there is a wonderful Museum of the History of the Development of the Leninsky District. It has both permanent and periodic exhibitions. The temporary ones are most often thematic, but the permanent ones present a variety of household items, documents, products from industrial enterprises, photographs and much, much more, which give an idea of the life of this area of Novosibirsk in the early years.

This is brief information about the infrastructure of the left bank of the city of Novosibirsk. Come there yourself and you will love this wonderful city with all your heart!
