Divnogorsk

(Russian: Divnogorsk, IPA: [dʲɪvnɐˈɡorsk]) is a town in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, located on the Yenisei River, 40 kilometers (25 mi) southeast of Krasnoyarsk, the administrative center of the region. Population: 28,272 (2010 Census);[3]30,137 (2002 Census);[8]29,963 (1989 Census).[9]

Story

Paleolithic remains discovered on the western outskirts of the city indicate that the land was inhabited more than ten thousand years ago.

Where the city stands, there was the village of Ovsyanka (Russian: с. Овсянка), founded in 1671.

In 1888, on the site of the modern Divnogorsk chastity priest Philaret, the Krasnoyarsk Znamensky male monastery was founded (closed in 1920); construction of which began on August 19 of the same year. Over time, the monastery turned into the village of Skete. The monastery operated a brick factory, a tar factory, a candle factory, and various workshops. The monastery was the first above the Krasnoyarsk pier, where the ships landed on the sandy shore just below the Filaretov stream. All that remains of the monastery buildings is a wooden two-story house, converted from an old church (now art studios are located here). At the beginning of 1920, the monastery was closed and turned into an orphanage; in 1921, it was transformed into children's labor camp No. 2 for orphans. In 1930, the orphanage and the experimental forestry and subsidiary farm of the Krasnoyarsk Forestry Technical School were disbanded in the village. At this time there were about a dozen families. Received city status in 1963.[2]

Embankment today

Over the past two years, the embankment of Divnogorsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, has been the main attraction and pride of the city. It is divided into several zones:

  • alleys and islands for secluded walks;
  • upper terrace overlooking the Yenisei and the Marvelous Mountains (here are the “bar stools” popular with local residents);
  • a small children's park, climbing wall and skate park;
  • wooden benches in the shape of mountains, sun loungers, swings and sports equipment.

In the evenings, beautiful lighting turns on. Various festivals and city celebrations often take place here.

The transformation of space is best seen if you compare new photos (2021) of the Divnogorsk embankment and its photographs before reconstruction.

In the center of the square there was a large flowerbed, pedestrian paths abutted against a granite parapet, and there were no descents to the Yenisei. Currently, more than 10 areas for active recreation of children and adults have appeared on the same site.

IT IS IMPORTANT! To ensure accessibility, the upper and lower tiers of the embankment are connected by two slopes for people with limited mobility.

Where to relax

In addition to the square with comfortable benches and sun loungers, where you can relax in the shade of the trees, you can look into the cafes located along the boulevard. On the coffee island on Pionerskaya Square you can buy delicious coffee, and buy fresh baked goods at the nearby supermarket. Go to the makeshift bar on the upper terrace and relax while contemplating the beautiful view of the mountains and the Yenisei.

You can taste delicious pizza at the Krusevac pizzeria, and have a snack and relax on the summer terrace at the Thermos cafe. There is a small catering outlet in the information center, at the western pier.

Things to do

Divnogorskaya embankment is an ecologically clean place; the Yenisei in these parts is crystal clear. The main feature of the boulevard is the view of the Marvelous Mountains. You can enjoy it while leisurely strolling along the alleys and landscaped islands. Here you can also go down to the water and feed the ducks.

In the summer, a climbing wall and a skate park are open for young people; children can spend time in an amusement park and on playgrounds.

For athletes and people leading an active lifestyle, anti-vandal sports equipment and bicycle paths have been installed on the embankment.

There are binoculars installed on the upper terrace, with which you can see the inscription “Divnogorsk” located in the mountains opposite, and simply admire the panorama of the Marvelous Mountains.

Don’t forget to also take memorable photos with the Yenisei in the background near the wooden inscription “Wonderful” located on the upper tier.

The pavilion of the information center houses sanitary and hygienic areas, a mother and child room, a souvenir shop and a security point.

What to see nearby

In Divnogorsk there is a monument to the first builders of the hydroelectric power station, erected in 1974. It is made in the form of a symbolic tent of pioneer builders.

It is worth taking a look at the hydroelectric power station itself. This is the second most powerful power plant in Russia, it is located in the west of the city.

You can also visit the Art Museum on Nagornaya, 12. It is considered one of the most interesting in the region. After the museum, go down to the arboretum, which is located on the territory of the Znamensky monastery. This is where the history of the city begins.

There are not many attractions in Divnogorsk, but the city, thanks to the new promenade and beautiful views of the mountains and the Yenisei, is a point of attraction for tourists from all over the region.
