History[edit]

Petrovsk is an ancient merchant city, founded by the personal decree of Peter the Great in 1698 to protect the region from the raids of the Crimean Tatars, and also “so that from now on free people would not come to the outlying cities and would not arrive. do not repair the ruins..." According to legend, the founder personally visited the city in 1707. The construction of the Peter's Fortress was of great importance for its time, since the land road from Tsaritsyn to Moscow ran from Saratov through Atkarsk and Penza, as well as along the sparsely populated banks of the river. The bear abounded in bandits of robbers who robbed those passing along the road. A fortified guards line with settlements began from Petrovsk. The fortress itself had a tetrahedral shape, it was surrounded by double oak walls with 8 towers covered with logs. Inside the fortress there was the Peter and Paul Cathedral, voivodeship mansions, stables, an archive, and barns. Since 1780, the district town of the Saratov province. The city's coat of arms is a vowel. On July 23, 1928, the city became the center of the Petrovsky district of the Saratov district of the Lower Volga region (since 1936, part of the Saratov region).

Population of Petrovsk

In recent years, the population of Petrovsk has exceeded 29 thousand people. Now this has given it the opportunity to take 529th place among 113 cities in Russia. According to one of the first censuses conducted in the Russian Empire in 1856, 9,600 citizens lived here.

During the Second World War, 9 thousand people went to the front, and a little more than 3.5 thousand returned.

The population gradually grew, and the city's economy developed along with it. In the 1970s, a brick factory, a dairy factory, and its own furniture factory began operating here. A pig farm and a poultry farm took care of supplying citizens with food.

Now the main jobs are created by such enterprises as the electromechanical plant, where instruments for shipbuilding are created, the AMO ZIL plant, which produces spare parts for branded cars, and the gas transportation enterprise Petrovskoe Linear Production Directorate, which provides control over underground gas storage. It has its own bakery, Petrovsk Bread.

Sovetskaya 45, in the former building of a real school from the beginning of the 20th century, there are now many different organizations. Rosselkhozbank is the former county treasury. The district house of culture is the former building of Prosyankin’s manufacturing store (1878). The former religious school (Sovetskaya no. 80) is currently in need of renovation. Former women's gymnasium. Now it is the building of the Petrovsky district administration. The historical building of Peter's hospital. Now it houses the administration of the medical institution. Additional plantings have appeared. All the townspeople got involved in the work. In the early 50s, the total area under the “green miracle” was 52 sectors. Our forest is valuable, primarily not as a source of wood, but as a protector of soils from water and wind erosion, as a keeper and regulator of fresh water, and as a place of recreation. There is an opportunity to go ice skating at the skating rink near the House of Physical Education, which is located at the intersection of Sovetskaya and Gogol streets. In the evening you can go to the Dolphin swimming pool, where there is a sauna. In summer, guests can enjoy fishing on the Medveditsa River. The name of our river is mentioned in documents from the 16th century. This is a river in the European part of Russia, a left tributary of the Don. The bear lies on the southwestern slopes of the Volga Upland.” The river originates from two rivers - the Malaya and the Big Bear, emerging from springs two kilometers from the village of Borisovka, Bazarnokarabulak district. After the confluence of these two rivers, the Medveditsa makes its channel in the territory of the Petrovsky district, and then the Atkarsky, Lysogorsky, and Kalininsky districts. It flows into the Don on the territory of the Volgograd region near the city of Serafimovichi. From source to mouth it extends for 745 km, of which 600 km are in the Saratov region. Back in the 18th century. The Bear was a navigable river. Merchants floated goods from Atkarsk to the Don. At dawn in the Medveditsa River you can catch pike, crucian carp, perch, burbot, and ruffe. And if the guests are not fishermen, then you can swim and sunbathe on the local beach. The water in the river is clean and cool. Holidays in the area will also be interesting for hunting lovers. The fauna of the local forests is rich and unique: here you can find elk, wild boar, roe deer, raccoon dog, squirrel, white and brown hares, marten, weasel, forest dormouse, forest or black ferret. Among the birds you can find black grouse, cuckoo, woodpecker, nightjar, thrush, and also feathered predators - falcon, hawk, jay, owl, eagle owl and owl. Within the city we have a recreation park. Here you can watch friendly football matches between local teams of young men training in the House of Physical Education, wander along quiet alleys, enjoy the sound of the water of the Medveditsa River, the singing of birds, and go to a cafe for a snack. Summer tourists in the vicinity of Petrovsk will be greeted with mushrooms and berries. If you wish, you can take a car trip to the springs. One of them is located two kilometers upstream of the Medveditsa River, the other near the village of Khomyakovka, the third in the Zotov ravine, which is on the road to the village of Dubrovka. Already a tradition in the Petrovsky district is the Petrovskaya Motor Sloboda festival, held annually in the village of Gudoshnikovo. The festival involves bikers not only from Saratov and other regions of the Russian Federation, but even from foreign countries. The festival includes a motorcycle rally around Petrovsk, a rock concert; an archery tournament, enduro-cross competitions (a discipline of motorsports and cycling), as well as folk festivities. You won't be bored in the evening either. Kinokontsertny, which is located near the railway station, will invite you to watch a feature film. In the district House of Culture at st. Moskovskaya 86, creative groups from other cities of the Saratov region often perform.

Conclusion Today the history of our region continues. And our task is to ensure that not a single page of it remains unknown, because this is how the connection of generations, the connection of times is built. Our work will be of great practical importance. It can be used to organize excursions around Petrovsk. Our work can be used in geography lessons, local history, and in extracurricular activities to expand knowledge about the nature of the region, its history and to cultivate love for one’s small homeland and pride in it and oneself. Our project will make you look at our city, the nature of the region, historical and cultural sites with new eyes and will contribute to the development of the historical city - the city of Petrovsk. As a result of the successful implementation of the project, there will be: 1. A positive image of the small homeland has been formed among the natives and residents of Petrovsk. 2. Guests of the city will get acquainted with the historical, cultural and natural attractions of their native land.

Coat of arms of Petrovsk

The coat of arms of Petrovsk was created taking into account the main values for its residents. It was not created anew, but was given to its residents along with the history of the locality. It belongs to the vowel category, which means that one of its elements directly matches the name of the city.

In the upper half is the coat of arms of the Saratov governorship, three silver sterlets, in the lower half is a hand emanating from a cloud, in a red field, holding two keys. The hand belongs to the Apostle Peter and emphasizes the importance of the city as a castle, locking the area from robbers.

The name of St. Peter recalls the founding emperor of the city. In an unapproved version, the coat of arms was supposed to be surrounded by golden ears of corn, which emphasized the importance of the area as a granary.

An excerpt characterizing Petrovsk (Saratov region)

On Pratsenskaya Mountain, in the very place where he fell with the flagpole in his hands, Prince Andrei Bolkonsky lay, bleeding, and, without knowing it, moaned a quiet, pitiful and childish groan. By evening he stopped moaning and became completely quiet. He didn't know how long his oblivion lasted. Suddenly he felt alive again and suffering from a burning and tearing pain in his head. “Where is it, this high sky, which I did not know until now and saw today?” was his first thought. “And I didn’t know this suffering either,” he thought. - Yes, I didn’t know anything until now. But where am I? He began to listen and heard the sounds of approaching horses and the sounds of voices speaking French. He opened his eyes. Above him was again the same high sky with floating clouds rising even higher, through which a blue infinity could be seen. He did not turn his head and did not see those who, judging by the sound of hooves and voices, drove up to him and stopped. The horsemen who arrived were Napoleon, accompanied by two adjutants. Bonaparte, driving around the battlefield, gave the last orders to strengthen the batteries firing at the Augesta Dam and examined the dead and wounded remaining on the battlefield. - De beaux hommes! [Beauties!] - said Napoleon, looking at the killed Russian grenadier, who, with his face buried in the ground and the back of his head blackened, was lying on his stomach, throwing one already numb arm far away. – Les munitions des pieces de position sont epuisees, sire! [There are no more battery charges, Your Majesty!] - said at that time the adjutant, who arrived from the batteries that were firing at Augest. “Faites avancer celles de la reserve, [Have it brought from the reserves,” said Napoleon, and, having driven off a few steps, he stopped over Prince Andrei, who was lying on his back with the flagpole thrown next to him (the banner had already been taken by the French, like a trophy) . “Voila une belle mort, [This is a beautiful death,”] said Napoleon, looking at Bolkonsky. Prince Andrei realized that this was said about him, and that Napoleon was saying this. He heard the one who said these words called sire. But he heard these words as if he heard the buzzing of a fly. Not only was he not interested in them, but he did not even notice them, and immediately forgot them. His head was burning; he felt that he was emanating blood, and he saw above him the distant, high and eternal sky. He knew that it was Napoleon - his hero, but at that moment Napoleon seemed to him such a small, insignificant person in comparison with what was now happening between his soul and this high, endless sky with clouds running across it. He didn’t care at all at that moment, no matter who stood above him, no matter what they said about him; He was only glad that people were standing over him, and he only wished that these people would help him and return him to life, which seemed so beautiful to him, because he understood it so differently now. He mustered all his strength to move and make some sound. He weakly moved his leg and produced a pitying, weak, painful groan. - A! “He’s alive,” said Napoleon. – Raise this young man, ce jeune homme, and take him to the dressing station! Having said this, Napoleon rode further towards Marshal Lan, who, taking off his hat, smiling and congratulating him on his victory, drove up to the emperor. Prince Andrei did not remember anything further: he lost consciousness from the terrible pain that was caused to him by being placed on a stretcher, jolts while moving, and probing the wound at the dressing station. He woke up only at the end of the day, when he was united with other Russian wounded and captured officers and carried to the hospital. During this movement he felt somewhat fresher and could look around and even speak. The first words he heard when he woke up were the words of the French escort officer, who hurriedly said: “We must stop here: the emperor will pass by now; it will give him pleasure to see these captive gentlemen. “There are so many prisoners these days, almost the entire Russian army, that he probably got bored with it,” said another officer. - Well, however! This one, they say, is the commander of the entire guard of Emperor Alexander,” said the first, pointing to a wounded Russian officer in a white cavalry uniform. Bolkonsky recognized Prince Repnin, whom he had met in St. Petersburg society. Next to him stood another, 19-year-old boy, also a wounded cavalry officer. Bonaparte, galloping up, stopped his horse. -Who is the eldest? - he said when he saw the prisoners. They named the colonel, Prince Repnin. – Are you the commander of the cavalry regiment of Emperor Alexander? - asked Napoleon. “I commanded a squadron,” answered Repnin. “Your regiment honestly fulfilled its duty,” said Napoleon. “The praise of a great commander is the best reward for a soldier,” said Repnin. “I give it to you with pleasure,” said Napoleon. -Who is this young man next to you? Prince Repnin named Lieutenant Sukhtelen. Looking at him, Napoleon said, smiling: “II est venu bien jeune se frotter a nous.” [He came young to compete with us.] “Youth doesn’t stop you from being brave,” Sukhtelen said in a breaking voice. “Excellent answer,” said Napoleon. - Young man, you will go far! Prince Andrei, who, to complete the trophy of the captives, was also put forward, in full view of the emperor, could not help but attract his attention. Napoleon apparently remembered that he had seen him on the field and, addressing him, used the same name of the young man - jeune homme, under which Bolkonsky was reflected in his memory for the first time. – Et vous, jeune homme? Well, what about you, young man? - he turned to him, - how do you feel, mon brave? Despite the fact that five minutes before this, Prince Andrei could say a few words to the soldiers carrying him, he now, directly fixing his eyes on Napoleon, was silent... All the interests that occupied Napoleon seemed so insignificant to him at that moment, so petty seemed to him his hero himself, with this petty vanity and joy of victory, in comparison with that high, fair and kind sky that he saw and understood - that he could not answer him.
