The village of Dagomys is located on the territory of the Krasnodar Territory in the Lazarevsky district of the city of Sochi. History of Dagomys

The names of settlements in the Krasnodar Territory are often of Adyghe origin. In the language of the ancient population of these places, the word “Tygyemyps” means “Shady place”. Less likely is the “Dead Forest” option. There is also a version that until the middle of the 19th century, the princely family of Dagomuko, who belonged to the Ubykh people, lived in the valley of the local river.

The first people appeared on this site back in the Stone Age. The dolmen culture reminds us of them. In antiquity, the eastern coast of the Black Sea was explored by the Greeks and Romans, and in the Middle Ages the Byzantines and Italians settled here.

In 1864, the Caucasian War ended and the indigenous population of these places, the Ubykhs, moved to the Ottoman Empire. Their villages were empty and settlers from the Russian Empire began to develop the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. The first Russian settlement at the mouth of the Dagomys River was named Kuban Post.

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, representatives of the elite of the Russian Empire, including Emperor Nicholas II himself, began to buy land plots in Dagomys. A farm arose on the royal plot, managed by Prince Uspensky.

During the Soviet era, the sanatorium industry began to develop here and furniture production appeared. The 1970s in the history of Dagomys were marked by the fact that the construction of hotels was carried out by a company from Yugoslavia. Perhaps thanks to their efforts, the local hotel complex became one of the most comfortable in the late USSR.

The 27-storey complex “Dagomys” was built in 1982. During the years of the USSR, it was subordinate to Intourist and served as a vacation spot for foreign guests. Since 1994, the Administration of the President of Russia has been responsible for the facility. At the moment, it consists of two buildings - “Main” (4*) and “Mercury” (5*).

The complex has a large selection of accommodation options, depending on the services provided and the type of room. For example, in January 2022, 2 guests can stay for 3 nights for 23 thousand rubles. One of the cheapest options. On the territory there is an arboretum, swimming pools with heated sea water, catering establishments, a 1.5 km long beach and other facilities.

Boarding house "Olympic-Dagomys"

The resort complex, which accommodates over 600 guests, is located next to the previous one, but operates seasonally from May 1 until the end of November. On its territory there is a park with gazebos and decorative light figures, as well as a 120 m long beach. There is everything you need for relaxation.

Hotel Henry I

Conveniently located 50 m from the sea, and from the station it takes 5 minutes to walk. The hotel is 3* class, it has 33 rooms for 100 people. There is billiards, a swimming pool, and a restaurant. Among the shortcomings, guests note a modest breakfast and a railway nearby. Good for family holidays.

Cozy budget hotel 500 m from the sea. On site there is a heated swimming pool, a mini club and a playground for children, a swimming pool, parking, a bar and a restaurant. Hotel Yuzhny

The building is opposite the railway platform on Letnaya Street. On the other side of the tracks is the beach. Adjacent to it is a residential complex with the strange name “Caravel of Portugal”. Rooms in “Yuzhny” are for 2-6 people, for guests there is a cafe with breakfast for 300 rubles, as well as parking, a swimming pool, bike rental, a sauna and other amenities. The hotel is 2* class, so a number of services are available to guests only in the neighboring Health Complex. But prices for accommodation are low, from 1200 rubles. for a double room. Nearby there are a couple of interesting objects - a suspension bridge and a cafe with Ossetian pies.

At the end of 1942, the village was not far from the front line, which ran near Tuapse. In 2015, on the territory of the Dagomys health complex, a monument to the heroes of the Second World War was unveiled in the form of a sword stuck into the ground with the inscription “70 years of peace.” This work became the debut for the architect Afanasy Kartasi. The monument is adjacent to an alley of cypress trees.

One of the most unusual sights of the village. Many houses on stilts stand near pier No. 260, which is located closer to the mouth of the Dagomys River near the railway bridge. You can admire them from the side of the suspension bridge. Some of the houses resemble residential garages.

Uspensky Mountain - “Uspenka”

The 150-meter mountain can be seen from almost anywhere in the village. In shape it resembles an isosceles pyramid. The local legend about the Cossack Georgy Uspensky, who died heroically in the Russian-Turkish war, tells how its name appeared. Vintage Car Museum

Vintage cars look funny among tropical vegetation, and a tractor from the first half of the 20th century is adjacent to beautiful wooden sculptures. Among the exhibits you can note an ambulance similar to the one in the film “Prisoner of the Caucasus,” as well as cars from the Second World War and models from the 1950s to 1970s, for example, Chaika and GAZ-69. But what the exhibits are missing is the Colchis truck, which was produced during the USSR in neighboring Georgia. Apparently, they all fell apart and none of them made it to the museum. Visitors are not allowed to sit in cars.

The Antique Auto-Moto Museum is interesting because it was created on the basis of a local tea factory, so it turns out that you can combine an inspection of retro equipment with tea drinking. Employees offer visitors home-produced tea from a nearby plantation and inexpensive baked goods or bagels to go with it. And the collection of samovars is worth admiring.

Village Solokhaul

A small village on the banks of the Shakhe River north of Dagomys. The date of its foundation is considered to be 1887, and its first name was Pokrovskoye. It is located at an altitude of 387 m above sea level, from which it is separated by 33 km. The village has only 200 inhabitants, but the national composition is diverse - Russians, Circassians, Armenians. The surrounding area is mountainous and the nearest peak is Mount Zubtsy with a height of 900 m.

The name has nothing to do with Gogol’s Solokha, but comes from the Adyghe “Aul Sheolukha”. In the vicinity of Solokhaul, dolmens, ancient burial structures that are several thousand years old, have been preserved. The Adygs left these places at the end of the Caucasian War, that is, around 1864, and 20 years later Russian settlers from the central provinces began to settle here.

An important milestone in the development of the village was 1901, when breeder Judas Koshman established tea plantations. At that time they were the northernmost in the world. The name “Solohaul” appeared in 1921. Nowadays it is worth visiting to admire nature and visit local attractions.

Koshman House Museum and Tea Museum

Judas Antonovich Koshman is the first person in modern history who began to grow tea in the North Caucasus. He came from the Chernigov province and in his youth worked on the tea plantations of Adjara. In the first years of the 20th century, his family moved to the outskirts of Sochi, where the agronomist established tea plantations. In 1923, at an agricultural exhibition in Moscow, Judas Koshman received a gold medal “For the most northern tea in the world.”

The museum opened in 2007. Visitors are offered three types of excursions - without tea, with tea and with tasting. The first excursion involves a tour of the estate and a story about the exhibits, the second includes tea with a samovar, honey and pancakes. The third is a set table plus the attributes of a gastronomic tour.

From May to August you can take part in the collection of tea leaves. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The local store's assortment of tea, honey, and nuts includes almost 100 items.

Monastery of the Cross Hermitage

Created in 1997. It is interesting in that it was conceived as a monastery with the Athos charter and Serbian-Russian spiritual unity, which is reminiscent of the inscriptions in two languages on marble tiles. The monks like that Solokhaul resembles the holy Mount Athos in Greece, and therefore hermit monks settled there at the beginning of the 20th century. In the monastery you can see various relics, icons and sources of holy water.

Chapel of the Icon of Our Lady of Three Hands

Mount Fisht

Translated from the Adyghe language, its name means “White Head”. The height of the mountain is 2867 m and it is part of the Fisht-Oshten ridge. Geologists have established that Fisht is older than the Black Sea, more than 250 million years old.

Endemic plants grow on the slopes of the mountain, and its alpine meadows are inhabited by dozens of species of birds and other animals. Large rivers of the Republic of Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory originate from the top.

The weather on Mount Fisht is unpredictable, and the amount of precipitation reaches 3000 mm per year, which is a kind of record for the European part of Russia. It is cold at the top, so you should climb there between April and October as part of a group.

On the slopes of the mountain there are hard-to-reach caves, where visitors are allowed only as part of professional speleological groups. The main stadium of the Sochi Olympic Park is named after the mountain peak.

9 km north of the village of Dagomys there is one of the most beautiful objects of the Sochi National Park, open to the public from 9 to 21. If you look at the map, you will notice that two rivers of the same name flow north of the village of Dagomys. The length of the Eastern Dagomys River is 19 km and one of the rapids forms a waterfall, which was named after the slow-growing evergreen shrubs and trees popular in the subtropics. It is surrounded by mountains up to 620 m high and a relict forest of emerald color. Oak, hornbeam and cherry laurel grow nearby. The water is clear, with a blue tint. Not far from the waterfall there is a cafe that serves honey and herbal tea. In winter, the waterfall is visited by “walruses” - lovers of swimming in cold water, and in summer - by horseback tourists.

Relaxing in Dagomys only for the purpose of swimming and sunbathing will be quite boring. Therefore, it is worth exploring interesting places nearby by booking some kind of excursion.

Visiting the Circassians + waterfalls

If you want to look at the life of the Circassians, you can choose a trip along the Ashe River valley. Tourists are taken in a GAZ-66 to an Adyghe family, who will treat them with honey and wine. Next we plan to visit the waterfalls on the river. The largest of them, Shapsugsky, has a height of 21 m. On the way back there will be dinner with the Circassians and an incendiary show.

For lovers of waterfalls, take the “33 Waterfalls” excursion along the Shahe River valley. Her program also includes a visit to the Circassians with tea drinking and honey tasting.

Mount Akhun

One of the most interesting sights of Sochi is Mount Akhun. You can also book an excursion there to visit the 30 m high tower. It is not ancient, as it might seem, built in 1936 in 3.5 months. On the slope of the mountain there is the Great Akhunskaya Cave, and near the tower there is a restaurant and an observation deck.

Krasnaya Polyana

Abkhazia

Olympic mini golf club

Located on the territory of the Olimpiysky-Dagomys sanatorium on the street. Leningradskaya 7. It is considered the first mini-golf club in the entire Krasnodar region. The site was created in 1981 and 26 years later underwent reconstruction. It began to be used as a training base for the Russian mini-golf team. Since the fall of 2007, the club has opened a children's and youth mini-golf sports school. The club has an 18-hole course, the only one in Russia.

Entertaining

By bus No. 147 and 169 in Dagomys you can get to the “Avtomagazin” stop. It is adjacent to a couple of shops and an entertainment center with a karaoke bar and restaurant. Reviews from vacationers about it and the work of the staff vary, from admiring to negative. The complex includes a hotel, a banquet hall and a children's playground with slot machines.

Cafes and restaurants

Catering establishments are often located at hotels, where they can offer accommodation with meals for an additional fee, about 800 rubles.

If you want to eat cheaply, then on the embankment near the public beach you should go to the “Ivushka” dining room (Baltiyskaya str. 6). It is open from 8 am to 8 pm. Lunch for 4 persons costs 1000 rubles. Reviews from tourists about it are contradictory. Some people like it, but others complain about the quality of the dishes.
Here, on the embankment (Baltiyskaya str. 2/4), there is a restaurant with the strange name “Album”. The choice is large - breakfasts, cold appetizers, pizza, as well as dishes of Russian, Caucasian, Italian and Vietnamese cuisine. From 200 to 700 rub. per dish.
Not far from the Suspension Bridge there is a canteen “At Lida’s”, and on the Batumi highway, near the “Canyon” construction market and the intersection with Rossiyskaya Street, there is another canteen, where the menu prices are often indicated not per dish, but per 100 grams.
