Perm is a city in the Urals, the administrative center of the Perm region. It stands on the banks of the large Kama River, below the mouth of the Chusovaya River. Perm stretches along the Kama River for as much as 65 km and in terms of area (800 sq. km) it is the fourth city in Russia (after Moscow, St. Petersburg and Volgograd). The name of the city is pronounced with a soft “r”. This is contrary to the rules of the Russian language, but this is how it happened historically.
