Report to the project

My hometown is Irkutsk. This is a large industrial center of Eastern Siberia. It is located on the Angara River, several tens of kilometers from the famous Lake Baikal.

History and symbols

The city's flag is two-colored, white with a blue stripe at the bottom. On it, as well as on the coat of arms, a black babr is depicted holding a caught sable in its teeth.

Irkutsk was founded in 1661 and at first was a simple stronghold.

Later it became a major trading center through which caravans traveled to China.

Industrial development began in the last century, when a railway line was built through Irkutsk.

Modern Irkutsk

Now it is a large industrial and cultural center of the region, home to over 600 thousand people.

It is home to several large enterprises and hydroelectric power stations. There are several universities and their own Academic Town.

The local history museum has a huge collection of exhibits; there are several theaters, libraries, and palaces of culture.

In Irkutsk you can still find ancient buildings that give it its unusual flavor.

Attractions

The main attraction of the city is the Epiphany Cathedral, one of the oldest buildings. It is located on the beautiful Angara embankment, which is called Nizhnyaya.

It is interesting to stroll along this embankment, admiring the numerous monuments and the river itself.

You should definitely visit the famous 130th quarter, a complex of ancient buildings that takes us back to the beginning of the last century.

Another important attraction should be considered the Botanical Garden, which contains over 5 thousand species of various plants.

Memorable places of military glory

We sacredly honor the memory of the heroes who died during the Great Patriotic War.

On the Lower Embankment there is a memorial, near which the Eternal Flame burns. The names of those who died defending their native country are engraved on the marble slabs standing around.

On Sovetskaya Street there is a T-34 tank, which reached Prague during the war.

Conclusion: why I love my city Irkutsk

My city is one of the best in the world, and I love it very much. I love its streets and avenues, its parks and squares, the best monuments in the world. I love its architecture and its people.

I wish my city to become even better, more beautiful and cleaner. So that only kind and good people live in it.
