Creative project “Monuments to poets and writers in the city of Voronezh” project on local history (grade 7) on the topic

History has prepared an amazing fate for Voronezh. It was founded as a fortress in 1586 and for a long time defended the borders of the Moscow state from the attacks of its southern neighbors. Having survived the Time of Troubles, the policy became at the end of the 17th century. the largest shipbuilding cluster in Russia, and in 1725 the capital of the province. The first Russian battleship and other warships that formed the basis of the Azov Fleet left the shipyards of the Voronezh Admiralty. Industry and trade developed rapidly in the city, and after the revolution a university appeared. During the Second World War, it became an insurmountable barrier for the Wehrmacht troops, shackling for 7 months a significant group of fascists rushing to Stalingrad. In the post-war period, Voronezh became one of the main industrial centers of the country. Supersonic airliners TU-144 and wide-body IL-86 were produced here. The famous RD engines of the Voronezh KBHA still launch spaceships into Earth orbit. The city with a population of one million, living a rich business and cultural life, is very beautiful. The sights of Voronezh, photos and brief descriptions of which you will find in the article, will satisfy the needs of the most sophisticated traveler.

Admiralty Square

  • Address: st. S. Perovskaya. Transport stop "Admiralteyskaya Square".

The main visiting card of Voronezh, undoubtedly, is the magnificent Admiralty Square. The grand opening of the recreation was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Navy, celebrated in 1996. The landscape and architectural ensemble includes the Assumption Admiralty Cathedral, an elegant arcade. The dominant feature of the composition is the majestic rostral column. The majestic structure, 28 meters high and decorated with the rostra of ships, seems to grow from its base in the form of the famous Voronezh plow. There are ancient ship cannons along the embankment. The floating museum “Goto-Predestination” is moored to it.

Monument to Peter I

  • Address: Petrovsky Square. Transport stop "Petrovsky Square".

Voronezh owes a lot to the first Russian emperor. Under him, the city rose to prominence and became a stronghold for gaining control over the Sea of Azov. Therefore, the fact that one of the first monuments to the reformer tsar appeared here is not surprising. The pedestal for the statue took almost a year to build. For this purpose, 7 massive granite slabs and a huge boulder were delivered to the city from the Pavlovsk quarries. When the pedestal was ready, a bronze figure of Peter the Great was installed on it. It looks very realistic. The emperor's facial features repeat the death mask, the details of the costume are worked out to the smallest detail. During the Second World War, Petrovskaya Square found itself in the occupation zone. The Nazis removed the statue from its pedestal and sent it to be melted down. Only in January 1956 did a copy of the sculpture take its rightful place.

The main building forms a single volume with a refectory and a four-tier bell tower. The church contains the relics of the Hieromartyr Peter, Saints Tikhon of Zadonsk and Mitrofan of Voronezh.

Memorial on Victory Square

  • Address: Victory Square. Transport stop "House of Officers".

The city sacredly honors the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for their Motherland during the Second World War. In their honor, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Victory, a memorial complex was solemnly opened on the square of the same name. Its dominant feature is a sculptural composition of 12 figures mounted on a pedestal lined with red granite. Bronze sculptures depict Soviet soldiers of all branches of the military, fighters of partisan detachments and militia, home front workers, a woman-mother with a baby in her arms. The torch of the Eternal Flame burns in front of the monument. Along the perimeter of the square there are granite slabs containing the names of the military units that defended the city. The ensemble is completed by a double 40-meter stele, the pylons of which are connected in the upper part by a sculptural embodiment of the Order of the Patriotic War.

Frigate "Mercury"

  • Address: Voronezh Reservoir.

The masters of the Ramon shipyard, located along the banks of the Voronezh River, were able to do so at the beginning of the 18th century. surprise sophisticated European shipbuilders by creating excellent warships that brought the Russian fleet dominance in the Sea of Azov. A reminder of this is a life-size model of the 26-gun frigate Mercury, placed on a pedestal in the middle of the Voronezh Reservoir. The prototype of the monument is the barcalon “Mercurius”, which took part in the Kerch campaign of Peter the Great, received holes and sank, but was raised and served the St. Andrew’s flag for a long time. Over time, the attraction began to look even more colorful. The concrete base has deviated from the vertical due to subsidence of the soil, which makes it seem that the frigate is heading towards the target against the winds and waves. In winter, you can reach the monument on the ice of the reservoir; in summer, pleasure boats stop at it.

  • Address: Chernyakhovsky Square. Transport stop "Voronezh-1 Station".

The appearance in the city of a monument to the talented commander I. D. Chernyakhovsky, who commanded a tank corps during the defense of Voronezh, was preceded by a not very pleasant story. As you know, the legendary army commander, twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, died on the territory of East Prussia. The monument to the commander of the army as part of the 3rd Belorussian Front, which liberated the Baltic states from the Nazis, was erected in 1950 in Vilnius. In the early 90s of the last century, Lithuania was swept by a wave of nationalism. The statue was removed from its pedestal and was about to be destroyed. Only through the efforts of the city department of culture and the command of the Voronezh garrison, the monument was preserved. He was transported to Voronezh and installed on a pedestal in the center of the square named after the hero in 1993.

The façade of the mansion is decorated with semi-columns, an attic with sculptures placed in niches and heraldic high relief. During the Second World War, part of the façade and all the ceilings collapsed. It took several years to restore the original exterior of the structure. Nowadays the building is in excellent condition. It houses the structures of the city administration.

Monument to Saint Mitrofan

  • Address: Pervomaisky Garden. Transport stop "Pervomaisky Garden".

The monument to Bishop Mitrofan of Voronezh, a companion of Peter the Great, canonized in 1832, appeared in the city relatively recently, but has already become one of the iconic landmarks. In the center of the composition stands a granite pedestal, on which is placed a bronze statue of the saint blessing his flock. There are 4 pylons around the pedestal, each of which is crowned with a bronze figure of an angel standing on a ball. The attributes in the hands of the angels in an allegorical form narrate the glorious deeds of the saint.

South Eastern Railway Management Mansion

  • Address: Revolution Avenue, 18. Transport stop “Petrovsky Square”.

In the 20s of the last century, the city authorities decided to unite the various structures that were part of the management of the South Eastern Railway, placing them in one place. For these purposes, a building was built in the constructivist style. During the Second World War it was very badly damaged and needed large-scale reconstruction. This time the architects moved away from simple solutions and created something special. The exterior of the mansion was decorated with arches, columns, vignettes, cartouches, relief rosettes, and rustication. At the junction of the portals, a 68-meter tower was erected, topped with a spire with a five-pointed star. In its upper third there are large dials. The masterpiece of the Stalinist Empire style still evokes admiration.

Monument to White Bim

  • Address: Revolution Avenue. Transport stop "Puppet Theatre".

The monument to White Beam, the hero of the famous story by G. Troepolsky, is not distinguished by its impressive size or historicity. This does not prevent the statue of a dog, which has become a symbol of the selfless devotion of dogs to humans, from enjoying the special love of townspeople and tourists. Newlyweds, children, and guests of Voronezh enjoy taking pictures near the incredibly expressive sculpture made of stainless alloy. One of Bim's ears is bronze. There is a belief that any wish you make will come true if you rub it.

The first mention of the Assumption Church in chronicles dates back to 1594. The church acquired its current exterior and admiralty status at the beginning of the 18th century. Since then, the launch of any warship built at the Voronezh shipyards was not complete without a service within its walls. Already in the 19th century, a refectory and a bell tower were added to the main volume, the exterior corresponding to the canons of classicism. During the time of persecution of religion, the building housed first the Regional Archive, and then a branch of the local history museum. The church was returned to the diocese in 1996. Divine services are held here on Orthodox holidays and on weekends. The main temple relics are considered to be the images of Mary Magdalene the Weeping, Nicholas the Wonderworker, warrior Fyodor Ushakov, and the Jerusalem Cypress Cross.

The exterior of the temple is no less impressive. Its walls and dome are covered with frescoes. In the iconostasis you can see ancient icons and wonderful examples of “new writing”. Pilgrims are attracted to the cathedral by the miraculous image of the Mother of God of Iveron, the icon of Seraphim of Sarov and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with particles of relics.

In 1620, the Voronezh lands survived the invasions of the Cherkasy and Lithuanians. The invaders failed to conquer the local residents, who were able to give a worthy rebuff to the enemy. In honor of this event, a men's monastery was founded in Akatova Polyana and a wooden church was erected in the name of St. Alexis of Moscow. In the middle of the 18th century. a new church was built from stone. At the same time, on the territory of the monastery, surrounded by walls, the buildings of the refectory, the buildings of monastic cells and the abbot appeared. During the years of Soviet power, the property of the monastery was confiscated, and the monastery itself was abolished. The monastery was returned to the diocese in 1989. Currently, all surviving buildings, including the bell tower - a unique monument of pre-Petrine architecture, have been restored. The main shrine of the monastery is considered to be the myrrh-streaming image of the Life-Giving Spring. Thousands of pilgrims come to the monastery to pray at the miraculous icon of St. Panteleimon.
