Solnechnogorsk is located 44 km from the Moscow Ring Road in the northwestern direction of the Moscow region. It is connected to the capital by the Leningradskoye and Pyatnitskoye highways. As well as a railway connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg (the Podsolnechnaya train station is located within the city);
Metro stations where you can transfer to transport to Solnechnogorsk: “Komsomolskaya”, “Petrovsko-Razumovskaya” (railway), “Rechnoy Vokzal”, “Vodny Stadion”, “Tushinskaya”, “Mitino”, “Skhodnenskaya” (buses and minibuses).
Why Solnechnogorsk?
Previously, there was no settlement of the same name on the territory of the modern city; 12 villages and hamlets were located in these places. Among them were Spasskoye-Teleshovo, Nikolskoye-Gushchino, and Gomzino. It is the last village that is considered the ancestor of the city of Solnechnogorsk. What did the inhabitants of these places do, besides farming? The clue is in the name of the settlement. It was located on the way from Moscow to Veliky Novgorod, and “gomza” means wallet. When St. Petersburg was built, a highway connecting the two great cities passed through Gomzino. Presumably, the main activity of the village is trade. Residents were also engaged in yam cartage, crafts, and brick making.

Later, for no apparent reason, the village began to be called Solnechnaya Gora. The most acceptable explanation for this fact is provided only by a local legend. In 1767, very early in the morning, Catherine the Great arrived at the village. The rising sun illuminated the surrounding beauty, the delighted empress exclaimed: “Oh, what a wonderful sunny mountain!” The population of Solnechnogorsk unconditionally believes in this beautiful legend.

A travel palace and a hotel were erected here, and a second postal station appeared between the two capitals. After the construction of the Nikolaev railway, the Podsolnechnaya station appeared on the outskirts of the village, and the palace building lost its original purpose. Built in 1810 and an architectural monument, it still adorns the city today. It houses the historical and cultural museum.
Real estate
The city's development is very diverse. In some areas, modern new buildings in Solnechnogorsk coexist with houses dating back to the 19th century, serial 5-story buildings from the post-war 1950s, and panel houses from the 1970s.
It should be noted that, unlike many cities near Moscow, Solnechnogorsk has avoided mass development in recent decades. This means that there are enough infrastructure facilities for all residents, the load on utility networks is within normal limits, and the construction of their house was not preceded by the cutting down of wonderful relict forests.
The emergence of Lake Senezh
It is impossible to imagine a modern city without this attraction. And once upon a time there was no trace of him here.
A decision was made to build the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Solnechnogorsk, too, found itself in the middle of the journey of delivering materials from the upper Volga. Only the route was by water. And in 1825 they began building a shipping canal across the Dubna, Sestra and Istra rivers. To regulate the water level in the canal, a dam was erected, which formed Lake Senezh. The length of the dam was two kilometers.
Construction lasted 25 years, but the hydraulic system worked for only 10. The new railway, which opened traffic in 1851, turned out to be more cost-effective and fast.
In memory of this project, the townspeople have a wonderful lake Senezh with an area of 7 km2. It is the largest in the Moscow region. Not only local residents, but also Muscovites come to relax on this reservoir, admire its beauty, swim, play sports or fish. 10 km from the lake (in Shakhmatovo) is the estate of A. Blok.
Spasskaya Church
This temple is a historical and cultural monument of federal significance.
It traces its history back to the wooden church of the same name in the village of Spasskoye-Teleshevo. In 1759, the current stone temple was built in its place. In the middle of the 19th century, the church was rebuilt, as a result of which it acquired a modern appearance. Spasskaya Church
This is a temple of the “octagon on a quadruple” type with an altar, a vestibule and a bell tower in three tiers, raised to a high basement. On the sides of the temple there are open galleries (gulbischas) on arcades. The painting on the vaults and walls dates back to the mid-19th century, with later renovations.
Under Soviet rule, this Solnechnogorsk church did not close.
Address: st. Spasskaya, 12/1.
Sovetskaya Square
The main square of Solnechnogorsk has changed a lot in recent years. This is a place for celebrations and events, a meeting place and walks for citizens.
In summer there is a fountain, beautifully illuminated in the evening. But this is a place not only of joy, but also of sorrow. It is here that many of the monuments dedicated to the defenders of the Fatherland are installed. Monuments were erected in different years to participants in various military actions.
Shakhmatovo Estate
Lesnoy park hotel, pawn village, Solnechnogorsk,
In the former estate of the poet Alexander Blok, Shakhmatovo, there is a museum-reserve, which includes part of the territory of the village of Tarakanovo, in the church of which the poet married the daughter of the great Russian scientist Mendeleev.
Shakhmatovo Estate
The grandfather of the great poet Alexander Blok was the famous botanist Andrei Nikolaevich Beketov. It was he who originally owned the Shakhmatovo estate. Beketov acquired a “corner of paradise” near Moscow in 1874 on the advice of a friend, Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev. He also lived not far from here. And when Alexander Blok married Lyubov Mendeleeva, the friends became related.
Monuments on Soviet Square
Immediately after the Great Patriotic War, in 1947, a monument to those who died in the battles for the city was erected here, and in 2007 a memorial “Solnechnogorsk Residents - Defenders of the Fatherland” was opened. People's gratitude does not diminish over the years. In the same year, a monument to “Solnechnogorsk residents who died in local wars” was unveiled. These are not all the memorial signs installed here.
War came to the city of the sun in November 1941. For 24 days he was in the power of the Nazis. The surrounding villages were destroyed and people died. But the city itself did not suffer significant destruction; the German invaders were knocked out during the offensive operation near Moscow.
At the 40th kilometer of the Leningradskoye Highway there is a monument to Glory. On the high mound there are three steles and three bayonets in honor of the three branches of the military. This is a mass grave, and it was from here that the remains of the Unknown Soldier were removed in 1966 and buried near the walls of the Moscow Kremlin.
And although the population of Solnechnogorsk is small compared to Moscow, its residents are firmly bound by the memory of December 1941, which marked the beginning of the great feat of the liberating heroes.

City outskirts
The population of Solnechnogorsk loves not only their city, but also its surroundings. The Serednikovo estate complex is located on the territory of Solnechnogorsk district. This beautiful place near Moscow has its own interesting history, which began in 1775. Vsevolod Alekseevich, an actual state councilor, decides to build a large house with outbuildings, a park, and ponds. Over the years, the building was rebuilt and improved, but the buildings always remained snow-white and symmetrical, reminiscent of a flying seagull.
In 1825, the estate was bought by the brother of M. Lermontov’s grandmother, Dmitry Alekseevich Stolypin. From 1829 to 1831, the young poet spent the summer months here. Dramas, poems and poems written by him in these places are known.
Later the estate will be sold to the Firsanov family. Vera Ivanovna uses her own money to build a railway station nearby, which is still called “Firsanovka”. Being a great admirer of M. Lermontov’s talent, she commissions the sculptor A. Golubkina to create a bust of the poet, and paints the ceiling of the oval hall with illustrations for the poem “The Demon.”
During Soviet times there was a sanatorium here, then the buildings stood abandoned for a long time. And finally, in 1993, the National Lermontov Center opened here.
Territorial structure
Solnechnogorsk district from 2001 to 2003 included 1 city of regional subordination (Solnechnogorsk), 3 urban-type settlements (Andreevka, Mendeleevo, Povarovo) and 11 rural districts: Andreevsky, Vertlinsky, Iskrovsky, Kirovsky, Kutuzovsky, Moshnitsky, Obukhovsky, Peshkovsky, Podolinsky, Pyatnitsky, Rzhavsky, Sokolovsky, Solnechnogorsky .
From 2003 to 2006 the number of rural districts was reduced to 10, and the number of towns increased to 4: the Rzhavsky rural district was abolished, and its constituent villages of Rzhavki and the village of New Rzhavki were merged into a new town (worker village) of Rzhavki.
The city of Solnechnogorsk from 1960 to 2001. as a city of regional subordination, it was not part of the district.
To Solnechnogorsk municipal district from January 1, 2006 to January 9, 2022[5] included 11 municipalities, including 5 urban and 6 rural settlements[32]. How to get to Solnechnogorsk from Moscow?
You can get there by car along Leningradskoe Highway. The M10 highway passes through the city. Travel time is no more than an hour, provided there are no traffic jams. And they are almost always available in this direction, so it is more convenient to use the toll highway.
Bus No. 437 “Moscow – Klin” departs from the Vodny Stadion metro station every half hour and follows the Leningradskoye Shosse. Required stop: Solnechnogorsk, there is the same problem of traffic jams.
The most convenient option is the railway. All trains coming from Leningradsky Station in this direction with a stop in Solnechnogorsk are suitable. Time spent: 1 hour 20 minutes. And if you choose the Moscow – Tver train, you will save 20 minutes.

Features of accommodation
The territory of Sheremetyevo Airport is adjacent to Solnechnogorsk, so there is a complex of warehouses and logistics enterprises serving the airport.
There are places to work in the city. Local industry is represented by asphalt concrete and instrument factories, polymer and metal mesh factories, metal products and an experimental mechanical plant; there is confectionery production, concrete and polymer production, printing and food production, not to mention the activities of small and medium-sized enterprises and individual entrepreneurs.
Thus, city residents and those who are just considering real estate in Solnechnogorsk have an alternative - to work in the city, in the capital or nearby large cities (Khimki, Klin).
St. Nicholas Church
The elegant red and white building, designed in the neo-Russian (“pseudo-Russian”) style, was built in 1874-1879. and replaced the ancient and dilapidated (1777) wooden church of the same name.
It is interesting that during the Soviet period this temple remained operational: it passed the fate of many churches destroyed or given over to warehouses by militant atheists, so the interiors remained intact.
St. Nicholas Church
Next to the church there is a cemetery, the attraction of which is the chapel-tomb on the grave of Alexander Ilyich Glazunov, a prominent Russian book publisher and translator of the second half of the 19th century.
Address: st. Telnova, 1.
