Chelyabinsk Arbat

First of all, in Chelyabinsk you should go to the most beautiful and memorable street in the city. The idea to create your own Arbat appeared in 2000: as a result, part of Kirov Street turned into a real cultural masterpiece. Young and cozy “Kirovka,” as it was affectionately nicknamed by local residents, has become a place where mass celebrations and flash mobs take place, musicians sing songs, and artists offer their canvases. There are also many attractions of Chelyabinsk, including preserved unique old merchant houses, nice bronze sculptures and interesting monuments. Chelyabinsk Arbat creates a special spiritual atmosphere.

Main attractions of Chelyabinsk: TOP-5

The city carefully treats historical and cultural monuments acquired in different eras. Among the diverse sights of Chelyabinsk, photos and descriptions of which you will find on the page, it is worth highlighting several particularly significant ones.

Monument to the Founders

  • Address: st. Kirov. Transport stop "Geological Museum".

At the beginning of Kirov Street, which the townspeople themselves call Chelyabinsk Arbat, there is a wonderful monument to the founders of the city. The place was not chosen by chance. It was here that a fortress was built in 1736, giving rise to the Ural metropolis. A rectangular tower with battlements and a large dial rises on the pedestal. The high spire of the dome is crowned with the figure of the Archangel Michael, as if hovering above the street. At the base of the tower there are bronze sculptures of a Bashkir - the indigenous inhabitant of the land, a peasant who built the fortress, a Cossack who defended the city from enemies, and the head of the garrison A. Tevkelev. The monument, made of concrete, is lined with slabs of gray marble. The dome and spire are covered with gold.

Complex of buildings of South Ural University

  • Address: Lenin Avenue, 76. SUSU transport stop.

During the Second World War, not only many factories were moved to the Urals, but also a number of educational institutions designed to train qualified personnel for production. On the basis of one of them, the Stalingrad Mechanical Institute, the South Ural University was organized in 1943, which by the middle of the last century became the largest university in the region. At the same time, a complex of 7-story buildings was erected, consisting of a main and two auxiliary buildings connected by passages. During the reconstruction carried out in 1999-2003, the main building acquired a new look. The building has grown by 11 floors. A magnificent tower was erected on its roof, topped with a spire with a double-headed eagle, rising 86 m above the ground. The side pylons are decorated with sculptures of Nike and Prometheus. For more than 15 years, the Palace of Science in the Stalinist Empire style has been one of the main symbols of Chelyabinsk.

Sculptural composition “Tale of the Urals”

  • Address: Station Square. Transport stop "Railway Station".

The magnificent monument, personifying the fortitude, power and inflexibility of the character of the Urals - one of the main foundation stones on which the power of Russia is based, is an iconic landmark of Chelyabinsk. The Russian hero, glorified in Bazhov’s tales, leans on a huge hammer and proudly looks into the distance. At his feet is a mountain of stone blocks, crushed by a mighty hand. The sculptural composition made of granite, 12 m high, is placed on a pedestal trimmed with marble slabs. V. Zaikov’s creation makes a stunning impression.

"Good Angel"

  • Address: Victory Garden. Transport stop "Victory Garden".

The city sacredly honors the memory of the heroes who did not return from the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War. In 2008, a monument was erected in Victory Square, which immediately took its place among the main attractions of Chelyabinsk. A 10-meter marble column placed on a pedestal is crowned with a gold-plated sculpture. An angel standing on a hemisphere symbolizing the globe releases a dove of Peace into the sky. The monument looks both majestic and elegant.

Lenin Mausoleum on the Scarlet Field

  • Address: Scarlet Field Square. Transport stop "Scarlet Field".

The unique monument-mausoleum can undoubtedly be considered one of the iconic sights of Chelyabinsk, despite the ambiguous attitude towards the figure of the leader of the world proletariat. The incredibly beautiful building, erected in 1925 under the leadership of the famous Vera Mukhina, is distinguished by its eclectic style. Egyptian obelisks and antique columns, oriental arches and European cast iron coexist perfectly in its exterior. Bronze bust of V.I. Lenin by V. Kozlov, installed in a deep niche on the second floor, to which two staircases lead.

Church of the Holy Trinity

Another interesting attraction of Chelyabinsk, a must-see, is the Trinity Cathedral. It was originally a modest wooden structure erected in 1829. In 1914, the building could no longer accommodate all the believers, so the church was dismantled, and a cathedral with a bell tower was erected in its place. During the years of Soviet power, the domes were dismantled, and the building itself was converted into a local history museum. In 1990, the cathedral was finally returned to the diocese. As a result of long and complex work, the temple was restored to its former grandeur: the unique painting in the Vasnetsov style and acoustics were restored.

Arena "Tractor"

One of the most visited tourist places in Chelyabinsk is the Traktor Arena. The modern ice rink was designed with the greatest possible comfort for its spectators. The three-story building, the construction of which began in 2007, is designed in high-tech style. The main feature of the arena is the ability to quickly transform into a stage within a couple of hours, without the need to defrost the ice. Thanks to this, in addition to sports matches and competitions, the arena can host concerts and exhibitions.

Chelyabinsk Puppet Theater

One of the oldest theaters in the Urals was created by the Garyanovs, who moved to the city in the 1930s. It all started with the purchase of the mysterious two-hundred-year-old Parsley, which inspired the couple to work with dolls. Initially, the theater staged individual productions, and after 5 years it received state status, after which its first season took place and it received its own building. A year later, the country's first studio producing puppeteers was created. Now this is a cozy building, similar to a tower from fairy tales, where performances aimed at the youngest spectators are regularly held.

This is one of the five Russian theaters with which the creative activity of the famous actor, director and puppeteer Valery Volkhovsky was associated. He was the main director here in 1977-1987, this era is considered “golden” in the history of the theater, in 2006 the institution was named after him.

The modern repertoire includes performances of different genres and formats, for children and adults. There are productions that involve both people and puppets. Fairy tales based on classic children's works by K. Chukovsky, L. Carroll and other authors are popular.
