The small town of Tuapse on the Black Sea coast is a popular place for relaxation and restoration of health, because the climate here is mild, nature is amazingly beautiful, the ecological situation is good, and the developed tourism infrastructure allows you to spend time in a variety of ways (from hiking and diving to museums, parks, water attractions, excursions to caves and waterfalls, clubs and bars).
The Tuapse region began to develop as a resort area during the Soviet period, and currently there are about 300 sanatoriums (often with swimming pools and SPA complexes). Numerous boarding houses, hotels, and recreation centers are located along the entire coast near beaches (mostly pebble), surrounded by picturesque forests and mountains.
The Tuapse region is attractive as a long-term holiday destination also because of the relatively affordable prices for accommodation and food compared to Sochi and Adler and the cleaner sea compared to Gelendzhik.
Holidays with children in Tuapse are becoming more and more comfortable thanks to the installation of special children's playgrounds, reconstruction of attractions and the ability to easily and quickly get to water parks and a dolphinarium located near the city, and go to a children's theater. It is also easy to organize meals for children due to the abundance of cafes (there are also canteens) with simple, tasty dishes of good quality.
City view
What you need to know about Tuapse: location features and areas of the city
Tuapse is located both on the coast and in a picturesque mountainous area (with forests and cliffs by the sea). The beach area of the city stretches for 10 km.
Urban areas and suburbs are spread between the beds of 2 rivers, one of which is called Tuapse, and the other is Pauk. The mountains surrounding the city are part of the southern slope of the Caucasus Range. But the average height at which the buildings are located is only 44 m above sea level. That is, the city is located mainly in the foothills and valleys.
The highest point is located north of Tuapse (Mount Messazhai 651 m high). The outskirts of the city are adjacent to the vast Kadosh forest park. The population of the city is about 60 thousand people.
Tuapse on the map:
City districts: where is the best place to live?
You can conditionally divide the entire territory of Tuapse into 8 districts. In the northwest (towards Novorossiysk) is Primorye (there are both multi-storey buildings and the private sector). A good option for accommodation, as there are many relatively inexpensive hotels.
Beach in Primorye
The Grozneft district (southeast) is mainly occupied by factory buildings and old houses; a very busy highway to Sochi passes through it. Not the best option for living. There is a large shopping and entertainment complex "Red Square" here.
The area with the telling name Sortirovka is located around the railway station. Built up with 5-story buildings from the 50s. Located on the right bank of the river (Tuapse) in the direction from the center to the mountains.
The Zvezdny district is located on the mountain slopes and is built up mainly with panel high-rise buildings of 5-10 floors. During the autumn-winter period, it is very windy here, which, combined with rain, creates not the most pleasant living conditions. In summer and spring it is comfortable here; the high-rise buildings offer good views of the sea.
In a small gorge there is the Barsova Shchel district, with low houses (private sector). There are also new monolithic houses here. The road to Dzhugba passes through the area. The area with colorful southern buildings is quiet, but far from the sea.
The Calarasi area is named after its main street. Located away from the sea, built up with new houses with good infrastructure. Accommodation prices are low.
Park in the central area
The microdistrict that connects all the others is Central. Here are most of the attractions and the main street for walking - Primorsky Boulevard. Accommodation costs a little more than in other areas. There are many hotels and guest houses of different levels of comfort.
The Kadosh area is surrounded by forest. Newly built cottages are located here. Accommodation options include small houses in picturesque areas. The descent to the sea is long and quite steep.
Guam Gorge
In one of the most tourist places, pristine nature has been preserved.
Photo: Our Planet To admire the gorge, you will have to travel quite a distance from Tuapse - to the Absheronsky district. But believe me, it's worth it.
They say this place resembles Switzerland, but it seems more like space. You will touch pristine nature - the gorge looks the same as it looked hundreds and thousands of years ago. There are high (up to 40 meters) waterfalls, boxwood thickets, winding mountain rivers, and thermal springs.
The gorge formed between the Lagonaki and Guama ridges, Western Caucasus. During the Great Patriotic War, the gorge played an important role: fascist trains were exterminated here.
The place is very touristy, and there is an entrance fee. It will cost you 500 rubles. You can even stay overnight at a recreation center here. There are also tourist trailers running through the gorge!
You can get here either with a tour, or to the village of Guamka by car, or to Apsheronsk by bus and then by minibus.
What's nearby and how to get to Tuapse
Tuapse is located 103 km south of Krasnodar, the capital of the region. The largest resort, Sochi, is located 78 km to the south. The nearest airports are in Adler, Krasnodar and Gelendzhik. The cheapest tickets for flights to Krasnodar.
Getting to Tuapse from Krasnodar airport is the fastest way. You can do this by bus, which comes from the central bus station (a minibus goes to it from the airport) or by high-speed train “Lastochka” (train station opposite the Bus Station). The road takes. A bus ticket costs 500 rubles, a railway ticket – from 300 rubles. A taxi ride will cost 3,500 rubles.
From Adler Airport you can get to Tuapse by train (with or without a transfer). Ticket price – from 300 rubles. The bus ride from Adler takes 2 hours longer.
Those who like to travel by car can reach the city via the highway. First the M4 leads to Dzhubga from Krasnodar, then the E-592, and along the coast - the E-97.
Perun Waterfall
Hard to reach, but such a beautiful waterfall.
Photo: Chernomorie.rf This waterfall is the highlight of not only Tuapse, but the entire Krasnodar region. Its height is 33 meters and it is truly incredible.
Everyone knows about him, but few come to see him. Although it is located very close to Tuapse. The fact is that the path here is thorny: you need to get to the Dachnaya stop, and then walk. But, making your way through the boulders, you will admire the dolmens (ancient burials, we will talk about them later).
The road is winding, and there is no point in describing it. We recommend that you navigate using the navigator (just in case, take a screenshot of the map if the Internet suddenly disappears).
Also, be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Defense Museum
The museum is quite new - it is just over 20 years old.
Photo: Localway The Great Patriotic War played a significant role in the history of the city of Tuapse, and it is worth paying tribute to those events whenever possible.
The museum consists of two halls. The first hall contains exhibits of the defensive operation in Tuapse (the most striking exhibit is a diagram of military operations on the Black Sea coast), and the second is dedicated to the memory of the city’s defenders (there is a diorama reproducing the view of Tuapse from the destroyed library).
The museum is located on Karl Marx Street.
Sycamore Alley
The alley holds the record for the longest in Europe and in the world.
Photo: Around Russia by car Let’s switch from natural attractions to urban ones. Plane tree alley in Tuapse is the longest in Europe and the second longest in the world! Its length is more than 2 km. By the way, the alley starts from the Kiselev Museum, which we described above. Another alternative option for continuing the excursion if after the museum you don’t want to go to the rock.
This is the very heart of Tuapse - here you will feel how the city lives. Even though the main street is always a rather pop attraction, it is still a must-have.
The whole crowd is here: restaurants, hotels, shops and clubs. And, of course, plane trees, which are already more than 100 years old.
Embankment
Classic tourist attraction.
Photo: Parks and embankments of Russia Another poppy, but beautiful and must-see place. You will probably visit the embankment during your holiday in Tuapse.
There are museums, monuments, a picturesque view of the control tower, and singing fountains - in general, everything a tourist’s heart desires. And also a view of the port, where ships from all over the world have been coming to for more than 100 years.
It won't be boring in Tuapse. In addition to the attractions, there are many restaurants, nightclubs, shopping centers and in general the city is quite developed. Therefore, feel free to book yourself a cozy house and fly to meet the beautiful.
In the next part we will discuss all the resorts in this area. Stay Tuned!
Vacation with children
Tuapse is considered a good place for families with children. The mild climate without sweltering heat, untouched nature, and ideal ecology have a great effect on strengthening the immune system and relaxing.
For accommodation, you can choose housing with comfortable conditions for children's stay. Local beaches with a pebble or sand-pebble surface, a flat bottom and a gentle entry into the sea are suitable for swimming for both children and older children.
In addition, in the villages surrounding the city there are many children's camps: thematic, sports, language. Some camps operate all year round because the climate and weather are conducive to this.
Parents and children will not be bored during their vacation. Tuapse has a lot of exciting entertainment: a dolphinarium, a water park, museums, as well as natural attractions: mountains, rocks, waterfalls.
Complex "Psynako"
Stones with a huge and mysterious history.
Photo: Putevka.com This complex is also called the Russian Stonehenge. It consists of megaliths (these are figures made of stone blocks) and dolmens (funerary structures like a crypt).
Researchers have found that the complex is more than two thousand years old! And it still raises many questions among archaeologists.
According to the most common version, the Psynako complex was created for rituals. Some megaliths are indeed located rather strangely, which makes it all the more interesting to walk here even for a tourist who is far from archeology. It also offers stunning views of the sunrise (which is why some scientists believe that ancient people came to this complex to worship the sun).
You can get here with a tour, or to the village of Anastasievka (by bus or car) and further using the navigator.
What to bring from vacation
On the way to the beach you will see many souvenir points. They sell goods at inflated prices. The same souvenirs are sold at the central market near the railway station, the price there will be lower. At the same market you can buy traditional gifts from the south - aromatic spices, local tea, herbal teas .
If the listed attractions and ways to spend time are enough for you, then you will enjoy your vacation in Tuapse. If you would like more, then pay attention to the resort areas in the Tuapse region, for example, Dzhubga, Nebug, Novomikhailovskoye
Have a nice rest.
