I’m in Miskhor: what to see and what attractions await tourists

Who is Miskhor?

Miskhor itself is a very small village with a population of just over 2,000 people. In fact, it has long been annexed to Koreiz - read about it in this article.

Therefore, do not be surprised if some of the attractions mentioned here may be located on the territory of Koreiz; all this is within walking distance.

Miskhor primarily attracts with its luxurious parks, gardens and ancient architectural structures and estates. That's where you need to go!

Bath of the Grand Duke

A tourist deciding which Miskhor beaches are ideal for his vacation should inquire about their availability. Sanatoriums and hotels rent a significant part of the coast; many of them do not allow outsiders into the territory, even for payment. But Dulber has a different opinion.

Its beach is located next to the famous park (the former estate of the Grand Duke of the Romanov family), outsiders can sit on it, but for a fee. Only children are not paid for passage.

But if you pay once, you can use sunbeds and small umbrellas all day. It’s clean, it’s never crowded, there’s a first-aid post, a children’s playground, cafeterias serving Crimean cuisine and a herbal bar for vegetarians and fans of healthy eating. Guests can sign up for sea excursions and ride a banana boat.

Palaces and estates

Dulber - Arabian fairy tale

Palace "Beautiful" or Dulber - the estate of the Romanovs. A magnificent snow-white castle in the Moorish style, built by the architect Krasnov according to the sketches and drawings of Prince Peter Nikolaevich himself.

The palace has many rooms, as befits a fairy-tale oriental castle, and there is a beautiful park complex around it.

After the change of power in Crimea, the palace was restored and supplemented with 2 buildings that fit well into this ensemble. Now it is a sanatorium, and the old and new buildings of its building.

You can visit Dulber with a tour ; this is the only way you will learn all the details about the life of the Romanov royal family in this palace and further events.

  • Reviews and accommodation in the sanatorium
  • Tours to Dulber with flight

Previously, the excursion was included in the complex of visiting the territory of the sanatorium for a person from the street. Now they just let you into the territory for a fee and give you a brochure.

In summer, this price includes access to the beach and outdoor pool. For residents of the sanatorium there is also an indoor swimming pool in the winter.

If you can’t get on the excursion, then read about the palace in this article.

Italian chic

Another, no less amazing architectural complex belonged to the Yusupovs. However, that’s what it’s called – Yusupov Palace .

N.P. Krasnov also worked on its creation, but unlike the eastern Dulber, this castle was conceived in the style of the Italian Renaissance.

Once upon a time, on the site of this palace stood the estate of Princess Golitsyna , which consisted of two master's houses and a church, but after her death, Prince Yusupov bought these estates and completely changed its appearance.

But in our time, the castle was closed from prying eyes . The Cheka rest house was located here, a gala dinner was served here, and a meeting took place during the Yalta Conference.

Today you can visit the Yusupov Palace and stroll through the beautiful garden only as part of excursion groups.

I wrote how to do this correctly in an article dedicated to the palace. Read more about the palace itself and its owners here.

Conditionally not available

Next are the beaches of the “Akter” creative house and the “Belarus” sanatorium. Here the situation is this: outsiders are allowed onto the Akter beach after 17.00 and only until 19.00.

But, according to reviews from vacationers, you can go here for an individual fee and depending on the mood of the security. The beach is not very wide, there are awnings, a solarium, paths, cafes, and recreation areas.

The very nice and well-maintained beach of the Belarus sanatorium prefers to see only clients of the institution among its visitors. But if you really want, you can either issue a sanatorium book in the main building of the sanatorium, or... negotiate at the checkpoint for a nominal fee.

Malaya Alupka

On the territory of the Nizhny Miskhor LOCC there is another interesting old estate “Sofievka”. A country villa that belonged to the Naryshkin family and was built in the early 30s of the 19th century.

Representatives of a noble family settled very close to Count Vorontsov, who was the cousin of Major General Lev Aleksandrovich Naryshkin, the owner of the estate.

The estate also owned the future Miskhorsky park, the landscaping of which, like Alupkinsky, was carried out by Karl Kebach himself, the director of the Nikitsky Botanical Garden.

You can admire the views of the palace and the surrounding landscapes of the 19th century in the sketches of Carl Bossoli. But read the history of the founders and learn about the connections of famous noble families on the website of the Nizhny Miskhor LOC.

Now the Naryshkin estate is part of the Nizhny Miskhor hotel complex, located on the territory of Miskhor Park. This is not a sanatorium, so you can buy a tour here or pay for daily accommodation.

If you want to live in an old mansion, then choose the Gloria building - 3*, by the way.

Story

The first aristocratic estate was built here in the 1830s by Princess A. S. Golitsyna. In the middle of the 19th century, the estate was sold in parts, one of which was bought by the brother of Natalia Goncharova, wife of A.S. Pushkin, Ivan Nikolaevich Goncharov, and the second by industrialist T. Morozov. Goncharov quickly resold it to General Felix Nikolaevich Sumarokov-Elston, whose son bought Morozov’s land and consolidated his possessions.

Creation of the palace

Sumarokov-Elston Jr., named Felix in honor of his father, became Yusupov due to his marriage to the daughter of Prince Nikolai Yusupov, Zinaida. Felix Feliksovich decided to build a palace on the site of the estate and ordered it from the then famous architect Nikolai Krasnov. At the same time, a collection of paintings by the Yusupovs began to be brought into the walls of the palace and sculptures were erected.

To this day, the entrance is guarded by marble lions made in Venice. Before entering the park, you can see characters from Greek mythology from Italian and German masters. The building is surrounded by relict trees and small pools, designed in a modern style.

However, this is only a small part that has survived from the Yusupov collection. The eldest of the family was partial to sculpture; previously, according to Felix Feliksovich, the garden was simply strewn with mythological creatures.

The palace garden itself is also noteworthy, the layout of which has been preserved from those times and was designed by Karl Kebach, the famous German gardener. Today, 127 species of plants have been preserved here, a quarter of which are very rare, and many trees are between 100 and 500 years old.

Stalin's residence

After the October Revolution of 1917, the palace was nationalized. At first it was a sanatorium for scientists, and then an elite holiday home for security officers. in the 1920s, the estate passed into the department of the Cheka, which at that time was managed by F. E. Dzerzhinsky. He personally vacationed here twice.

Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin personally chose the object as the location for the delegation of three powers - the Soviet Union, the USA and Great Britain. Until now, no one can understand why the choice fell on this palace.

In addition to Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt visited here during the Great Patriotic War. In their honor, three palm trees were planted in front of the main entrance, and Stalin’s billiard table and desk still stand in the building itself. After the war, the building became a summer house for party leaders and foreign guests.

With the collapse of the USSR, Crimea passed to Ukraine, as a result of which the palace became the property of its president. Since March 2014, the facility has become a special complex of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation.

Sculptures Arzu and Mermaid

Miskhor also has its own symbols - unique historical monuments. Walking along the embankment, you are sure to meet them.

The sculptural composition “Arzy and Ali Baba at the Fountain” appeared thanks to a legend .

The tragic story of the young, beloved daughter of a local peasant, who, on the eve of her own wedding, was waylaid by a fountain and kidnapped by a villain to be sold into the Sultan’s harem.

Arzy was the Sultan’s most beloved wife and bore him a son, but she could not get rid of her longing for her family and her betrothed.

One day, she threw herself into the Bosphorus waters and drowned, and in Miskhor, residents began to meet a sad mermaid in the waves with a baby in her arms.

Mermaid sculpture is located near the shore.

The author of these two wonderful and touching sculptures was the famous Estonian master Amadeus Adamson, the author of the famous eagle on the monument to the Sunken Ships in Sevastopol.

The sculptures were installed around 1905. But the Little Mermaid was less fortunate - she was washed away by a storm and now we are admiring the 1984 remake.

Every teenager vacationing in Miskhor with their parents considers it their duty to climb on it Sometimes the parents themselves come after the teenagers, feeling their second youth.

Miskhora Park

Miskhorsky Park spreads over an area of 22 hectares. It starts in the very center of the village and goes to the embankment. The park was created on the site of forest land by the best specialists back in the 18th century.

For whom? Not for you and me))

Of course, for famous people. Prince Naryshkin, for example, came up with the idea of a palm alley that runs through the center of the park.

The most important decoration of the garden remains relict, exotic and rare plants, more than 100 years old . There are operating sanatoriums on the territory of the park, but entry to the park is allowed to everyone.

Of course, it’s nice to stroll through the ancient park, but its condition could be better. This is especially noticeable at night, when your eye is gouged out and nothing changes. In some places the paths have fallen into disrepair, so watch your step.

Resort characteristics

Now, strictly speaking, Miskhor is understood as its aforementioned coastal zone with its center in the area of the bus station. The village is located at the foot of Mount Ai-Petri, which prevents the penetration of winds. Thanks to this, Miskhor is the warmest area of the southern coast of Crimea. The climate features make holidays in Miskhor comfortable at all times of the year. The swimming season here, starting in mid-May, also covers the first half of autumn. Summer heat is moderated by frequent westerly winds.

The cover of Miskhor beaches and the coastal bottom are pebbly. To facilitate entry into the water, wooden gangways are common. The most popular beaches are:

  • "Mermaid", named after the coastal sculpture of the same name (see below), with free entry;
  • public beaches of the Miskhor and Ai-Petri sanatoriums;
  • paid (200 rubles) beach near the Dulber Palace;
  • paid (100/50 rubles) at Miskhorsky Park for vacationers with children.

Cable car

Another important attraction of Miskhor is the cable car to Ai-Petri .

An exciting journey in a suspended carriage to one of the most beautiful plateaus of the peninsula lasts about 15 minutes. During this time you will rise to a height of more than 1100 meters.

In addition to the gorgeous views from the top, you can visit the Ice Cave with an underground lake, walk among centuries-old trees, have a snack and go back either by funicular or by minibus.

A bridge over the abyss and a long-flying troll were also erected there. Services for their use in 2022 cost 500 and 1000 rubles, respectively.

To get to Ai-Petri by cable car you need to go to the lower cable car station in Miskhor. Walking distance from the Ai-Petri sanatorium is 5 minutes. But you can also ride a passing bus.
