Nizhny Tagil is one of the largest cities in the Sverdlovsk region. The history of its foundation and development is closely connected with the natural resources of the region, as well as the Demidov family, the largest mining owners in Russia in the 18th century.

Mount Fox
Well, since we had a mountain day, we also didn’t look for any special attractions in the city itself, but immediately moved to Lisya .
Actually, this is the main recognizable symbol of the city. But why Lisya ? There are a couple of versions: according to one, foxes used to be found here in abundance (here the cap is rubbing his palms contentedly), according to another, the mountain received its name from the smoke of the nearby Demidov metallurgical plant, reminiscent of fox tails.
Another name for the mountain, Lysaya , is due to the fact that it was once covered with forest, which has now completely disappeared. And who would know, maybe someone just once heard not Lysaya , but Lisya , or forgot to finish writing the stick - here are the secrets of proper names.
At the top of Lisya there is a watchtower , once built of wood, and at the beginning of the 19th century replaced by a stone one. She also played the role of a fire tower. Although according to some versions it is also an observatory and even a lighthouse, in general, it is a building with expanded functionality.
From the Fox there is a view of Mordor - or I don’t know what else to call the somewhat eerie panorama of factory chimneys and black smoke. It looks impressive, but the word “at all” doesn’t make you want to breathe.
Nizhny Tagil: based on the results for the year
The city of steam locomotives and tanks Nizhny Tagil is one of the largest industrial centers of the Urals. The first railway in Russia was built there and a third of all armor steel was produced there during the Great Patriotic War.

Infrastructure for children
One of the most interesting and large-scale projects for children in Nizhny Tagil is an eco-park. This is a large area next to new buildings, a new school and kindergarten. It has children's swings, slides and areas with soft surfaces, and places for adults to relax - tables with benches. There are also swings that are suitable for adults - round with a net. There are bicycle paths, a skate area and an area with exercise equipment.
There are sculptures in the park, like this three-meter metal deer.
The ecopark opened in 2022. Its area is 7.5 hectares. Previously, there was a vacant lot in its place. After the school was built in 2022, the residents themselves proposed the idea of a park - because they needed a place to walk with their children.

Uralvagonzavod operates in Nizhny Tagil and continues to produce modern tanks. The city preserves old buildings and takes care of their facades. Parks, monuments and other attractions remain in good condition and are being reconstructed. They try to monitor all this in summer, winter, and off-season.
At the same time, new buildings are appearing in the city, new modern kindergartens and schools are opening.
Interesting attempts to make the city “smart” and “open”. In terms of a “smart city”, we are talking about a variety of installed cameras, “smart traffic lights” and convenient access to information. In terms of “openness” – about joint decision-making with residents, an example of which is the construction of an eco-park.
There is a pond in the city where yachting is being revived. And around the city is the rich nature of the Urals, which opens up many opportunities for active recreation at any time of the year.

Also at night, an embankment with a wonderful sports ground and an unusual attraction was discovered in the city - right in the middle of the park there is a dilapidated house that could be used in horror films. It turns out that once upon a time the grandfather who lived in this house refused to move anywhere from his habitual place, and the legislation was entirely on his side (what a unique story, huh?)).
In the end, the grandfather’s son, according to the stories of the townspeople, decided to make a knight’s move and sell this house for crazy money, apparently, there were no takers, and, in fact, since then there has been a kind of highlight in the middle of the embankment, surrounded by a fence.
