City Garden

Monument to Ivan Shadr

Shadrinsky Drama Theater

The pond was made in the 19th century, immediately after the creation of the city garden. For more than a century it has been attracting residents and guests of the city; it is their favorite place. Shadrinsk was founded in the 17th century, when Russian explorers began to develop Siberian and Far Eastern lands. Under the cover of the walls of the Shadrinsky fort, the banks of the Iset were settled by peasants from the northern and central provinces of Russia. The founder of the settlement is Yuri Malechkin, also nicknamed Yushka Nightingale. Yuri Malechkin sent a petition to Tobolsk, in which he asked the governor for permission to build a fort and settlement on Shadrina Zaimka (1644). In the Remembrance Order for the establishment of the Shadrinskaya Sloboda, Yushka Nightingale was allowed “in the summer of September 7171 (1662) on the 15th day (September 25)” to begin construction. By 1686, Shadrinskaya Sloboda became the largest settlement in Western Siberia. In the settlement there were 137 farmsteads of arable peasants, 10 White Cossacks and 41 dragoons lived.

The status of a historical city was assigned to Shadrinsk on the basis of the Resolution of the Board of the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR, the Board of the State Construction Committee of the RSFSR and the Presidium of the Central Council of VOOPIK “On approval of the list of historical places of the RSFSR” in 1990. The city is home to one of the oldest museums in the Urals, founded in 1918 - the Shadrinsky Museum of Local Lore. V. P. Biryukova and the State Archive in the city of Shadrinsk. The basis of the collections was the collection of local historian Vladimir Biryukov.

In Shadrinsk there is the Transfiguration Cathedral, the Resurrection Church, and the St. Nicholas Church.

Shadrinsk a century ago can be seen in the photographs of the famous photographer S. M. Prokudin-Gorsky, who visited it during the 1912 expedition along the Kama-Tobolsk waterway that was being designed at that time. Under the name Zapolye, the city is described in one of the best works of D. N. Mamin-Sibiryak - the novel “Bread”.

At the beginning it was the largest settlement in all of Western Siberia, and after only 50 years, it was renamed Maloarkhangelsk, Tobolsk district, but it was overtaken by a terrible fire, which again led to the status of a settlement.

Time passed, and with the help of its residents, the settlement was rebuilt and developed rapidly. Then it turned into a city again. Over its long history, it was part of many large regions. And in 1943 it finally became part of the Kurgan region, and is still part of it now. The architecture of Shadrinsk is attractive, reminiscent of the grandiose events of the country; There are many monuments in the city that reflect the greatness and power of the military and workers during the Great Patriotic War, as well as wars and uprisings of past times.

Sights of Shadrinsk

In the ancient town, founded on the banks of the Iset in 1662, buildings from the 18th–19th centuries have been preserved. The house of L. Fetisov, the first stone building, is in good condition.

Shadrinsky Drama Theater was founded in 1896. The theater building is one of the most beautiful in the city.

Museum of Local Lore named after V.P. Biryukov

The famous folklorist and local historian Vladimir Biryukov founded a small museum in his hometown in 1918. The exhibition was based on antiques collected by the explorer of the Siberian region.

Over the years, new exhibits have appeared in the museum. Here you can learn the history of Shadrinsk and see household items, archival photographs, ancient clothing and labor tools of local residents.

One of the halls of the local history museum is dedicated to the life and work of the famous artist and sculptor Ivan Shadr. In honor of his beloved city, the master took the surname Shadr instead of Ivanov.

The most famous creations of Ivan Shadr are “Girl with an Oar” and “Cobblestone – a Weapon of the Proletariat.” It is unlikely that Russians know that the sculptor studied with Rodin himself.

If it were not for the revolution of 1917, it is unknown what the fate of a talented person would have been. Perhaps, instead of a dozen harsh sculptures on revolutionary themes, the world would see beautiful statues that enchant the eye.

The original composition is located next to the local history museum. The history of the Shadrinsky goose is described in the work of Evgeny Fedorov. The writer discovered interesting archival documents of the 18th century and based on them he created his own work, which brought fame to the writer.

Tobolsk Bishop Varlaam blessed the foundation of the temple, after which construction began first of the temple buildings, then of the bell tower, which, unfortunately, has not survived to this day. The cathedral consists of a main church and two side churches, as well as an apse - a semicircular altar part. The cathedral is famous for the recent event that took place within its walls, the miracle of the “doubling of the icon.”

Ten years ago, the cathedral servants were cleaning, they took the icon with the image of the Savior to wipe it, and after removing the glass they noticed the imprinted face of Jesus Christ, the same as on the icon. This phenomenon is unusual and interesting.

Museum of the Frog Princess and Fairy Tales of the Shadrinsky Region

Opened in 2014 on the basis of the Center of Russian Folk Culture "Lad". Costumes of fairy-tale characters, village household items, etc. are presented. . There are about 250 exhibits in total. It is believed that it was in the folk tale “The Frog Princess”, recorded by local historian and educator A.N. Zyryanov (1830 - 1884), according to the words of local residents and later presented in a collection of Russian legends, specifically mentions the customs of the Shadrinsky land. In 2017, Shadrinsk was recognized as the birthplace of the frog princess.
