. [7]

2. Gus-Khrustalny is one of the popular tourist routes in our country, as it is one of the cities of the small Golden Ring of Russia.

3. Gus-Khrustalny is a cozy provincial town that fully lives up to its original name. After all, it is here that a glass manufacturing plant that is popular all over the world is located.

4. Date of foundation of the city of Gus-Khrustalny: 1756. City population: just over 55.5 thousand people. City area: 43 square kilometers.

5. This city arose in the very center of the Central Russian Plain. In the south of the Vladimir region, in the valley of the Gus River, back in the 17th century, a village of the same name arose, which later became Gus-Maltsovsky, and when it was given the status of a city, it was renamed Gus-Khrustalny.

6. It is located in a region of amazing beauty, in the middle of dense forests, clear lakes and swamps shrouded in blue haze, near which small beads of ripe cranberries turn red in the fall. This region is called “Meshchera”. Back in the 18th century, the Mozhaisk merchant Akim Maltsov came here.

7. Having lost the glass factory in Mozhaisk, which had to be closed after the sovereign’s decree on the demolition of distilleries, copper and glass factories within 200 versts (a little more than 200 kilometers) from Moscow, he arrived in dense Meshchera, on the Goose River. Factories near the capital were closed so as not to harm the environment (Surprisingly, already in the 18th century people were thinking about the environmental problem!).

8. Glass production began here in 1756 by the merchant Akim Maltsov and his brother Alexander, who moved the construction of the glass factory from the Moscow region. For their glass manufactory, they recruited peasants from surrounding villages to work... Around the factory under construction, the village began to quickly develop. In this territory, the Maltsovs were able to find everything that was needed to make glass. This is how the history of the Crystal Factory began in 1756. Three years later, the second plant was launched, and over the next 20 years - 4 more glass and 1 cement plant.

9.Until 1926, the town was called Gus-Maltsevsky. And only in 1931 he acquired his real name.

10. Such an unusual name for the settlement appeared because the village was formed on the Gus River. Researchers also suggest that there is a relationship with the Finno-Ugric tribes, who interpret the meaning of the name as the Elova River.

11. Birch and spruce forests densely surround the city, and scientists associate even the name of the city not with the goose bird, but with the Finnish name for spruce - “kuusi”. However, there have always been a lot of geese here; this bird is often mentioned in folk tales and superstitions and today is a symbol of the city.

12.The city received its second name, Khrustalny, in connection with the emergence of a glass factory and the famous Gusev Crystal Factory.

13.The main industrial sector of the city is the production and production of glass. In this sense, the city is special. Back in the 18th century, glass products by talented craftsmen were known throughout the world.

14.Unique crystal creativity amazes with its beauty. The real heyday of production came under Ivan Maltsov, Akim’s grandson. If at first the plant produced mainly glasses and simple shot glasses, Ivan proposed new technical means that made it possible to move on to the production of more complex and beautiful products, both glass and crystal. He gained knowledge of glass making, often visiting abroad and at other factories in Russia.

15. The best glassmakers started producing crystal glassware. Products began to be decorated with floral painting, gilding, diamond cutting, engraving and etching. In 1835, the plant began producing Bohemian glass. At the beginning of the 19th century, Gusev crystal received recognition at several all-Russian exhibitions, and soon entered the world market.

MALTSEVSKIE HOUSES

16. Ivan Maltsov built not only factory premises, but also houses for workers. By 1913, about 400 standard one-story stone houses were built, many of which, due to their strength, have survived to this day, and now form residential buildings on several streets of the city.

17. Gus-Khrustalny is a city with a rich history, located among the most beautiful nature of the Meshchera region. It attracts tourists with its uniqueness and has many attractions.

MONUMENT TO AKIM MALTSEV

18. For the 250th anniversary of the city, a monument to Akim Maltsov was erected in recognition of his services.

20. In Soviet times, Gus-Khrustalny flourished thanks to a unique craft - the production of glass and crystal products. People went here to shop for the most significant dates.

21. In the 90s, residents had less work. Enterprises and factories began to reduce production or close altogether.

22. This happened with the quartz plant; textile mill; sewing enterprise, and others - the Crystal Factory was also among the victims.

23. In post-Soviet times, during the difficult period of the economic crisis of the 1990s, the city-forming enterprises Gusevsky Crystal and Gusevsky Glass Factory named after Dzerzhinsky practically stopped production.

24.Now, fortunately, the Crystal Factory is gradually being revived, and the city of Gus-Khrustalny is turning into an interesting tourist place. The emphasis is on renewing glassmaking traditions.

25.In 2013, the production of colored crystal was resumed. The traditions of Gusev's masters continue to be revived, albeit not in such large-scale production, but in many small enterprises.

26.Today the city produces: glassware decorated with metal; crystal chandeliers; armored and ordinary glass for vehicles; smart glass, pressed and blown glass; quartz glass, triplex, mirrors; fiberglass wallpaper; fiberglass mesh; chemical glass.

27. Today, the Gusev Crystal Factory conducts excursions, revealing the secrets of the technology and craft of glass blowers. Here, master glass blowers and master carvers produce high quality products.

28. You need to live here for a few days to leisurely stroll along the quiet streets, admire the not too old, but beautiful architecture of the 18th-19th centuries, visit the Crystal Factory and look at the real magic - the process of creating magnificent works of art.

In summer there are quite a lot of people who want to plunge into clean and warm water. Boating and catamaran rides are organized, and there is a summer cafe.

36. A. A. Solzhenitsyn lived and worked in the city of Gus-Khrustalny, on whose 100th anniversary a memorial plaque was installed, which, unfortunately, was soon broken by vandals due to an ambiguous attitude towards the writer.
