Overall rating:

Is Jersey a country or not a country?

The island of Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands (its area is 116 km2). Only 90 thousand people live on this piece of land. Can Jersey be considered a country?

Officially, the island is under the jurisdiction of Great Britain. Nevertheless, it has its own parliament, court and governor (the latter is appointed by the British Queen). The Parliament of Jersey consists of 53 members: senators, deputies and constables. The former are elected for a term of six years, but constables and deputies are elected for only three years.

The island of Jersey is divided into twelve administrative units - districts. Moreover, the borders are drawn so that each of them has access to the sea. No political parties are currently registered in Jersey.

Djibouti: have you heard of this country?

The state of Djibouti is located in East Africa. It can attract tourists with its mysterious and unusual nature, reminiscent of the landscapes of some distant and lifeless planet. Few people know that it was in this country that Russian Cossacks settled in the mid-19th century to create a colony of the Russian Empire here.

Djibouti is a country of contrasts. A flock of pink flamingos on the rocky and wild shore of the salt lake will not surprise anyone here. This country has all the resources to develop tourism. It has beautiful beaches, coral underwater reefs (for diving enthusiasts) and stunning scenery!

Dominican Republic and Dominican Republic - is there a difference?

Of course there is a difference! It is absolutely impossible to confuse these names, because these are two completely different states. Although they are located within the same historical and geographical region - Latin America.

Dominica is a tiny island state with an area of 755 square kilometers. This island in the Caribbean is home to only 73,000 people. In turn, the Dominican Republic is a much larger state (its area is 48,442 square kilometers). This country is home to about 9.5 million people.

Both toponyms come from the name of Saint Dominic, a famous monk and preacher of the Catholic Church. However, it is worth noting that residents of the Dominican Republic are correctly called Dominicans, but citizens of Dominica are called Dominicans.
