Unboring November: top 5 places for a safe holiday alone with nature

29 October 2022, 10:32

1641

In early November, residents of the Saratov region will experience the first “long weekend” after the summer tourist season. Many people would like to spend their holidays away from home, visit new cities and countries, change their surroundings and unwind, but a new wave of the pandemic interfered with their plans. In a number of regions, additional anti-Covid restrictions have been introduced, but this does not mean that tourist life in Russia has stopped. You can travel if you plan your vacation in advance, taking into account all safety measures. And some places can be visited simply online - thanks to new technologies, the effect of being there can be fully felt. The editors of the Region 64 news agency, together with MTS, have prepared several options for Saratov residents on how to relax during the November holidays without risk to themselves and their loved ones, spending time in the fresh air and using modern digital services for tourists.

Samara is not Saratov

Those who have already traveled the length and breadth of the Saratov region can plan a trip to the neighboring region - the Samara region - during the holidays. On one of the days of your vacation, it is undoubtedly worth going on a walking sightseeing tour of the city: visit the main square, admire the monumentality of the “Rook” sculpture, which offers a panoramic view of the Volga, pet the “cat” above the entrance to the state district power station and say hello to the brave soldier Schweik from the novel by Jaroslav Hasek. You can create a personal route to city attractions using the “Virtual Walk” audio guide from MTS.

Just an hour and a half drive from Samara there is an amazing place - a giant natural bend with a length of 200 kilometers, called Samara Luka (from the word bend). The very nature of the origin of this place is interesting. More than 300 million years ago there was a shallow sea here. Then the water receded and the underwater hills appeared on the surface. They began to be called the Zhiguli Mountains or simply Zhiguli. This is the only hill on the Russian Plain.

Thanks to the peculiarities of the relief and climate, rare species of animals and plants have been preserved on Samarskaya Luka, many of which are now listed in the Red Book. To protect this natural zone, a national park of the same name was formed on the territory of Samarskaya Luka, as well as the Zhigulevsky Nature Reserve. Full information about Samarskaya Luka can be viewed and listened to online in digital format on the MTS eco-portal “Place of Power”.

There are more than 30 small settlements in the park, where arriving tourists can conveniently stay. You can go explore Samara Luka on foot, by car or on horseback. Experienced travelers recommend planning an ascent to the top of the Molodetsky Kurgan and viewing the beauty of this place from a height of 242 meters. The trail passes through the forest and mountain slope, which will allow you to immediately get acquainted with the local flora and fauna. A beautiful view also opens from the neighboring peak - Devya Mountain.

An interesting object is one of the largest known caves of karst origin - the cave of Stepan Razin. The hole, hidden in the thickets of trees, is located on a steep slope, not far from the village of Malaya Ryazan. In order not to get lost and see as many sights as possible, you can take an audio guide from MTS with you on your walk, which will take you to significant points in the park.

“In Chembar behind the oak tree”

Just 190 kilometers from Saratov there is another equally interesting city - Penza. Tourists there are greeted by a labyrinth of streets where classicist buildings juxtapose with Russian-style wooden houses. To see all the main attractions of Penza, you can follow the Red Line tourist route.

It is impossible to leave the city without visiting the Penza Zoo. Today it has 201 species of animals and 267 species of plants. You can safely spend the whole day walking around the zoo with your children. Polar bear, tigers, zebras, pumas, moose and deer live in spacious outdoor enclosures that are as close to their habitat as possible. You will be accompanied on your walk through the zoo by an audio guide from MTS, who knows everything about the animals and birds living here.

The name of the poet Mikhail Lermontov is associated with the Penza land. The Tarkhany Museum-Reserve is located 100 kilometers from Penza. Little Michel spent his childhood here with his grandmother—that’s what his grandmother, Elizaveta Arsenyeva, called Lermontov.

“Tarkhany” is famous not only for its rich museum complex, but also for its nature. Shady alleys, magnificent ponds with white bridges, hills on which, according to legend, little Lermontov played “Cossack Robbers” with peasant children, orchards - in the fall, strewn with golden foliage, all this is especially beautiful.

Literally three kilometers from “Tarkhan” there is another “Lermontov” place - the village of Apalikha, where the estate of the poet’s maternal relatives, the Shan-Gireys, used to be located. Nothing remains of the old house, but visitors will find a park with linden and chestnut alleys. The chances of catching a dangerous infection here are reduced to zero.

In the Penza region there is a unique park “Legend”. This is a collection of unusual outdoor sculptures. Visitors can see more than 300 works by sculptors from different countries, made of bronze, marble, limestone, granite, wood, steel, concrete and plastic. Each of them hides its own legend, which you can find out by listening to the interactive tour.

The Legend of Lake Zyuratkul

During the upcoming holidays, “advanced” and fearless travelers can visit a place shrouded in traditions and legends - Lake Zyuratkul and the national park of the same name in the Chelyabinsk region.

Lake Zyuratkul is a crystalline expanse of water, shaped like a heart and surrounded by mountain ranges. There is a legend explaining the nature of the appearance of such an unusual relief. She is involved with the local beauty Amina. Once a girl went to the lake and looked at her beautiful reflection so much that her heart jumped out of her chest and fell into the pond. Amina herself turned to stone and became one of the hills.

The mystery of this place is added by the fact that the remains of ancient people were discovered on the shore of the lake. A total of 12 sites were found. Research has shown that the lake was inhabited during the Mesolithic era (X-VI millennium BC) and Neolithic (VII-III century BC). Parts of buildings, products, stone axes, bronze tips, paper clips and axes of primitive people were excavated. Now many items are presented in the exhibition of the Satka Museum of Local Lore.

When visiting Zyuratkul, you should definitely climb the Nurgush ridge (maximum height - 1406 meters above sea level), as well as the Zyuratkul hill. Adjacent to the latter is a 6-kilometer “Eco-trail” on wood flooring. You can go through it either with a guide or on your own.

In order to recharge yourself with positive emotions, be sure to visit the Sokhatka elk house, where adult individuals and their offspring live in spacious enclosures. Growing up, animals usually go into the forest, but some get so used to people that they remain to live near them.

In October of this year, MTS released an interactive guide to Zyuratkul with online excursions and “revived” elements and a book linked to a digital version with QR codes. An ideal option for those who do not want to travel anywhere: the video included in the online guide was filmed using 360-degree cameras, which creates a complete immersive effect. Such an interactive project is interesting both for experienced tourists who have already visited Zyuratkul, and for those who have not been there yet. The online guide is available free of charge from anywhere in the world.

The trees whisper something in German

You can feel like you are in Europe without even leaving Russia. To do this, just go to the small but colorful city of Kaliningrad. Ancient paving stones, German churches stylized as medieval city gates and, of course, the Baltic Sea, the sandy shore of which is just a 40-minute drive from the city. Kaliningrad is famous for amber, beer, fish and the extraordinary beauty of the Curonian Spit.

It is a creation of wind and waves, a narrow strip of land stretching from Zelenogradsk to the Lithuanian city of Klaipeda between the salty Baltic Sea and the freshwater Curonian Lagoon. The length of the Russian half of the spit is 48 kilometers. A leisurely exploration of the surrounding area will take several days.

The peculiarity of the Curonian Spit is its sand dunes, deserted protected forests, untouched natural landscapes adjacent to small settlements. Here you can find traces of trade and craft settlements of the Vikings of the 10th-11th centuries, the remains of fishing villages of the 16th-19th centuries and other archaeological heritage.

At the 42nd kilometer of the Curonian Spit there is an old observation deck, which offers a magnificent view of the snow-white sands of the Efa dunes, the bay and part of the village of Morskoye. You can take a bird's eye view of the Curonian Spit using augmented reality technology: MTS has developed 8 VR videos that simulate the movement of different inhabitants of the reserve. The VR flight zone is located on the territory of the national park visitor center.

One of the most attractive tourist places on the Curonian Spit is the “Dancing Forest”. It can be found at the 37th kilometer of the spit, near the village of Rybachim. The forest is called so because of the bizarre shape of the trees, the trunks of which bend as if in a dance.

Due to its geographically elongated position and orientation from northeast to southwest, the Curonian Spit serves as a corridor for 150 species of migratory birds. That is why it is also called the “bird bridge”. Bird coloring books and crayons are now available at the national park visitor center. When you point the camera at the QR code of the coloring book, the birds come to life.

Safety comes first

Modern developments and digital technologies open up new opportunities for us. Don’t forget that today you can go on a trip, visit the Samara Luka, the Curonian Spit, the shores of Lake Zyuratkul and “Tarkhany” without leaving your home, with the help of virtual excursions and other digital products from MTS. Calmly, slowly, sitting in a chair, read interesting facts about these places, enjoy photographs and watch videos. The pandemic will definitely end, and then, without health risks, you will be able to see the beauty of these places with your own eyes.
