Pokachi city

One of the settlements of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Pokachi - was solemnly awarded the status of a city on July 13, 1992. Now Pokachi is one of the youngest and actively developing cities in the autonomous region.

The history of the city’s origins is quite typical: after lengthy geological research (which began in 1947), confirmation was received of the presence of huge reserves of “black gold” here. In November 1970, oil gushed for the first time at the 21st exploration well. Currently, this memorable place is chosen by newlyweds who lay flowers there.

The city received its name from the Khanty family of the Pokachevs - it was on their lands that the first industrial flow of oil was obtained.

For guests of the city, Pokachi is an amazing sight: everything here looks like a toy. The houses - a maximum of five stories - are painted in bright, colorful colors. And the city itself is small: about seventeen thousand people live here.

There is a Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God in the city. The community appeared in 1992, and its premises were consecrated 10 years later. In September 2002, Archbishop Dimitry of Tobolsk and Tyumen consecrated the temple. There is a Sunday school and a summer Orthodox camp at the church.

There is also a mosque in the city.

On the territory of the city there is a Center for the Development of Creativity for Children and Youth, where children are taught various types of arts and crafts and amateur artistic creativity. Not a single holiday in the city is complete without performances by artistic groups from the Oktyabr Palace of Culture, a leisure center, and a children's music school.

There are also traditions: the “Young Talents of Pokachi” festival has been held annually for 15 years. The festival program consists of competitions in various areas - choreography, vocals, clothing design, art, arts and crafts. The gala concert of the festival is a significant event for the city, a celebration of children's talents.

In 2012, in honor of the city’s 20th anniversary, the Arts Center was opened, and a monument to Vladimir Vysotsky was erected next to it. The image of the legend in bronze was recreated by the famous Russian artist and sculptor Zurab Tseretelli. The monument is made in bronze, its height reaches 4.5 m, and its weight is 4 tons. In addition to the figure of Vysotsky himself, the composition also includes a sheet of poetry, a guitar, and the domes of the temple.

Unfortunately, the monument is not unique. Exactly the same can be seen in Moscow on Bolshaya Gruzinskaya Street near the creative workshop of Zurab Tsereteli.

There is also a local history museum in the city. It contains collections on ethnography, archeology, history and nature of the region. Based on the results of archaeological surveys and excavations carried out in the surrounding area, information was obtained about ancient settlements dating from the 3rd to 1st millennia BC.

The most interesting archaeological site is the Imnyegan settlement north of Pokachi. The settlement, along with a few similar monuments, is one of the most ancient fortifications not only in the Ob region, but also on the entire Eurasian continent. Most of the settlements discovered in the vicinity of the city of Pokachi date back to the Iron Age. Finds of objects from these archaeological sites are still few in number. These are mainly fragments of ceramic vessels; less common are tools: knives, stone tools, jewelry, etc. The study of the archaeological heritage left by the ancient population of the Agana basin is just beginning.

The city hosts quite a lot of sporting events, both local and regional. For example, the “Challenge Yourself” athletics run. This event is included in the All-Russian competition calendar. Athletes come to participate in the race not only from the cities of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Ugra, but also from other regions, for example, Tyumen and Sverdlovsk.

For lovers of a healthy lifestyle, there is a well-equipped cultural and sports complex “Neftyanik”, a swimming pool “Dolphin”, a sports and recreation complex “Sibiryak”, and an ice rink. There is an illuminated ski run.
