Lake Abrau
Just 14 kilometers from Novorossiysk is the largest freshwater lake in the Krasnodar Territory, which, in fact, gave its name to the entire region and even the famous plant. By the way, the name of this lake can be translated from the Turkic language as “failure” or “collapse”. The depth of the reservoir reaches 11 meters, and its banks stretch among magnificent wooded slopes for as much as three kilometers. It should be noted that the river of the same name and many small mountain streams flow into Abrau.
By the way, one sad legend is associated with this landmark of Abrau-Durso: many centuries ago there was a rich village on these lands. Not far from it there was another village, in which only poor people lived. It so happened that the beloved daughter of a rich Circassian fell in love with a poor shepherd from Durso. Of course, the girl’s parents were against this love.
One day, under the cover of darkness, a Circassian woman managed to escape to her beloved shepherdess. No one noticed she was missing. After all, the next day the rich people had a holiday: they held a feast in the open air. And as entertainment they began to throw bread cakes. Of course, Allah became angry, the earth shook, and the village with its houses and inhabitants simply went underground. And at the site of the settlement, a huge lake almost immediately formed.
Only the young Circassian woman managed to escape. Returning home, she saw that there was nothing left of her native village. She sat down on the shore and cried bitterly. Out of despair, she even decided to commit suicide and rushed into deep waters. But the water of the lake did not accept the young beauty; the girl simply ran along the surface of the water to the other shore. And the shepherd, seeing off his beloved, looked back and saw how she jumped down from the cliff. Deciding that the girl had drowned herself, the loving shepherd threw himself into the abyss and died. Since then, local residents say, the Circassian woman continues to wander in the forests located near the lake, looking for her loved one. And on a full moon you can see her crossing the water to the other side. Proof of this is the lunar path that remains in place of her footprints.
