Report No. 2

The first mention of Balashikha was in the 16th century. The city is located on the land of seven villages and two estates. One of the estates, Gorenki, was built in the 18th century and was owned by the Dolgoruky princes. During the years of Soviet power, an orphanage was first opened here, and after a while a health resort.

In the 19th century, it was decided to open cloth production enterprises in Balashikha. In 1844, cotton spinning replaced cloth production. In 1847, the entire city suffered from a terrible fire, but the production area was especially affected. Soon, stone structures grew in place of the wooden buildings. In 1868, they stopped producing cloth here. And immediately a village began to grow in this place.

In 1928, the village became a workers' settlement, in 1939 it was given the status of a city, and since 1941, a regional center. Now the population is 500,000 people.

The city is rich in architectural and cultural monuments. The city has a local history museum, an art gallery, and an air defense museum. The estates of Gorenki and Poltevo are recommended for visiting. In Balashikha, there are many ancient churches that now hold services.

In the city in 1919, the first bust of Karl Marx in the USSR was installed. There are four monuments to Lenin in the city. The first one was installed on May 1, 1924. It was made according to a sketch by S.V. Shcherbakov, an ordinary teacher at a local school. The second monument was erected in 1943. The third one was installed in 1957. And the fourth monument was erected in the garrison.

32 years later, on May 9, a monument to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War was unveiled in the city and the Eternal Flame was lit on Glory Square.

At the beginning of the 2000s, the Alexander Nevsky Temple was consecrated here, which was built on the site of an old temple destroyed during the years of persecution of the church.

In 2007, a cedar log house was built, it was consecrated, and it is considered the temple of the “Burning Bush”. In the same year, a monument to a man without whom any city would look like a garbage dump was erected in the park - this is a monument to a janitor.
