Description of the monument

The Nikulin Monument in Sochi, as the monument is often called, is a complex of several sculptures:

  1. The central part is occupied by the figure of Semyon Semenovich with his wife Nadezhda, son and little daughter sitting on a suitcase.
  2. On the left you will see would-be smugglers. Lelik, the hero of Anatoly Papanov, gives Gena Kozodoev, the hero of Andrei Mironov, the last instructions before setting off on the cruise.
  3. The composition is completed by a sign reminding that Gaidai’s comedy was filmed in this place.

There is always a crowd of people around the monument, so you won’t pass by. All the figures are human-sized, and people are happy to take selfies next to them.

The smallest tourists are trying to sit on a suitcase, next to Semyon Semenovich’s daughter made of bronze.

Rest at the Diamond Arm monument

The “Diamond Arm” group was made with funds from local businessmen and philanthropists. Its production required 6,000 kg of metal, including 2,000 kg of bronze. The authors of the monumental scene are local sculptors V. Zvonov and A. Butaev. Foundry workers from the city of Rostov-on-Don gave the heroes of the picture eternal life. The work lasted for seven months. By the way, more than 5,000,000 rubles were spent on the implementation of the entire project.

The height of her subjects is human height, so you can shoot with the Gorbunkovs and would-be swindlers as with ordinary people - hugging, kissing, putting your hands on your shoulders. Some of the smaller kids might even fit on a suitcase. The superstitious are already rubbing against Semyon Semenovich’s tie, apparently imagining the fabulous appearance of diamonds in their pocket. The Gorbunkovs’ sculptures depict the farewell of the father of the family on a well-known tour. The little girl is sitting on her father's suitcase. The wife looks at the cruise ship with caution.

Have you finished your photo shoot, standing in front of this miracle from all angles? There are other attractions on this nickel: Mayak beach, yacht marina, concert hall, etc.

By the way, along the way there will be cafes in front of you where you will have a tasty and fun snack - “Rice”, “Assorted” and “Dream”. And a little further away there are two fast food establishments of world-famous bistro chains. Did you like this residential sector? Indeed, one day is not enough for you to explore all the man-made beauties of historical Sochi. History of origin

The monument, which today adorns the Sochi embankment, was erected on August 23, 2010.

They say that the idea of creating a sculptural group came from the chairman of the board of Gazprom, Alexey Miller: he was also present at the opening ceremony.

The authors of the project were sculptors from Sochi Alexander Butaev and Vyacheslav Zvonov.

Work on the monument continued for seven months.

To make the figures, the authors needed 2 tons of bronze and 4 tons of other metals.

The project turned out to be quite expensive: patrons donated more than 7 million rubles for implementation.

The artists made the faces of the sculptures from still frames taken during filming and photographic portraits of the actors.

The installation location was not chosen by chance. It was from here that the characters of the comedy, which entered the golden fund of Russian cinema, went on a foreign cruise on the ship “Mikhail Svetlov”.

True, the composition had to be moved 50 meters. Where the interview scene with S.S. Gorbunkov and his wife was filmed, today there is a closed customs zone.

Where was the film “The Diamond Arm” filmed, the secrets of episodes from the film

Leonid Gaidai's film "The Diamond Arm" was released in June 1969. And it was watched by a record number of viewers - 76 million 700 thousand. And just like every film has its own wonderful story, this masterpiece of the comedy genre keeps sweet and interesting secrets: where the film was shot and how.

Here is a short history of the creation and filming of “The Diamond Arm” in episodes from the film:

1. The idea for this scenario came to the authors after reading a series of articles by journalist A. Sakhnin in the newspaper Pravda, dedicated to the fight against smugglers. One of the notes mentioned an original way of transporting valuables - in plaster. According to the script, the plot of the film was supposed to be like this: a simple Soviet man Semyon Semenovich Pavlik (later he would become Timoshkin and only by the release of the film - Gorbunkov), having gone on a tour abroad, found himself in the center of a smuggling scheme. In general, the script was approved, but comments were also made: it was recommended to shorten the scenes with the participation of the house manager Plyushch, make the role of the police more “convex” (propaganda), reduce the trio of smugglers to two people, removing the Kid.

2. The main role of Gorbunkov was written exclusively for Nikulin. at Soyuzcircus, Nikulin was given leave for six months, which had never been done before.

3. The “foreign” part was filmed in Azerbaijan, in Baku, and the “city of Gorbunkov” was filmed in Crimea.

4. Initially, the film was supposed to be called “Smugglers”, and the ending was supposed to be different - more lyrical. Namely: the whole Gorbunkov family comes out of the entrance in new clothes, Semyon Semenovich now with two plastered hands. The children walk forward, and Nadezhda takes her husband’s arm and, blushing, quietly says: “Senya, I wanted to tell you... We’re having a baby!”

5. The following lines were also removed: “As the boss says, the main thing in our business is socialist realism” and “The party and government were left for the second year.” The reason is political.

6. In the monologue of the house manager Ivy, “I wouldn’t be surprised if your husband secretly visits his mistress!” originally the word "synagogue" was intended instead of "mistress".

7. In the director's script, it is not the wife who wakes up the drunken Semyon with an alarm clock, but a painting that falls on him and hangs around his neck. The idea to use the alarm clock arose after a series of unsuccessful takes - the picture did not hang “beautifully” on Nikulin’s neck.

8. “The Song about Hares” is performed on a ship in the first screen tests. Only before the release of the film it was replaced with “Island of Bad Luck”, and “Song about Hares” migrated to the restaurant “to dilute the pathos”.

9. Remember the scene where Mironov gives a kick to a boy walking on water who bent down to pick up a fishing rod? This role was played by Nikulin's son. This scene did not work out for a long time - the boy fell into the water before Mironov had time to swing his leg, so Gaidai assured the boy that Mironov would simply pass by. The calmed Maxim bent down to pick up the fishing rod, and the insidious director whispered to Mironov: “Take a good bite!” The double worked, and Nikulin’s son and current general director and artistic director of the circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard was deeply offended by “Uncle Andrey.” The episode was included in the film, but the sound was cut out.

10. Both played this scene so naturally that on Geshino’s “Save! Help! Mommy!” A real boat with rescuers came rushing in!

11. The song “Volcano of Passions” was performed not by Svetlana Svetlichnaya, but by Aida Vedishcheva, who also sang in “Prisoner of the Caucasus.” Svetlichnaya was very offended by Gaidai because he did not let her sing. She asked Nina Grebeshkova: “Why didn’t Gaidai let you sing in your voice?” Meanwhile, in the film, Svetlichnaya speaks not in her own voice, but in the voice of Zoya Tolbuzina. The only phrase that Svetlichnaya uttered herself was “It’s not my fault!..”

12. Almost all the songs for Gaidai’s films were invented by composer Alexander Zatsepin. The artistic council did not like “The Island of Bad Luck” so much that they were thinking of throwing it into the trash, but during the auditions Mironov sang the song so brilliantly that Gaidai insisted that it be included in the film.

13. Mironov got the fall scene at the pharmacy in the first take, but Nikulin just couldn’t fall properly. Initially it was supposed to be banana peel, then it was replaced with watermelon peel. The substitution did not help, and as a result, Leonid Kanevsky fell instead of Nikulin.

14. The terrible abracadabra that the smuggler - Kanevsky's hero - swears at is nothing more than an encrypted message from his then beloved, who later became his wife. If you listen closely, you can make out how he repeats “Berezina will kill” several times. Berezina is the surname of Kanevsky’s wife.

15. Of all the actresses who auditioned for the role of the house manager Plyushch, Gaidai liked least of all... Nonna Mordyukova. In addition, she was not friendly with Andrei Mironov, considering him a “mama’s boy.” Mironov reciprocated her feelings. If Nonna mispronounced a phrase during filming, Mironov immediately corrected her.

16. Do you remember how Papanov’s underwear was pulled down during underwater filming? This scene was filmed with a stunt double. During filming we had to resort to various tricks. For example, at that time there were no movie cameras capable of filming underwater, so to protect the equipment from water, a certain Mosfilm craftsman fashioned a special box out of resin. And some of the underwater scenes were filmed using a mock-up: they made a human figurine, and the combined filming operators tinkered with it in a puddle.

17. In the episode where Gorbunkov’s son throws ice cream at Mironov, cottage cheese was actually used (it “fluttered” better), and it was not the boy who threw it, but the director’s assistant. A well-mannered Soviet child did not have the courage to naturally “throw” cottage cheese at a famous actor.

18. One of the funniest episodes, when a hefty fellow asks: “Dad, is there a light?” - from the frightened Gorbunkov (“Are you deaf and dumb?” - “Yes!”) was filmed in an underground passage on Leninsky Prospekt in Moscow, there used to be a toilet there. The role of the fellow was played by the correspondent of the Smena magazine L. Pleshakov, who agreed to temporarily change his profession for the sake of an interview with Nikulin, who was unusually popular at that time. This short episode took 4 hours to film! Gaidai approved Pleshakov for the role after he showed him his hairy chest.

19. The ship was named by Gaidai “Mikhail Svetlov” because of his great love for the poet’s work. The motor ship Pobeda arrived at the port, Gaidai persuaded the captain to rename the ship for one day, even the life preservers were rewritten. As a result, all the scenes on the ship were filmed in one day! The film was released. The head of the navy, having learned that the “Mikhail Svetlov” was not listed in his department, ordered to correct the omission, and the very first new ship launched was named in honor of the poet.

20. During the filming of the film, there was a rumor that Nikulin had died. In fact, an employee of the Horizon Hotel found Nikulin’s body covered with a sheet in the basement. In horror, she did not take a closer look, but in fact it was a dummy made for filming the episode when Gorbunkov falls out of the helicopter.

21. A lot of scenery was used in the film: an entire “Sand Island” was erected near the village of Atoi near Tuapse! While fishing, Lelik (Papanov) angrily says “Idiot!” However, this phrase was not addressed to Gesha, but to someone from the film crew who delayed filming - the water was icy.

22. In the film, Gorbunkov’s wife often repeats to her husband: “You are so gullible!” These words were not in the script, but in real life Nina Grebeshkova often repeated this to her husband, L. Gaidai, and he put her usual words into the heroine’s mouth.

23. The episode where the police take away the singing drunkard was voiced by Gaidai himself.

24. At the end of the film, the episode where the crane lowers Nikulin into the ZIS-110 car, after which Nikulin hits his head on the hook, was not planned. Nikulin really hit himself, and it was this episode that was included in the film.

25. In the same final episode, Nikulin is lifted out of the boat by an orange crane boom, and lowered into a car by a green one.

26. When Kozodoev drives up to the base where Gorbunkov’s cast was supposed to be removed “without noise and dust,” he is wearing women’s clothing—a skirt. But inside the base he is already in pants and a T-shirt.

27. Remember? “Children - ice cream, Baba - flowers!” Mironov’s character approaches the table, holding a popsicle on a stick in his hands, and after a few seconds it turns into ice cream balls in vases. Miracle!

28. In the same scene, Kozodoev gives Gorbunkov’s wife two (!) roses.

29. At the end of the first part at the TO station, Papanov and Mironov squeeze Nikulin from both sides in the inspection pit, he clearly has no way out. The second episode begins with Nikulin already outside the pit.

30. In the scene where Kozodoev tries to stun Nikulin with a stone, he takes a white stone out of his bag and swings a gray one!

31. Pegasus in the store (“Do you have the same one, but without wings?”) also starred in the film “Office Romance”, A. Myagkov’s hero languished under its weight in the episode with the “horse”, and then in the interior of the apartment composer in the comedy "Shirley Myrli". This horse is still kept in the prop department of Mosfilm!
