Photos describing the most visited attractions of Adler

Adler on the map of Russia and information about the city

Adler is often considered one of the districts of Sochi, but this is not entirely true; the city, in fact, consists of 15 of its own microdistricts. The first Russian fortified settlement in this place was erected in 1837. The fort was built in the shape of a five-pointed star. Abkhazians lived nearby, who in the Middle Ages were part of the Genoese trading post; in Turkish the area was called Arty; in fact, the modern name of the city is a transformed Turkish name in the Russian way. The dacha village appeared here in 1927, where it all began, and was included in Sochi in 1961.

Where to stay in Adler

Administratively, Adler is considered a district of Sochi and is often referred to by the same name, although it is a completely independent unit. It houses Sochi's iconic landmarks, the city's airport and the largest beach on the coast. The hotel sector, formed by hotels up to 5 stars, many guest houses and apartments, does not lag behind in terms of the level and number of offers. Among them there will always be one that suits you according to the necessary criteria.

Dzykhrinskoye Gorge

Travelers flock here because it combines natural components in the form of boxwood mountains, with numerous vines and stones that are covered with old moss. The gorge is located 1277 meters above sea level, nearby there is a mountain of the same name. The depth of the canyon in which the Dzykhrinka flows is from 60 to 100 meters, the width is 10 meters. The canyon was formed due to a tectonic fault of limestone, the peculiarity is that it happened almost at a right angle, for this reason the slopes are smooth, as if carved by hand.

The slopes are covered with trees, and they are of different types, plants from different natural zones change each other, and this can be seen in small areas, just climb a few hundred meters up. The vegetation is so dense that even on the hottest days, the temperature here is 5-10 degrees lower than in the surrounding air. The river, which originates in an underground lake, has many rapids along its entire length. You can find the location near the Cossack Ford, 15 kilometers from the center.

Akhshtyrskaya cave

At least 400 caves are known in the suburb, a tenth of which is actively being studied and explored by scientists. On the way to Krasnaya Polyana, on a cliff near Mzymta you can get into one of the most famous caves in the Caucasus. Ashshtyrkaya Cave has become popular because of its age; it is the oldest. Archaeologists have carefully carried out their scientific research here, and now entry is open to ordinary discoverers. According to scientists, this object appeared here 350 thousand years ago, initially the entrance was near the water, now it is located at a level of 120 meters. The main inhabitants were Neanderthals and bears, the latter left more traces, the walls of the cave were polished with their backs to a shine. What remains from ancient people is the outline of a hearth. Modern people have gone further, they made railings and installed electricity here, thanks to which now this location can be visited on a tour. An entrance fee of 160 rubles is charged. Open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.

Psaho Canyon

You can find the canyon not far from Krasnaya Polyana; this crevice appeared many years ago due to a real earthquake. The landscape here looks fantastic due to the boxwood forest and rocks that are covered with moss, you should definitely visit here if you are serious about the issue of Adler attractions photo with description. The fantastic landscape is enhanced by karst caves and many waterfalls along with limestone deposits. The object itself consists of two canyons, called Dry and Wet. The first gorge without water, which is why it has such a name, Colchis ivy grows on the walls, and there are training tracks for beginners; this is one of the most popular locations for photos. The canyon itself is part of the National Natural Park. The wet canon is much longer than the anhydrous one, its length is about two kilometers, its width is from 2 to 10 meters. Along its length it is covered with karst grottoes and limestone deposits. Waterfalls and whirlpools, all complemented by subtropical flora. Entrance to the territory will cost 100 rubles per person. Southern Cultures Park in Adler

This dendrological park can be found on the outskirts of the city center. Despite the fact that in the city itself the plants, to put it mildly, differ from those that grow in the central part of Russia, this is one of the popular places among tourists. In addition to numerous trees and flowers, there are several artificial reservoirs in the park, one of which has a pedestrian bridge across it. The plants in the garden are not only local, but also from other countries and even continents. For example, you can walk through a whole grove of bamboo, so to speak, be transported to China, or sit under the shade of cedar trees from the Himalayas. A separate large area is occupied by blooming roses. You can visit this site not only in summer, but also in winter, as many evergreen trees grow here. The garden is open to visitors every day, from 9:00 to 19:00. The entrance ticket costs 250 rubles for one adult, children under 14 years old will cost 120 rubles, and those under 7 years of age will be free.

Sightseeing on your own

You can appreciate the advantages of the southern city in winter, find pleasant places to walk and see interesting sights in Adler on your own. The only thing is that it is difficult to identify a single center in the city. In the summer, its entire territory becomes one. In the winter months, the Imereti and Central parts are the most popular, where, in addition to hotels, there are places for leisure and recreation, and the Kurortny Gorodok microdistrict becomes completely quiet.

Olympic Park

The Olympic Park is a spacious area in the Imereti Lowland of Adler. It housed sports facilities that hosted the XXII Winter Olympic Games in 2014, and after that the place became popular with tourists. The center of the park, which in its main part resembles a circle, is a square with the Olympic Cup and a singing fountain . Even in winter they delight with colorful light and music shows.

the Iceberg and Bolshoi sports palaces , the Fisht , where the opening and closing of the Olympics took place. Today they house sports organizations, gyms, and host competitions and concerts. at the Iceberg and Shaiba training arenas is open to those who wish to skate.

Embankment

The top attractions in resort cities always include the embankment, and Adler is no exception. There are two of them in the city: Central and Imeretinskaya. A small number of vacationers and the absence of bright beach paraphernalia allow you to admire the beauty of the sea, green palm trees and flowers in the flower beds.

The central embankment stretches for 1.5 km along the sea along the right bank of the Mzymta. Next to it are the Adler Central quarters - green streets with hotels, guest houses, sanatoriums and cafes. Imeretinskaya begins at the port of the same name and continues to the border with Abkhazia. Its length is about 6–7 km; rental of scooters and bicycles is especially popular here, for which there is a special path. The Imeretinka embankment is wide, as is the beach itself in this place. It passes by the Olympic Park, new cafes and hotels.

Southern Cultures Park

Arboretum "Southern Cultures" became a tourist attraction not long ago. The former manor park, laid out in 1910 by General Daniil Drachevsky, barely survived the years of the Revolution, the Great Patriotic War, perestroika, and then suffered from natural disasters on the Black Sea.

In 2022, large-scale restoration work was carried out in the park. Thanks to them, this is now a wonderful place with well-groomed alleys and ponds, new plants and garden design elements - balustrades, gazebos, stairs, bridges. Those who visit it in winter will be enchanted by evergreen pines, cypresses, and cedars. In the evening, light installations of the “Revived Park” project will give new emotions. Children will love the opportunity to feed the ducks and swans. Entrance to the arboretum is paid.

Ornithological Park

You can freely visit the Ornithological Park. It includes 14 clusters throughout Adler, usually in areas near reservoirs where the natural ecosystem has been preserved. Despite the active development of adjacent territories by humans, the Imereti Lowland remains attractive to many migratory and wintering birds.

For residents and guests of the city, two ponds along Olympic Avenue are most accessible. There is a young park around them. There are several open-air cages with birds, rabbits run around the area, and geese, ducks, and swans live in the ponds. Information stands will tell you about the most popular inhabitants. The place is suitable for quiet relaxation and contemplation of nature; there are no entertainment facilities or cafes. There is a gravel path and benches for walking.

Museums

Unlike summer, in winter there is enough time on the coast to visit local museums. Especially if the weather is not conducive to a walk.

Some of the most popular and spectacular ones are located near Sochi Park. Even children never get bored in them. The Leonardo da Vinci Museum and the Nikola Tesla Museum are small venues dedicated to the great minds of the past. Of course, information about each researcher will be provided. Among the exhibits there are many interactive ones: in one there are tools and objects created according to da Vinci’s drawings, in another there are bright installations demonstrating physical processes. In addition to the excursion, the Tesla Museum hosts a show with the hero Megavolt, who effectively controls real lightning.

Next to them, on the territory of the Sochi Autodrome, you will find the Nick Panuli Automuseum . It contains a collection of the most famous cars of all time, such as the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado, Ferrari F40 and Dodge Viper. In addition to the cars themselves, it is proposed to learn the history of the creation of the exhibition, see photographs, calendars, chewing gum inserts and other items dedicated to automotive topics.

Of course, like in any city, there is a city museum in Adler, and more than one. The events of the past will be told in detail at the Museum of the History of the Adler District and the Resort Park gallery in Resort Town. These are compact venues that include several exhibitions. With the help of the guide's story, thousands of old postcards and photos, you will see the development of the southern health resort in the last century.

Central Market Adler

The local bazaar is considered almost the main attraction; not only tourists but also Adler residents stock up here. Vegetables and fruits are mainly from local farmers, but some are imported from Abkhazia and Turkey; among local goods, fish, meat and cheeses are especially valued; they also sell delicious honey in season. Another specialization of the market is the trade in seasonings and spices, which are packaged in various containers, for example, in bags or jars, so that you can buy them for use in your own kitchen. Many products look like works of art, such as fig beads, slides with tangerines or sticks with churchkhela. Pay attention to the rainbow trout, which is raised in local mini-farms. The trading platform is open from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 to 18:00, one hour shorter on Monday.

What to see in the area

In addition to the attractions in the city itself, in winter there are many interesting places available near Adler. These are new cities and beautiful nature, an opportunity to learn new things or simply relax your soul and body.

When going to natural sites, you should pay attention to the weather and shoes. In any case, the latter should fit well on the foot and not slip. Forest paths after precipitation become slippery and dirty, and therefore dangerous. There is snow in the immediate vicinity of Adler, but it does not stay long and melts. It always lies only on the peaks of Krasnaya Polyana. In general, the winter landscapes of the surrounding area are reminiscent of the off-season in central Russia.

Sochi

Central Sochi is one of the most visited places when traveling outside of Adler. In winter, restaurants, shopping centers and other establishments useful to tourists are open there. People come to the center of Sochi to see its main attractions, walk along the well-groomed streets, and sometimes just compare it with summer. “Off-season” on warm, rainy days will indicate the absence of resort bustle and leaves on some trees.

Take a walk along the Central Embankment , at this time it is completely different than in the summer: a few visitors leisurely admire the sea. On the main street Navaginskaya , a pedestrian alley, it’s time to look into the “Mega Museum of the USSR” and look at thousands of familiar but bygone objects. Nearby, at the City History Museum, you can learn about how and when the country's main southern resort was born. Go to Seaside Park or Riviera Park , they will delight you with green plants and even flowers. In the port, winter can be completely unnoticeable: everywhere there are only snow-white yachts, evoking memories of sea voyages.

Krasnaya Polyana

Krasnaya Polyana is a village in the Adler region, lying between the mountains 40 km from Adler. Those who travel to the Black Sea in winter are hardly unfamiliar with it: it is a modern ski resort, on the territory of which part of the competitions of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi took place. In Krasnaya Polyana, or rather the village of Esto-Sadok, there are three ski resorts - Gazprom , Krasnaya Polyana and Rosa Khutor . They organize the operation of cable cars, ski schools, rentals, restaurants, hotels and various après ski activities. For a couple of hours or days you can easily become a guest conquering the slopes.

If you don't ski, come admire the mountains: the snow-capped peaks will not leave anyone indifferent. At the top you can sit in the restaurant, soak up the resort atmosphere and even test your resolve on the suspension bridge. Below - check in at the Rosa Khutor symbol of the town hall , get acquainted with the architecture and visit the “My Russia” museum .

Akhshtyrskoye Gorge

The road to Krasnaya Polyana lies through the Akhshtyrskoye Gorge - another place that will complement your collection of impressions. The gorge in the Mzymta valley is formed by high steep cliffs, in one of them there is the Akhshtyrskaya cave , which is uncomplicated and accessible to visit in winter. Nearby is Skypark , which became famous thanks to the longest suspension bridge in Russia. It offers an excellent view of the entire valley. Not only will it provide a lot of incredible sensations: in the park you can fly over the gorge - there is a zipline, megatrolls and bungee jumping.

Opposite the Akhshtyrskaya cave, on the other bank of the Mzymta there is a small but picturesque Dzykhrinskoe gorge . Its decoration is the waterfall , which gains strength in autumn, winter and spring. 7 km further there is another waterfall - Dragon's Mouth , also full of water in the autumn-spring period.

Yew-boxwood grove

Yew-boxwood grove is a forest of relict yews and boxwoods along the Khosta River. Fancy silhouettes of trees, hanging mosses and vines create a magical atmosphere here. Even in winter, when some of the plants are devoid of greenery, the forest makes a fantastic impression. The faults and high walls of the Khosta gorge add to the unusualness. The air here is amazing at any time of the year.

The yew-boxwood grove is one of the most famous and accessible natural areas in the vicinity of Sochi and Adler. There are three routes of different lengths for walking, the paths are marked and equipped. Since the forest is located within the boundaries of the Caucasus Nature Reserve , a fee must be paid at the entrance. A similar fairy-tale world awaits guests on the trail in the Psakho canyon , near the village of Galitsyno.

Dacha of Colonel A.V. Kvitko

Halfway to Sochi, in the area of the Primorsky state farm, stands the dacha of Colonel A.V. Kvitko. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century at the request of his wife. The mansion has features of Italian architecture and looks like a small stone castle. Today it is in an abandoned state, although after the October Revolution it changed its purpose more than once.

The dacha is open to those wishing to view the architecture, conduct a photo shoot and admire the sea views. The interiors have not been preserved, but paintings, mirrors and even a piano enliven the former atmosphere. A fascinating excursion is provided for visitors, and live music is played in the evening.

Abkhazia

The southeastern edge of Adler coincides with Russia's southern border on the Black Sea and runs along the Psou River. Behind it begins Abkhazia - a small Republic lying on the sea coast. Like Adler, in summer it becomes a popular beach destination. In the off-season, Abkhazia attracts with cultural and natural attractions, Abkhazian cuisine, warm weather, but there is no entertainment at this time.

The weather in Abkhazia in winter pleases with positive temperatures, sunny days, greenery, tangerines in December-January, although there are also rainy days. The trip is possible for any length of time, some hotels and cafes are open.

A frequent reason for traveling is the desire to see mountain lake Ritsa . In summer it delights with its turquoise expanse and green mountains. In winter it becomes dark and reflects the snow-covered mountains. On the way to Ritsa, be sure to check out the Blue Lake and the Yupshar Canyon .

In Gagra, the largest city closest to the Russian border, stop at a couple of local symbols - the Colonnade and the Gagripsh restaurant . In New Athos, include the New Athos Monastery and the New Athos Cave . There you can hardly miss the Seaside Park and the waterfall on the Psyrdzkha River . Sukhum is the capital of the Republic and the most remote city visited by tourists. It amazes with its architecture, the incredible juxtaposition of the new and the abandoned. Among the most famous places in the city are the Mahajirov embankment and the Botanical Garden .

Where to go in Adler in the evening: central parks and embankment

Are you thinking about where to go for a walk in the evening in Adler? The most correct answer to this question is the embankment. The epicenter of the tourist life of any city by the sea, Adler Embankment over the past 10 years has transformed from an unremarkable promenade into a cozy modern space for relaxation. The reconstruction was timed to coincide with a historical event - the 2014 Olympic Games.

Thanks to this, we have 1.5 kilometers of a beautiful walking area, from the bank of the Mzymta River to the territory of the Yuzhnoye Vzmorye sanatorium. There are modern shopping centers, beach clubs with swimming pools, installations, sculptures, recreation areas, restaurants and cafes. Pots with exotic plants, spectacular panoramas of the Caucasus Mountains, the Adler lighthouse, and of course sea waves crashing on the pebble shore are pleasing to the eye.

Evening is perhaps the best time for a leisurely walk along the embankment. At this time, the tables of street cafes light candles, luring visitors with musical melodies and the opportunity to spend the sunset by the sea. A little advice: choose a cafe with a panoramic terrace and an open view of the sea, for example the VinoGrad or Fregat restaurants.

Near the embankment there is Bestuzhev-Marlinsky Square, with a monument to the writer and the Decembrist, an old cannon, and a children’s playground - it’s convenient to come here in the evening with young travelers.

The most popular walking space on the embankment is located near the Mandarin shopping center. Music concerts, entertainment events and city festivals are often held here in the evenings; yachts and boats depart from here for sea voyages. There is no shortage of waterfront dining options, with a variety of cuisines and food concepts ranging from snack stalls to glamorous restaurants. You can dine to suit every taste and budget.

About 2 hectares of walking alleys, sports and children's playgrounds, attractions, recreation areas, an artificial pond in the center - everything is very clean and well-groomed. The park was reconstructed several years ago and is now a pleasant, modern space for the whole family to relax.

What to do in the park in the evening? Both children and adults can ride on the rides or race on the racetrack. View the evening Adler from the Ferris Wheel, or dance at the open-air disco. Of course, they didn’t forget about gourmets in the park; here you can have a street food snack or a full dinner. During the warm season, the park's alleys await guests until 22:00.
