Virtual Museum of the Great Patriotic War in the Bryansk region

The name of the city was determined by the famous forests surrounding it. Debry - Debryansk, and then just Bryansk. These forests performed considerable service during the Second World War. Partisan resistance existed and operated in them. Numerous sights of Bryansk have carried the memory of those incidents to our time. Even the structure of the city itself is remarkable. It’s as if there are no borders for the Bryansk forest. It divides the territory in confident stripes between the Sovetsky, Bezhitsky, Fokinsky, Volodarsky districts, making its way through the topographic center itself. It is accompanied by the Volga River flowing between overgrown ravines.

The Bryansk Automobile Plant is recognized as one of the outstanding symbols of the city. This enterprise is considered a leader in the industry of production of tractors with a carrying capacity of 14-40 tons and wheeled chassis for military and civilian equipment. Among the consumers of BAZ products are the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, crane builders, and oil and gas enterprises.

War memorials

As already mentioned, the sights of Bryansk and the region are mainly dedicated to partisan glory. In 2010, the city was awarded the corresponding official title. Therefore, the excursion should begin with a mandatory acquaintance with the most remarkable of them.

  • Partizan Square. In 1966, an outstanding memorial was opened, which amazes the imagination with its beauty and monumentality. The center of the exhibition is headed by a 17 m high pylon, the inscription on which reads “For our Soviet Motherland!” There are three sculptural groups around, which are also decorated with corresponding slogans. You can always see fresh flowers here. And on the day of the liberation of the city (September 17), almost every resident considers it their duty to come here to honor the memory of their valiant ancestors.

  • Partisan clearing. Not far from the city territory there is another monument to the valiant defenders. The memorial complex “Partisanskaya Polyana” perpetuated the memory with an obelisk 25 m high, at the foot of which the Eternal Flame does not go out. The place was chosen for a reason. It was here in 1941 that future members of the partisan movement took their oath of allegiance. The names of eight thousand of them are immortalized right there on the Memory Wall.

  • Forest sheds. The military sights of the city of Bryansk were supplemented by a monument erected in an area called “Forest Sheds”. Now children and adults come here to honor the memory of more than 17 thousand citizens buried in this very place. In the terrible years of 1941-1942, this land managed to become saturated with the blood of thousands and thousands of innocent victims during the bloody executions committed by the fascist invaders. The memory of these heroes is immortalized by a monument in the form of a pylon. There is a commemorative inscription on this pedestal.

  • Memorial at the mass grave. It is not entirely correct to include a photo with a description of this memorial as a landmark of Bryansk, since geographically it is located on the territory of the village of Belye Berega. In the village cemetery there are 17 graves of soldiers and partisans, next to which there is a monument to a grieving soldier.

Section 4. What is considered the highlight of the city?

The city of Bryansk shows its sights quite willingly, so sometimes it is quite difficult to navigate the question of what to see first and what can wait until your next visit.

One of the most important features of the city is the Park Museum named after. Tolstoy. You won't find a better place for family holidays and romantic walks! Here are collected wooden sculptures created by masters of Bryansk. These are wonderful images of characters from folk tales and epics. Festive events and attractions, shady alleys and fountains... in a word, in the Park-Museum. Tolstoy you can take a great walk and have a good rest.

Monuments

It is important to visit the sights of Bryansk not only with military themes, but also with historical and cultural ones. After all, they contain the whole essence of the existence and development of the city. Numerous monuments are mainly located in the Sovetsky and Bezhitsky regions. During the tour, you can walk from Lenin Square to the Embankment along the local Potemkin Stairs. This is a wide pedestrian part of the boulevard (about 12 meters) with steps, built in the 70s. On either side of it there are several architectural monuments.

  • Lenin Square. As in many other cities, Lenin Square is one of the centers of Bryansk. By tradition, this is where the administration building is located.

  • Monument to A. Tolstoy. On a granite pedestal, among tall trees, a bust of the famous writer Alexei Konstantinovich Tolstoy looks down upon passers-by sternly and thoughtfully. His life is closely connected with Bryansk, so the appearance of his figure here is completely justified.

  • Monument to Gagarin. Another star guest visited Bryansk. The first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin visited the city during the election campaign of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the USSR. In honor of this event, a large part of Sovetskaya Street was renamed, and on April 12 (Cosmonautics Day) a monument to the hero appeared near the Dynamo stadium.

  • Monument to F.I. Tyutchev. The Russian classic is one of the famous natives of the Bryansk region (Ovstug village). In 2003, during the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the poet’s birth, a grand opening of a monument dedicated to him remained on Teatralnaya Square. The pedestal on which the three-ton figure stands is decorated with bas-reliefs with views of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Munich and the village of Ovstyug itself. Fyodor Ivanovich lived and worked in these cities.

  • Monument to P.L. Proskurin. There is a monument here dedicated to another writer. Pyotr Lukich is a native of the Bryansk region. His granite bust on a pedestal can be seen in the city's Central Cemetery. In addition, in the Literary Museum there is a room dedicated to Proskurin.

  • Monument to the victims of Chernobyl. The impressive monument is designed in the form of a globe-shaped planet with a split, which is illuminated with orange light at night. The composition is complemented by damaged trees and evergreen spruces, as a symbol of the continuation of life.

  • Monument to a lathe. This simple but unusual monument is of great value to the residents of the city. After all, he immortalized the memory of the heroes of the invisible front of the war years. We are talking about representatives of blue-collar professions who worked without respite during the Great Patriotic War.

Section 7. Antiquities of the Great City

“Monuments of Bryansk” is a photo that should definitely be present in the family archive of an avid traveler. What to visit and film first?

Experienced tourists claim that the most interesting attraction of Bryansk is, of course, the Chashin complex, considered the founding site of this ancient city. During archaeological excavations, scientists were able to prove that the settlement located on this territory dates back to the 10th century. Two ramparts and a ditch, parts of a detinets and a settlement dating back to the pre-Mongol period - these are the objects that became the find of archaeologists.

A visit to this place allows you to touch the ancient history of Russia and try to understand how the life of our ancestors differed from modern life. The ancient Russian city is an extremely interesting object for everyone who is interested in history - both professionals and amateurs.

By the way, the local history museum is ready to demonstrate some of the found objects. Bryansk continues to take care of replenishing its collection today.

Architectural monuments

Many generations of city residents worked on the architectural design of the city. Not many examples of ancient buildings have survived. Most of them are concentrated in the Sovetsky district. In times of rapid industrial development and construction of new buildings, it is worth paying more attention to familiarizing and preserving architectural monuments. Having visited these attractions of Bryansk, you can safely and proudly show photos from your trip to your friends.

  • Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the territory of the magnificent A.K. Tolstoy Park, which is one of the favorite places of guests and residents of the city, there is an ancient temple. The years of its construction fell on 1827-1831. Since then, the monument has gone through many architectural and historical changes, but has retained its splendor to this day.

  • Holy Dormition Svensky Monastery. The year of foundation of the monastery is considered to be 1288. There is a mysterious legend about why Prince Roman Mikhailovich gave such an order. During its existence, the landmark survived the devastation of the Lithuanians, Crimean Tatars, disbandment during the Soviet era and the complete destruction of part of the buildings. Only in 1992 did this place return to the rule of the Orthodox Church and began to function as a monastery.

  • Spaso-Grobovskaya Church. Another religious architectural monument that has a very long history of existence. The year of its construction was 1904. After the church was closed in 1929, a club for factory workers was located here, and then a morgue. During this, the external and internal decoration was disfigured, and architectural changes were made. Only in 1985 did active restoration begin. In 2008, the first service was held in the completely renovated temple.

Now Bryansk has become a large and developed city. Tourists can find here not only many unique attractions, but also comfortable accommodation, delicious food, and just a fun time.

Section 6. Cultural heritage of the city

There are 19 Houses and Palaces of Culture in Bryansk. A large number of clubs provide an opportunity to improve the level of cultural development of everyone. There is evidence that more than 8.5 thousand people regularly visit such establishments. The largest is the Machine-Building Plant Club.

There are also many libraries in the city, and optimal conditions have been created for readers. Just imagine: 9 million copies (!) - this is the number of books that make up the library collection of the provincial Russian town of Bryansk.

Many tourists pay attention to the wonderful cultural and recreation parks. There are five of them here. Not only shady benches, but also numerous attractions invariably attract residents and guests of the city.

Art schools are a real source of pride for the local population. These institutions allow you to fully master the basics of creative activity and create lasting support for the cultural development of the younger generation

Section 8. What to see first in the city?

If a tourist has limited time when visiting Bryansk, first of all, old-timers of the city recommend visiting the embankment, Tolstoy Park, the Intercession Cathedral and the Bryansk Arsenal.

By the way, travelers will always find a lot of interesting things in souvenir shops. Skillfully created objects will allow you to preserve for a long time the memory of the ancient and at the same time very modern Bryansk.

Souvenirs are, of course, very important, but even more valuable is the unique atmosphere of the city, whose history goes back many centuries! Travelers who are interested in history and are aware of the laws of the historical process, when visiting famous places, have the opportunity to visually imagine the events of bygone years in the specific conditions of the real area.

Section 9. Relaxing in nature: Bryansk Forest Nature Reserve

Tourists visiting Bryansk, whose attractions are truly unique, as a rule, always find time to explore the Bryansk Forest Nature Reserve.

The flora of the Central Russian Plain is truly rich in diversity. Today, the reserve has created excellent conditions in which life is in full swing. For example, the European woodpecker is represented here by 10 species. There are also brown bears, white hares, lynxes, owls and wood grouse in the Bryansk Forest.

The territory of the reserve is covered with coniferous, broad-leaved and pine-oak forests. A rich variety of nature is open to vacationers. An amazingly positive mood and wonderful memories are guaranteed!

Relaxing in nature is, of course, very cool at any time of the year. Fresh air, the wonderful aura of a unique natural site, beautiful vegetation - all this creates excellent conditions for exploring the richness of our amazing planet.

Bryansk Regional Puppet Theater

Bryansk Regional Puppet Theater

Bryansk

The Bryansk Puppet Theater opened in early 1972. On January 4, the premiere took place - it was the production of “Dorotheus the Gosling” based on the play by Nina Gernet. Over the history of the theater, the troupe has staged more than 100 performances. The repertoire includes performances for both young spectators and adults. The Bryansk Puppet Theater participates in international festivals - these are “Slavic Theater Meetings”, “Belaya Vezha”, “Podolsk Lyalka”. In 2002, a museum was opened at the theater. Here they store the scenery of performances, talk about the history of the theater and conduct classes for children.

Section 11. Interesting facts about Bryansk

This is truly a city that can surprise. Here you can try to find the ghost station. Many volunteers really tried to do this. However, no one has yet managed to find the mentioned station, despite the fact that its location is indicated on modern maps of the city. What's the matter? It turns out that now only the foundation and old sleepers remain of this station.

There is also a memorial in Bryansk, little known to the general public, erected in honor of the partisans of the last terrible war. It is located in Šibenz. This is a very picturesque place. It is a pity that tourists and even many local residents of Bryansk do not know about this object.

"Corner of partisan life"

There are unusual objects in the “Partisan Glade” memorial: reconstructions of military dugouts and dugouts, in one of the dugouts there is a “Corner of Partisan Life”. In a small log room in the ground you can see the bunks on which the partisans slept. In summer they are covered with mown grass, and in winter with hay. There is a roughly hewn wooden table and similar benches. The room is heated by a potbelly stove made from an old metal barrel, and illuminated by a lantern that used to be called a “bat” - essentially a portable kerosene lamp. The roof slopes of the dugout are supported by log pillars; there is no ceiling. There are portraits on the end wall.

Where to go with a child in Bryansk

It is also worth taking children on a trip around the city of Bryansk. There are many amazing amusement parks here. The city is equipped with many playgrounds. Bryansk has a small zoo, a toy factory, a dolphinarium and an aquarium.

A visit to these places will certainly make a lasting impression on your child:

  • Mini zoo. In Bryansk, next to the Razdolye complex, there is a small zoo. Kids will be delighted with small rabbits, ducks, fairly large wild boars, goats and other interesting animals.
  • Karachevskaya toy factory. Here is an amazing opportunity to take part in the creation of magical New Year's toys. The factory operates from September to December.

  • The Dolphinarium and Oceanarium will introduce children to the inhabitants of the seas and oceans. Delightful performances of killer whales, fur seals and peace-loving dolphins will not leave kids without vivid impressions. In the aquarium, children will learn a lot about the life of predators, exotic and poisonous sea inhabitants.
