Its history is rich and diverse, which is reflected in the sights of the region. Belgorod was the first to receive the title “City of Military Glory”.

Cathedral Square

The main square of the Belgorod region. All significant events of the city are celebrated here, military parades, concerts are held, and the main New Year tree is installed. Other memorable places, theatre, cafes and restaurants are within walking distance. A non-standard design is laid out on the square made of granite tiles - this is a kind of map of the city: in the center there is a huge circle, and along the perimeter there are small squares with the coats of arms of the regional centers of the region.

Transfiguration Cathedral

The temple is painted sky blue. It is the architectural pride of the city and the main Orthodox church of the region. The wooden cathedral was rebuilt and rebuilt several times. Fires were not uncommon at that time, and the building was completely burned out. At the beginning of the last century, a stone cathedral was built using donations from parishioners.

Temple of the Archangel Gabriel

Assumption-Nicholas Cathedral

The only ancient stone temple that has survived to this day in the Belgorod region. Peter I allocated money for its construction. The image of the cathedral is typical of Moscow architecture: an asymmetrical layout, amazing frescoes on the walls. During the Soviet era, the church was abandoned, the domes were dismantled, and the bell tower was destroyed. Then the cathedral was used as a prison and prisoners were executed.

20 years later a bakery was located here. Only in the 90s. the cathedral was recognized as a unique monument and returned to the church.

Church of the Intercession

During Soviet times, the church was converted into a bakery. After the war, a prison was located here. Today the temple has been restored and welcomes parishioners.

Smolensky Cathedral

This temple is more than 300 years old. The modern look is vaguely reminiscent of the original version. The revolutionaries converted it into a warehouse; during the Second World War it came under artillery fire many times. After the war, a decision was made to demolish the temple. But he survived. After the restoration, church services were resumed.

Central Park named after V. Lenin

This is a popular place for recreation and walking among locals and tourists at any time of the year. The park is located in the city center, so it is convenient to get here. Easter Fountain

It is located on the site of a natural spring, the water from which previously flowed to the convent of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Historical features have been preserved here and modern elements have been added - movable lighting and modern hydraulic structures.

Kholkovsky Monastery

In the village of Kholki, an underground monastery was carved out of a chalk hill, the origin of which still remains a mystery. About 150 years before the collapse of the caves, monks lived in them. At the end of the last century, the Kholkovsky Monastery was restored and restored. The monks reoccupied the caves, and church services began to be held in the temple underground. I recommend going to Kholki on a weekend.

Bekaryukovsky pine forest

In the village of Malomikhailovka near Belgorod there grows a unique forest of rare chalk pines. The place is very picturesque. Giants 70–100 m high cover the steep chalk mountains above the Nezhegoli River valley. The forest is named after the former owner, landowner Z. Bekaryukov, who preserved this valuable land for descendants.
