Jur-Jur. Don't forget your swimsuits

The Jur-Jur waterfall is in no way inferior in beauty to the lighthouse temple and the Crimean nature reserve. The waterfall is located within the boundaries of the village of Generalskoye, by car it takes about 45 minutes from Alushta along a mountain serpentine road of 32 km. You gradually ascend to a height of 468 meters into the Hap Phap Gorge. In the village of Generalskoye you can leave your car in the parking lot and continue on foot to Dzhur-Dzhur. The second option is to rent a UAZ from the locals for about 1,500 rubles, which drives through the off-road mountains.

We recommend that travelers in good physical condition walk 1 km to the waterfall. Along the way, you will admire the wide trunks of beech trees, meet hornbeams, dogwoods, oaks, and see wooden sculptures, bridges, and stairs that were featured in popular Soviet films.

A pleasant reward for a tired traveler will be swimming in the “murmuring waters” of Jur-Jur. The water temperature is about 11°C. The water flow is very strong, so be careful when going under the waterfall. By the way, if you have time, you can walk further from Jur-Jura along the gorge and reach beautiful cascades that form comfortable baths for swimming. Curious tourists, who are not satisfied with the waterfall and cascades themselves, go even further - to the Jur-Jur cave. The depth of the cave is 22 m, the length is 770 meters.

The closest way to get to the waterfall is from the village of Malorechenskoye. You can stay for a holiday in one of the hotels by booking a room from 450 ₽ per day.

Mount Demerdzhi

Mount Demerdzhi in the village of Luchistoye, not far from Alushta, is part of the Crimean Mountains range. Translated, its name means “blacksmith,” which is associated with an ancient legend that local guides like to tell.

Below, at the foot of Mount Demerdzhi, there are the ruins of the ancient Funa fortress - the route begins from there. You can climb the mountain on foot or use the services of the equestrian club located below. From the top of the mountain there is a beautiful view of Alushta.

Guardian of the Empire

“Guardian of the Empire” is the name of an unusual scientific and entertainment center with its own mini-hotel in Alushta. With its futuristic design, the place resembles a spaceship like the one seen in Star Wars. The corridors are equipped with a variety of monitors and displays, simulators and exercise equipment that temporarily transport visitors into outer space. In “Guardian of the Empire” you can see real spacesuits and equipment that Russian cosmonauts had to work with, samples of meteorite rock and soil from other planets. There are also exhibits invented by the creators of science fiction films about space flights. For everyone, they conduct fascinating excursions using interactive activities, after which you can go to the bar and try the food that astronauts eat.

Yukhari-Jami Mosque

In the central part of Alushta on Fortress Hill there is the Yukhary-Jami Mosque. Its tall and thin stone minaret with a pointed roof is clearly visible from almost anywhere in the city. The religious building of Muslims was built in the middle of the 19th century. The name Yukhary-Jami is translated from the Tatar language as “upper mosque”. The building itself is small. Once upon a time there was a fountain next to it.

Since the 30s. In the 20th century, the mosque was closed and the building was used for various purposes that had nothing to do with religion. During this time, the interior decoration was irretrievably lost, the paintings and mosaics on the floors and walls disappeared. The stained glass windows that decorated the windows on the second floor are only partially preserved.

The revival of this Alushta landmark began in 1994, when it was returned to Crimean Muslims. Currently, restoration work is ongoing here and religious services are being held here.

Museum of Disasters on the Waters

Website: water-disasters-museum.ru

In the village of Malorechenskoye, on the edge of the cape, there is the famous lighthouse temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. It has the shape of a ship, the bow of which faces the sea.

Under the temple there is an unusual museum, the exhibition of which is dedicated to the most famous tragic incidents on the water, dead sailors and sunken ships. The interior and lighting of its halls are designed in such a way that it feels as if you yourself are under water. The museum is included in the memorial complex “In memory of those killed on the waters.” This museum is unique in its kind - there are no others like it in our country.

Cave MAN

On the northwestern slope of Mount Demerdzhi there is also the famous MAN cave, which received its name in honor of the Small Academy of Sciences, where the schoolchildren who discovered this unique natural object studied.

The entrance to the cave is hidden behind rock ledges - which is why it was unknown for many years. Inside there are two floors: the upper, main hall, and the lower - a grotto, which can be reached through a long deep well, which requires special equipment.

In the lower hall you can see the bones of ancient animals, as well as stalactites and stalagmites and a beautiful underground lake. Traces of rock paintings left by primitive people have also been preserved in this cave.

Valley of Ghosts

Demerdzhi is one of the must-see places for many tourists - the famous Valley of Ghosts is located here. These are dozens of huge stone figures, elongated in shape, to which the wind has given bizarre shapes over millions of years. Most of the figures have their own “names” - “Giant”, “Finger”.

Local residents advise visiting the Valley of Ghosts early in the morning, at dawn, when the pillars cast mysterious shadows: they say that the impression will be especially strong.

Natalia Varley's stone

Interesting: the surroundings of Mount Demerdzhi became famous for the fact that many scenes of the film “Prisoner of the Caucasus” were filmed here. Thus, tourists can see Nikulin’s famous nut, from which the hero threw nuts at Shurik. The tree is marked with a corresponding sign.

Here is also the stone on which Nina, the heroine of Natalia Varley, danced.

18. Ai-Yori

The rocky mountain Ai-Yori is part of the Babugan mountain range. Its height is 572 meters. During the Great Patriotic War, a local partisan detachment was based here, as the installed obelisks remind.

Mount Ai-Yori has gained popularity not only because of the stunning views from its top, but mostly because of the source with tasty and healing water. The natural spring bears the same name - Ai-Yori (St. George). In ancient times, there was a chapel over the source, consecrated in honor of St. George, and the water flowed directly from under the altar. Unfortunately, no buildings have survived here to our time. Spring water has a low degree of mineralization and contains various elements (zinc, iron, silver, fluorine, etc.).

A font was equipped and a bathhouse was built near the source. There are also gazebos with tables, benches and barbecues for those who want to relax in nature.

But the most beautiful and interesting thing is hidden in the courtyard - 12 lions lined up, a fountain with a little mermaid, old trees: an olive tree is more than 600 years old, an oak tree - 200 years old. Lions are a unique symbol of this palace - they guard any entrance on both sides.
